There are active two threads on this in Feminism but I feel I just have to update here for traffic. Although protests appear to have, for now, stopped the theatre production going ahead, new and highly disturbing material has today appeared on their webpage, clearly aimed at children. It (cheerily and breezily) suggests, among other things, that children search for images of masturbating animals on the internet and then draw what they see. I am not going to Google that term, I really don't want that in my history, but first, can you imagine what children will be exposed to if they search that, and second, this is pure and simple grooming of children into being abused. Masturbating animals? What larks! Lets have an arts and crafts session about it! Next steps: Masturbating with Uncle Jim? Why not? Masturbating Uncle Jim? Of course!

I have now made a complaint to CEOP. Others may wish to as well.

No-one would object for this ‘show’ to be aimed at teenagers and above, it’s the 5 year olds that people have a problem with, but the theatre company do not seem to have taken that on-board. I’m sure if they had just upped the age limit to 13 or whatever they could still have gone ahead and not wasted all the time and money that has gone into it so far. The fact that they do not wish to do so speaks volumes about who they actually wanted their main audience to be - infant school aged children, and now they are not going to get them they have called the whole thing off. So chilling that they are not even trying to hide this.

ScrollingLeaves · 20/04/2022 14:01

I think 13 year olds can do without it too.

theDudesmummy · 20/04/2022 14:09

Well, actually there are aspects of it that remain inappropriate for teenagers (and remember that teenagers mature at different rates, and also that some have SEN). The penis song and the suggestion of Googling masturbating animals are clear grooming for any age group.

Sex ed does not include inviting people, in the first person, to touch your penis. This is called modelling, it's education alright, but of a different type. Behaviour modelling and then generalisation of the modelled behavior are very effective forms of teaching in lots of areas. And will be very effective here too, as these people know just as well as any teacher, psychologist or behaviourist. None of this is accidental or the product of incompetance or naivity, It is deliberate and is using tried and validated educational and behavioural techniques to the letter. Those who are behind this know EXACTLY what they are doing.

Well of course, but 13 year olds are not as impressionable as 5 years olds and would probably just snigger their way through it. And also probably would refuse to go to
something like this with their parents anyway whereas 5 year olds wouldn’t have a choice and have zero critical thinking.

theDudesmummy · 20/04/2022 14:15

Remember also that the "education" going on here is not just aimed at the children. It is aimed at all of us, to groom us over time into shifting our boundaries and to accept the unaccaptable. And in a very specific way it is also aimed directly at the abusers or aspiring abusers, because it tells them PRECISELY how to operate. It (the webpage) is a highly effective manual on how to groom children for abuse. The MAPs hear the call of the penis song, loud and clear, believe me.

theDudesmummy · 20/04/2022 14:17

I have spoken to dozens and dozens of people who as children heard almost exactly the same words as that penis song. Not usually set to music with a three-part harmony, I grant you. I promise you the outcome was not a good one in any case.

Not a peep from CEOP yet. I will be optimistic and think they may have been overwhelmed on this issue?

13 year olds are also on social media or are aware of it, so they can easily find and contact the people telling them to search animals masturbating and getting naked in front of them, I can see that going amazing.
Probably best they stay away from all age groups and leave sex education up to the professionals who understand safe guarding.

Shall we sing along?

I agree that the targeting of 5-year olds is chilling. So much of this seems to be aimed at really young children. Which 13 year old wants to draw a masturbating animal on their parent’s request?

but this is just the really awful bit. I can tell you that my 13-year old would be very uncomfortable with this. Normal SexEd, no problems, asking me about things, no problems but she would not want to have a stranger (adult) showing her their genitalia, talking to her about masturbation, sex - and I do believe that any sign of bestiality would make her happy immediately text me to ask what to do (answer: call the police).

but she has boundaries. 5-year olds have spent less time developing their boundaries and it is easier for a pervert to cross their boundaries.

The masturbating animal search is going to find some very disturbing results which many, even the majority of, 13 year olds will not be able to cope with.

waterlego · 20/04/2022 14:50

Interesting that they’ve taken out the bit about animal masturbation but not some of the other strange and worrying stuff. It’s baffling that they can’t work out for themselves what is inappropriate and have to wait for a backlash before they take something off the site. (The fact that they’ve removed that particular bit strongly suggests someone from the organisation is reading this thread, doesn’t it? Hi, if you’re reading. Please stay the fuck away from children; you haven’t a clue about safeguarding.)

The bits about nakedness in the show are weird. All about how the performers may or may not get naked according to what makes them comfortable, without a thought as to whether visiting infants may feel uncomfortable or confused looking at the naked body of an adult to whom they are not related. And then a reminder that one should only get naked in private (unless you are a thespian with no boundaries, clearly).

Even I have not had the stomach to Google the masturbating animals and I am a medical professional in my late 50s!

If they ARE reading: Hear this: I KNOW this is not accidental and I know what you are doing. Fuck off and stop producing carefully created content for the benefit of sexual abusers of children and their apologists.

They’ve also taken down the names of the actors involved in the show. Interesting how they’re not standing by their educational masterpiece all of a sudden…

Extremist views 🤪
Words mean nothing anymore.
Dont be inappropriate around children is now an extremist view. Hmm.

ValerieDoonican · 20/04/2022 15:26

Not sure if its been mentioned above, but ThisEgg seem to have disappeared from YouTube and their website has vanished too.

Maybe those reports to CEOP did prompt some action - here's hoping.

ValerieDoonican · 20/04/2022 15:28

And like many of the people here, I am SO depressed by the uncritical regurgitation of the company's statements by not only local papers, but also mainstream outlets that REALLY ought to be doing some proper journalism. Utterly shameful.

ValerieDoonican · 20/04/2022 15:32

Sirry, it wasn't a ThisEgg youtube page, it was something else that didn't load, apols

I suspect that’s more to do with them having a little clean up to save their own skins. They’ve already taken the actors names off the website.

The Guardian has absolutely disgusted me. I don't even want to read it any more.

Jesus, fuck off again with their "extremist views" crap. I am most certainly at one extreme on the scale of positivity or negativity towards child sexual abus and enabling it, I'll give you that.

I think the sneakiness around this is also so telling. Pretending to be working with the NSPCC, pretending to be well meaning etc.. And when women and mums protest, we are “bigots” and meanies, and then they flounder, a bit like posters here. If they were confident about the safeguarding aspects, I would expect the safeguarding assessments to be discussed and how this was approved. And there was no safeguarding assessment in a sex show for 5-year olds, can they really be that stupid?

Sadly, I think both the organisers and the actors need their hard drives checked. This reminds me of that Danish show someone mentioned where adults got naked and answered questions about their bodies. That was aimed at teens I think…. Imagine their surprise when one of the adults turns out to be a pedophile…!!! I mean what a shock?? Who would have thought that there could be anything sinister with a person wanting to get their kit off in front of children?

ValerieDoonican · 20/04/2022 15:44

@Organictangerine looks like you're right, a reduced version is indeed back up 😡
