AIBU to be a bit peed off about the new all inclusive drinking rule in Spain?

Don’t want to come across a raging alcoholic but we’ve booked an all inclusive holiday (costing about £7.5k) for me DH and 4 DC and am peed off to see you can now only have 3 alcoholic drinks with lunch and three with dinner. I know six seems a lot but it’s more about being told when you can have them and how many you can have at a given time. We’ve been to this place before (Majorca) and used to enjoy lazy afternoons sipping a beer or three by the pool. Doesn’t seem like ‘all inclusive’ anymore and we’re paying thousands for the bloody thing!

I'd be amazed if I could drink 6 drinks. If it helps prevent boozed up stereotypical brits... Great idea

Tedious 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Hawkins001 · 29/04/2022 20:44

I understand your perspectives op, how about a cup of tea instead ?

One can assume that germs, frens, dutc, itals are excluded, it's only 'brits', a term I personally find offensive but I suppose only certain other nationalities are allowed to object to their abbreviation, are included.

CharityShopChic · 29/04/2022 20:49

We are another family going to Menorca all-inclusive this summer. We generally don't do AI holidays, but after two shitty years of cancelled plans because of Covid I'm looking forward to it.

Menorca isn't a "party island" with clubbing and drunken vomiting in the streets (I hope) so hopefully this won't affect us. I am not interested in getting pissed either.

'Brits' is not offensive, come on. Neither is Aussies.

I am a Brit and I use the term Brits. The bloody tabloids are always wanging on about Brits!

SarahSissions · 29/04/2022 21:03

It’s outrageous for people who have already paid. If I pay for all inclusive expect free rein, it would be like going to Pizza Hut for the buffet and being told you can only have 2slices of pizza

Pinkycloud · 29/04/2022 21:06

I’m OP. Am amazed (stupidly) by the judgment on my post. The issue was not my drinking capacity, the amount I spend on holidays, the fact I’ve chosen (shock, horror) an AI holiday. To those that get this - thank you.

Did I do my research? No, I employed the services of a travel agent to do that for me. Did she tell me of these restrictions at the time of booking? Absolutely not. I continue to wait and see what my rights are.

Having seen some appalling behaviour in those places, I think it is really good idea. Too bad that idiots spoil it for other people, but also horrific that people behave the way that lead to this being brought in.

That's great @Waxonwaxoff0 if you want to eat mass produced over processed rubbish and pay 7.5k for the privilege. It's not snobby to not want to do that it's not cheap but the food certainly is.

Why are some people so RUDE about other people's choice of holiday? We've been all inclusive once or twice - last time pre-pandemic was Crete and it certainly wasn't cheap food. Every lunch/dinner they had chefs cooking fresh fish, chicken, beef, a whole "massive salad" cart which MN loves so much, traditional Greek food, so much choice. It was brilliant.

RampantIvy · 29/04/2022 21:20

I go to Spain and never eat "Spanish food".

Do you eat proper Spanish food @Mrsmch123?

CharityShopChic · 29/04/2022 21:21

Also agree with what everyone who has actually been on AI holidays are saying about the drinks. The measures are small. The ABV is week. Most people who go to the sort of resort @Waxonwaxoff0 is talking about and the place we're going are not there for the sole purpose of getting pissed. People who want to get pissed are booking the cheapest 2* self catering accommodation in Magaluf or San Antonio and going on bar crawls every night. They're not booking an expensive all inclusive.

Wouldn't it be nice if people restricted themselves to commenting on things they actually had experience of, rather than making assumptions about what they think all inclusive holidays are like?

And @Waxonwaxoff0 if you'e in Punta Prima at the beginning of July I'll give you the secret MN wink.

I suspect they'll have terms you accepted somewhere that say All-Inclusive offering differs from hotel to hotel.

I work in travel and quite honestly if you'd come to me and said 'we'd like to book this hotel that we've been to before for these dates' it wouldn't occur to me to check that you knew the details of the hotel.

This has been in place since 2020 and while there has been a pandemic, Majorca has been open for holidays for at least parts of each year. We went in 2020 and 2021. It's 'old news' for the travel industry, long forgotten in the chaos Covid caused, and has only come back to light now some Daily Mail readers have ventured to Maga.

I'm so ashamed. And not even drunk. WEAK WEAK.

the80sweregreat · 29/04/2022 21:28

The food at our AI hotel was lovely. Lots of fresh meat and salads and fruit. You could have treated it as a health farm to be honest it was easy to eat very Healthily and lots of Spanish food too.

alexdgr8 · 29/04/2022 21:28

seems perfectly reasonable to me.

2Rebecca · 29/04/2022 16:29

I think it's a good thing. AI encourages excess drinking just because it is free

I've been on a fair few AI holidays and I struggle to recall seeing anyone drunk.

People are more likely to spread it out during the day in my experience.

Dnaltocs · 29/04/2022 21:32

Perhaps this rule will encourage some to look at how much they are drinking. 6 a day seems a lot to me but as OP says it’s not the amount it’s being dictated to. Is that about a bottle and a half per day and is it single or double spirits?

I’d not be going if the booze police are on duty.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/04/2022 21:34

carefullycourageous · 29/04/2022 20:18

I can drink more than 6 drinks over the course of a day without getting drunk.

Sounds like William Hague boasting about drinking 14 pints!

Er, no. 6 drinks over an approximately 10 hour period wouldn't get most people drunk.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/04/2022 21:36

DontPickTheFlowers · 29/04/2022 20:31

You’re taking 4 kids and planned to spend the afternoon drinking?!

Sounds awful on so many levels.

I expect they’ve limited the drinks because they’re fed up of dealing with the aftermath.

Also £7.5k for 6 people? 😮

Oh get a grip will you. I'm sure they're not planning on getting shitfaced, but most people drink on holiday.

Absolutely! Over a glass of 🍷😉

6 a day is a lot if you're doing it EVERY day all the time. Not as a one off on a week's holiday. I do not drink at all during the week, but I drink more than usual on holiday.

Or just one of the 99.9% of Spanish Hotels that aren't remotely affected by this?

They think they're superior because they go self catering and have more "meaningful" cultural holidays. As a single parent, I want a bit of bloody relaxation and somewhere that will keep DS entertained! The cultural holidays can wait.
