To update about The Family Sex Show

There are active two threads on this in Feminism but I feel I just have to update here for traffic. Although protests appear to have, for now, stopped the theatre production going ahead, new and highly disturbing material has today appeared on their webpage, clearly aimed at children. It (cheerily and breezily) suggests, among other things, that children search for images of masturbating animals on the internet and then draw what they see. I am not going to Google that term, I really don't want that in my history, but first, can you imagine what children will be exposed to if they search that, and second, this is pure and simple grooming of children into being abused. Masturbating animals? What larks! Lets have an arts and crafts session about it! Next steps: Masturbating with Uncle Jim? Why not? Masturbating Uncle Jim? Of course!

I have now made a complaint to CEOP. Others may wish to as well.

Someone in the team who have created this show seems to know what they're doing. There may well be various 'useful idiots' or naive people being used as cover, but I can't see how anyone can come out with so many problematic phrases, instructions and statements - and keep going even when called out by people knowledgeable about safeguarding - and not be doing it on purpose.

Some people enjoy outrage, also, of course. Enjoy pushing the envelope, provoking shock, 'queering boundaries' and subverting norms. All fine when it's consensual adults involved. Not so much when we're talking about children.

And for what it's worth, the show is advertised for 'all ages', with a recommendation of 5, and a ticket price for babies held on laps.

Apologies if it's already been posted, but I think this piece in The Critic (actually linked from the Guardian article) is an excellent explanation of the problems with this show:

thecritic.co.uk/why-are-we-allowing-the-family-sex-show/

There's another piece in The Critic here, DisappearingGirl, that asks why Arts Council England support for an LGB Alliance documentary “celebrating gay lives and marking 70 years since Her Majesty The Queen ascended the throne” has been withdrawn, yet this appalling breach of child protection continues to be supported by Arts Council England: https://thecritic.co.uk/why-is-the-lgb-alliance-film-having-its-funding-cut/.

Artichokeleaves · 21/04/2022 12:28

Quite. Down with homosexuality and homosexuals being allowed a sexual orientation, and up with queering childhood and smashing safeguarding.

Yay 2022.

theDudesmummy · 21/04/2022 12:36

Update, I just had a long phone call with a social worker from CEOP. They have had nine reports to them including mine. They are passing it up through their channels but her immediate advice is for people to report to Somerset and Avon police, as I have done already, and also to the Internet Watch Foundation, which I will do now. Also to your local police on 101.

The basic first principle of safeguarding is that the safety of children is everyone's business. Even if you are not affected by this directly, you can report it as something which is putting children at risk, which I can assure you it is. Everyone who says or thinks "this should be reported to the police and the authorities", please do it.

@theDudesmummy

Has anyone prepared a template or guide to exactly what to put into a complaint to the various organisations/charities?

I'm not good at words just now.

KittenKong · 21/04/2022 08:45

That creature in dunblane - he was known to have an unhealthy interest in children. ‘Nothing could be done’ to keep children safe from him.

why is child safety so lacking? We can see this for what it is.

Thomas Hamilton had friends in high places - there have been allegations about a paedophile ring operating from the local military school at Dunblane dating back decades: www.sundaypost.com/fp/the-school-failed-me-then-and-it-is-failing-me-now-they-cannot-keep-their-terrible-secrets-forever/

theDudesmummy · 21/04/2022 14:09

I mentioned that the show has now cancelled performances because of complaints about inappropriate material for the age group it claimed to be aimed at, but that a clearly child-aimed website continues to offer material which includes grooming of children for sexual abuse. I mentioned the animal masturbation "drawing" activity which has now been taken down, and the encouragement to draw and model genitalia, including their own, presumably in the presence of adults.

I also mentioned the "podcast" stuff on Twitter and provided some links. I told the social worker that of course I know Twitter etc cannot be policed for content inappropriate for children, that is the job of parents and carers, but that this is an organisation which is openly specifically pitching its material at children (and their groomers), and is also at least partially publically fnded.

Well done, OP. Some women are afraid to report this to police for fear of having a non-crime hate incident added to their record.

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/04/2022 14:21

Well done @theDudesmummy

theDudesmummy · 21/04/2022 15:12

My job has involved on multiple occasions making reports of suspected crimes or child abuse to the police or Social Services, so it is of no concern to me to have this on the police records.

OP posts:
theDudesmummy · 21/04/2022 15:13

But you can report anonymously too, if people wish too.

You are brilliant - thank you!

HairyMuttttt · 21/04/2022 16:47

The critic article is spot on

PonyPatter44 · 21/04/2022 16:50

I've had a response from CEOP as well, along the same lines as theDudesmummy has said. I've also reported to my local police, and if anyone wants to try and nick me for hate crime, they are welcome to try. I also do a lot of reporting to Social Services as part of my job, so not exactly worried about it.

theDudesmummy · 21/04/2022 17:07

Thanks @PonyPatter44

I was watching a video on YouTube that said the show has received National Lottery funding. I don't know if this is true.

theDudesmummy · 21/04/2022 17:38

ThisEgg appears to have had National Lottery funding. I have contacted both the National Lottery and the Arts Council to ask them if they are still supporting this.

Also the Theatre Royal in Bath which still has TFSS up on their website as a forthcoming attraction (very sickeningly indeed, right on the page alongside things like We're Going on a Bear Hunt, and Five Children and It).

theDudesmummy · 21/04/2022 17:48

Please note that in all my communications of my admittedly "extremist" stance of being 100% against child sexual abuse, to a number of organisations, the only "threat" I have made is to make reports to further organisations. I have not been frothing at the mouth, just making a report of child sexual abuse and grooming to the authorities as I have done many times in my job. (Just for the benefit of the press who have unquestioningly parroted TFSS line of what the objectors have been doing and how).

@theDudesmummy You're doing a great job. Thank you. We need people like you.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 21/04/2022 20:01

Why are people who object to this harmful filth regarded as extremists? Is this what the world has come to?

mrshoho · 21/04/2022 20:01

Great work @theDudesmummy

oakleaffy · 21/04/2022 21:41

That Tweet by ''the Egg'' asking if it ''Can make that part of you smile''
It is out and out child sexual grooming, dressed up in Unicorns and rainbows.

A young man was incredibly offensive to me on social media once, arrogant and full of himself turned out he was a dangerous {Now jailed} paedophile.
He worked making middle class children bespoke toys.

They walk amongst us.

theDudesmummy · 21/04/2022 21:51

I have actually reported that specific tweet to Twitter. I have worked in child protection and CSA roles for 30 years and this has sickened me more than almost anything. It is the public and outspoken nature of it.

OP posts:
theDudesmummy · 21/04/2022 22:01

Have also now asked the Guardian wtf they are doing. Don't expect any useful response.
