AIBU to be a bit peed off about the new all inclusive drinking rule in Spain?

Don’t want to come across a raging alcoholic but we’ve booked an all inclusive holiday (costing about £7.5k) for me DH and 4 DC and am peed off to see you can now only have 3 alcoholic drinks with lunch and three with dinner. I know six seems a lot but it’s more about being told when you can have them and how many you can have at a given time. We’ve been to this place before (Majorca) and used to enjoy lazy afternoons sipping a beer or three by the pool. Doesn’t seem like ‘all inclusive’ anymore and we’re paying thousands for the bloody thing!

Sounds fine. 6 drinks is ample

I can honestly say I've only ever seen pints and halves at any AL I've been to.

Nobody needs more than 6 alcoholic drinks in a day ffs, good on them, drunks ruin holidays for others with their antics.

Most people who’d had 6 pints over a 12 hour period would probably be not far over the drink drive limit, they certainly wouldn’t be drunk, I doubt you’d even be able to tell they’d been drinking.

brookstar · 29/04/2022 19:43

Isin’t that just being a good parents (assuming the one drinking doesn’t get noticeable drunk) rather than ’boring’?
Me and DH have just had a couple of glasses of wine with our tea. DS is at the table with us..... does that make us bad parents?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/04/2022 19:14

Grown adults can decide how much they want to drink. They don't need telling. Exceptions being alcoholics.

I don’t care, drunk people are fucking obnoxious, tired of them always ruining everything.

passport123 · 29/04/2022 19:46

This is why I avoid all-inclusive........anyone who can drink that much in a day without falling over, drinks too much full stop.

Fizbosshoes · 29/04/2022 19:49

A small percentage of MN seem to think having one or 2 drinks = getting completely trollied.

The OP doesnt say they want to have more than 6 drinks in one go, they want to choose when to have the drinks they have paid for within the AI price and not be limited to only drinking at lunchtime or dinner time.

Frogslegsbigfeet · 29/04/2022 19:55

I can’t get past people writing “free drinks” surely no one is that stupid to think it’s literally free? Do these people book bed and breakfast and then go on about the free breakfast? Or that they get to sleep for free in the bed in the room? Or that there as a free shower in their room? That they had a free sea view! I assume they do.

I don’t understand why people who cannot comprehend that like the room or the breakfast the drinks are paid for in advance, are actually commenting, there is nothing “free” if you can’t grasp the concept of paying for drinks, or breakfast or even a sea view up front why comment?

and I’m fairly sure if they actually thought hotels were giving out limitless free drinks they would be first in thr queue.😂

boonducks · 29/04/2022 19:58

I agree, it's the time rather than the quantity.
I'm just back from an AI holiday and actually drank nothing during the day and we ate out at night, but I did enjoy a beer or cocktail in the evening.

I don't usually do AI but it suited me this time and I like the access to coffee, soft drinks, ice creams all day for very little extra cost over B&B.

wizzler · 29/04/2022 20:00

Was in an AI hotel in Majorca in early April. Didn't know this rule till we got there but then we read the small print and realised it had been mentioned.

It was annoying that we would have had to pay for a beer by the pool, but we found that the glasses of wine we had at dinner were pretty large and so 3 was more than enough.

Felt sorry for the staff to be honest who on a daily basis had to deal with customers complaining when there is nothing they can do.

Didn't ruin the holiday for us, just needed to get our heads around it !

Viviennemary · 29/04/2022 20:04

I agree with this. Six alcoholic drinks a day is far too much in the first place. One or two should be quite sufficient. IMHO. It is not advisable to consume that amount of alcohol. Its way over the recommended amount.

RampantIvy · 29/04/2022 20:06

I think, for those who have already paid for an all inclusive holiday this is unfair. For those going to book a holiday where there are 3 complementary drinks at lunch and 3 complementary drinks for dinner then that is fine because the customer knows what they are going to get.

Yipee189 · 29/04/2022 20:08

🤣

edwinbear · 29/04/2022 20:09

@Kennykenkencat we too went 1/2 board first time and couldn't believe the prices! Hence AI was the only way we would go for subsequent trips. I'd forgotten about the make up sliding down your face thing, the minute you stepped out of an air conned room, that made me chuckle, so thank you Grin

Wrong.

LunaTheCat · 29/04/2022 20:18

This is why I would never go on an AI holiday - I am no prude and enjoy wine but I don’t want to pay for a whole lot people getting completely shit-faced for the day!

carefullycourageous · 29/04/2022 20:18

Sounds like William Hague boasting about drinking 14 pints!

Abraxan · 29/04/2022 20:23

I doubt someone having 6 drinks over the course of about 10 hours will be drunk generally, especially based on your average Spanish island AI type hotel measures. One 'drink' will be about half a pint or a small glass of wine, not a normal UK pub type measure. The spirits are generally weaker or even watered down. Not in all AI, but much more likely in a 3 star AI in these kind of resort areas.

And whilst 6 drinks per a day would be a lot on a normal work day at home, 6 small drinks on a pool day in the sun, on an annual holiday is really not unusual. And it certainly isn't restricted to British holiday makers either!

Myhamsteratemyjammydoger · 29/04/2022 16:27

So rather than leaving it to the OP to drip feed. The Balearic Islands government announced new laws in 2020, a regional in a bid to clamp down on public drunkenness and clean up the image of resorts, that have have been affected recently by uncivil behaviour, most of this type of behaviour is directly related to alcohol abuse in certain tourist areas of Majorca and Ibiza.

This is an attempt to promote the destination, to provide it with better quality through both public and private sector investments, and position it in an increasingly competitive and global market.

I suggest you should have done your own research before traveling over again.

Totally agree. I was aware of this some time ago & I think it's a good thing. It's horrible to see the level of drinking that goes on in these places & it puts me off ever going there. 6 drinks a day is LOADS.

Mrsmch123 · 29/04/2022 20:30

@WildFlowerBees just because you like other food option doesn't mean others do. I go to Spain and never eat "Spanish food".
@AProperStinging what's wrong with not leaving the resort? I generally go AI and don't leave....well except maybe to go to McDonals/Burger King🤷🏻‍♀️

mumda · 29/04/2022 17:07

Is it just me who cries at how much people spend on holidays?

I should think so.
Why would you care what other people spend on their holidays, never mind get upset by it.
Or are you suggesting that rather than somebody spend £5000 on a holiday they should give the money to charity?

DontPickTheFlowers · 29/04/2022 20:31

You’re taking 4 kids and planned to spend the afternoon drinking?!

Sounds awful on so many levels.

I expect they’ve limited the drinks because they’re fed up of dealing with the aftermath.

Also £7.5k for 6 people? 😮
