To want a kindle!!

I really would like a kindle but with so many different models I have no idea which one to get. I don't want to spend hundreds...something basic with a good battery life would be idealz
Can anyone recommend one? Thank you 😊

Get the Paperwhite, 100%. Game changer!

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 15/04/2022 23:42

Don't spend £££ on one, the tech isn't worth the price. Choose the cheapest that meets your requirements.

Missushbb · 15/04/2022 23:43

yep recommend the paperwhite too. amazon usually have deals, or John lewis, i got mine from JL.

guhjof · 15/04/2022 23:44

@takealettermsjones is that any particular model?
Thank you for replying!

Paperwhite. Definitely

steff13 · 15/04/2022 23:44

I have an Oasis, but my best friend has a Paperwhite and she loves it. I love a physical book, but a Kindle is wonderful for reading in bed, taking on trips, etc.

MrsEricBana · 15/04/2022 23:45

Yes to Paperwhite BUT I downloaded the Kindle app on my phone and do all my reading on here and almost never use my kindle.

guhjof · 15/04/2022 23:45

@Missushbb which one? I will take a look in JL - Amazon have an offer for the paper white but not sure if it's the only model?

Another vote for the Paperwhite. I love mine.

Lizziekisss · 15/04/2022 23:57

Paperwhite for me too.

Spermysextowel · 16/04/2022 00:00

I think my first Kindle needed a cover with a pull-out lamp thing. I’m now on No. 4 (2 died, 1 was my fault). I think mine have always been Paperwhites; they just look like a book but they’re so much better. I do have Kindle on my phone but I don’t like reading on a shiny screen. I do recommend getting a cover so that you can hold it like a book, & if you read in bed you can change the orientation to landscape & prop it up & read (nearly) hands-free!

Best time to get one is in black Friday deals, super cheap then.
I have a fire HD 10. I mostly use it to play games, dh downloaded films on to my old (smaller one) for me when I was in hospital longer than expected after having baby. Our eldest has one that is over a decade old, she doesn't want a new one because it's so old it doesn't play adverts 🤣

It looks like there are two current models, the regular and the signature. The regular one is less expensive and if it's your first it will probably be fine.

Just putting it out there but I have a Kobo. Made by different people and you can buy your books from anywhere. Also you can borrow books from the library.

HighLifeNotEver · 16/04/2022 00:11

Check if your library supports Kobo, free books :)

guhjof · 16/04/2022 00:11

Thank you all so much!!

I'm on my 3rd as upgraded a couple of times.
At a min go for a paper white but if you can get an oasis. It's got a larger screen and flips to read from either side.

Missushbb · 16/04/2022 00:13

just looked at my john lewis- mine is the 11th generation paperwhite. i paid £105- i think it was black friday, as its now £129. i love it.

Haveatakeaway · 16/04/2022 00:22

I just have kindle fire 7, 8 etc. I got them on black Friday for £35 for the whole family. What's the difference with the paperwhite? Can I read books better in the sun etc? I find I can do what I need on these but they're really slow for games etc

brokengoalposts · 16/04/2022 00:22

I have a paper white, I did have one if the early kindles but I couldn't read it in the dark so upgraded to paper white, I read every night and it's still going strong 7 years later.

The paper white is front lit so the light is directed toward the screen and not at your eyes. It's much better for reading than the Fire. With the Paperwhite you can read in any light including bright sunlight.

I also have a Fire which I use for watching videos and some web surfing. But I read books on my Paperwhite.

KrisAkabusi · 16/04/2022 00:32

I've had three different kindles over the years, but now I just use the phone app. Set the background to sepia, and I've no problem with eyestrain.

DidgeDoolittle · 16/04/2022 00:34

I've had 5 kindles. Most definitely prefer the Paperwhite over any other type. I wouldn't be without mine.

Thank you @SenecaFallsRedux!
