AIBU to be a bit peed off about the new all inclusive drinking rule in Spain?

Don’t want to come across a raging alcoholic but we’ve booked an all inclusive holiday (costing about £7.5k) for me DH and 4 DC and am peed off to see you can now only have 3 alcoholic drinks with lunch and three with dinner. I know six seems a lot but it’s more about being told when you can have them and how many you can have at a given time. We’ve been to this place before (Majorca) and used to enjoy lazy afternoons sipping a beer or three by the pool. Doesn’t seem like ‘all inclusive’ anymore and we’re paying thousands for the bloody thing!

It’s not the whole of the islands though, it’s ; Magalluf, El Arenal, Playa de Palma in Mallorca and Sant Antoni in Ibiza.

I am shocked at how much people drink !

‘a couple with lunch , a couple by the pool, a few before dinner, and then some more with dinner ‘..!!!

It's a good job it's alcohol they're limiting and no exclamation marks 👀😂

Oblomov22 · 29/04/2022 18:44

Blimey this really has bought out the worst. AI generally, eating shit for £7.5k, ignoring kids as you get pissed while they drown in the pool. Hmm

Had tonnes of AI fabulous holidays thanks!

I can’t find anything In the Spanish news. Only something issued by Thomas cook. Just asked a friend that works for an all inclusive in baleares

Are you checking back to 2020 when the rule was brought in?

UglyModernWindows · 29/04/2022 18:46

mumda · 29/04/2022 17:07

Is it just me who cries at how much people spend on holidays?

I’m not shocked at the cost at all but more at how much people drink and yet claim they are not “big drinkers”.

No. This is a new rule as per Thomas cook. My friend just replied that she’s not aware about it (she works for a chain of hotels). Her friend who works for another chain is not aware about it.

the only news right now is from tc. Nothing in the Spanish media.

6 drinks is ridiculously low, and I say that as someone who drinks very little. The Australians have the right idea, in a bid to reduce violence at the Bathurst 1000, they limit race fans to 9 litres of beer or 4 litres of wine per person per 24 hours. If you stick to beer below 3.5% you can take 50% more, so 54 litres for the 4 day event!

Stravaig · 29/04/2022 18:51

Just think for a moment about what it takes for new legislation to be introduced. Hordes of drunken tourists must have made life absolutely miserable for local residents over an extended period of time for this to happen. This is international recognition of our notorious inability to drink in moderation or behave in a civilised way. So proud.

I cannot believe people are whining instead of being mortified that new laws were required to curb their excess consumption and loutish behaviour.

I am the boring type and always insisted that either myself or Husband was stone cold sober when we had our children, why don't you take it in turns, that way one can have 6 at lunch and one have 6 at dinner.

Isin’t that just being a good parents (assuming the one drinking doesn’t get noticeable drunk) rather than ’boring’?

Even worse with so many kids in tow. I'm all for relaxing and having a good time, but 6 alcoholic drinks per day seems alot to me.

Well ok but the BBC reported it in January 2020

WeCouldBeSpearows · 29/04/2022 18:56

Nothing in the Spanish media

It's in the Majorca Daily Bulletin.

EasterIssland · 29/04/2022 18:58

If you read it it’s about pubs and not hotels
from your link
Organised pub crawls can no longer be advertised or held in Playa de Palma, Magaluf or Ibiza's West End.
The law also bans happy hours and says party boats can no longer advertise in the three areas or pick up or drop off tourists there.
Alcohol vending machines, free bars and adverts for alcoholic drinks are also forbidden, while authorities say shops selling alcohol must close from 21:30 to 08:00 (20:30 to 07:00 GMT).

Mydpisgrumpierthanyours · 29/04/2022 18:58

What are they doing about local bars etc then? All I can see is it not being the hotels problem anymore but spilling out everywhere else.

EasterIssland · 29/04/2022 18:58

WeCouldBeSpearows · 29/04/2022 18:56

This is not local / Spanish media. It’s a media for British. I meant Spanish media / journalist

2Rebecca · 29/04/2022 16:29

I think it's a good thing. AI encourages excess drinking just because it is free

It’s not ‘free’ - it’s what you have paid for when you book ALL INCLUSIVE!

whoruntheworldgirls · 29/04/2022 19:04

WeCouldBeSpearows · 29/04/2022 16:29

Is this all resorts in spain?

No, just the Balearic Islands

And it's only certain area on these islands I believe so not the whole island

worraliberty · 29/04/2022 19:06

@EasterIssland ahh now that makes much more sense about the bar crawls/party boats etc as they're generally what causes the falling down drunk/fighting behaviour.

Young people who go on those holidays very rarely go all inclusive anyway.

That's great @Waxonwaxoff0 if you want to eat mass produced over processed rubbish and pay 7.5k for the privilege. It's not snobby to not want to do that it's not cheap but the food certainly is.

I've never paid £7.5k for a holiday in my life. We are a one adult one child family. We are going AI soon and it cost me £1100.

It's not snobby to not want to do that. It IS snobby to judge others who DO want to do that and act like you're superior.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/04/2022 19:14

YouAreNotBatman · 29/04/2022 18:40

YABU, very U.

Anything that try and get people to drink less is always fantastic!

Grown adults can decide how much they want to drink. They don't need telling. Exceptions being alcoholics.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/04/2022 19:15

YouAreNotBatman · 29/04/2022 18:52

So if I have an alcoholic drink while in charge of my child I'm not a good parent? Get a grip.

I hate AI it's usually very poor quality food watered down alcohol and kills small local businesses around the AI hotels.
