To think that bringing cakes into work is a bit try hard

Fair enough if it's for an special event or something. It's a nice gesture, but I think bringing in cakes for everyone 'just because' is people trying to be liked and win people over. Maybe I'm just miserable.

Itsvalentino · 29/03/2022 15:19

I think YABU, I love to bake and eat cakes, sometimes I bake but I’m on a diet, so I take the cakes into work. That’s not me being an arse kisser, that’s me trying to fatten them up, whilst slimming myself Grin

Finfintytint · 29/03/2022 15:20

I bring in home baked stuff for my colleagues. I do it because they like it . I’m not trying to win anyone over. Daft assumption to make.

MrsCooper2 · 29/03/2022 15:21

Sometimes it's just a nice thing to do. There doesn't have to be an ulterior motive. I cant bake but I have bought cakes for my colleagues because I appreciate them and all the support we offer each other.

Hugasauras · 29/03/2022 15:21

Some people just like to bake. I worked with a lovely lady who just really enjoyed baking but lived alone, so it gave her pleasure to bring stuff in to work and we all enjoyed it too. Don't think she was 'tryhard' in any way, she just wanted her bakes to go to a good home 🤷‍♀️

sauvignonblancplz · 29/03/2022 15:22

Noooooo , love the people who bring cake.
They love the adulation of their hobby , we get to eat the cake . Everyone’s a winner.

@Itsvalentino secret feeder Grin

Beachtrip · 29/03/2022 15:23

Hell no!
Work in a small office and my manager brings in a small cake/biscuit/treat for us each week.
She loves doing it and it makes us feel good so YABU

UniversalTruth · 29/03/2022 15:24

With talk like this, I'll never get cake at work again so for that YABVU! NHS runs on cake.

Turningpurple · 29/03/2022 15:24

I take it someone you don't like does this?

UsernameIsNotAvailableRightNow · 29/03/2022 15:24

My kids love the process of baking but don't actually like to eat much so my wife very often takes baking into her work

peachescariad · 29/03/2022 15:24

Yep.....agreed, you're just being miserable

TabithaTittlemouse · 29/03/2022 15:25

You are miserable. I like cake.

Frannibananni · 29/03/2022 15:26

Yes you are being miserable 😉. Some of us like to bake and eat cake. Normal at both mine and DH work. I love it when someone else makes some thing new. The company bought birthday cakes are appreciated but disappointing compared to homemade. Gosh I don’t think I can tell you how much I love actual homemade cakes not the commercially made ones which are made to stay fresh for a week.

mynameiscalypso · 29/03/2022 15:27

God, I do this all the time. Mainly because I like cake so want an excuse to it eat.

grapewines · 29/03/2022 15:27

Cake makes afternoons with deadlines manageable. YABU.

LabMix · 29/03/2022 15:29

there was a woman in my office who loved baking, found it really relaxing and enjoyable but lived alone so wouldn’t eat half of it. Do you think she should have thrown it in the bin or what?

Coughee · 29/03/2022 15:30

Even if people are just trying to be liked, does it matter? Trying too hard to be liked is hardly an horrendous character trait. Eat the cake, maybe it'll sweeten you up a bit....

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 29/03/2022 15:31

I think YABU and I don’t even like cake & always politely decline.

People like to bake for other people. Can’t get worked up about that.

LndnGrl · 29/03/2022 15:33

Yabvu. You are miserable, yes.

JulieYS · 29/03/2022 15:34

Sometimes people just like being kind and generous, without an ulterior motive. So I think YABU (I had to look up what that means first!).

Mind you, you never know. Some people might well be trying to curry favour. Or should I say, cake favour? Sorry, that was bad!

HaddawayAndShite · 29/03/2022 15:34

So being nice is a bad thing now? Well, that's good for you then.

Lamerexo · 29/03/2022 15:34

This. You sound very miserable OP!
PurpleDaisies · 29/03/2022 15:34

This is so miserable. YABU.

Fridafever · 29/03/2022 15:34

Do you think trying to be liked is a bad thing? I don’t really understand your issue with it?
