To think that bringing cakes into work is a bit try hard

Fair enough if it's for an special event or something. It's a nice gesture, but I think bringing in cakes for everyone 'just because' is people trying to be liked and win people over. Maybe I'm just miserable.
@HELLITHURT there’s a house just sold over the road, you were sadly too slow!
Although it was VERY PINK on the inside, including a fuschia pink shower curtain and matching blind! Actually you might have dodged a bullet there Grin
But your cake making family are opposite, I could take pink for that! GrinGrinGrin

OMG, don't tell my colleagues that! We have a treat spot in the middle of the office and everyone contributes to it. We often work through lunch, and if we didn't have the stash, somebody would eventually collapse.

When someone asks one of us how we do our jobs, my response is usually that the team runs mostly on cake. 😁

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 29/03/2022 18:54

It's nice. Maybe you should be nicer.

pilates · 29/03/2022 18:55

Op, you sound fun to work with.

ImInStealthMode · 29/03/2022 18:57

YABU (even though I don't like cake).

We have 3 or 4 hobby bakers in our office, they do it for fun or to take their minds off other things but can't possibly eat all their own bakes so bring them in to share. What's the harm?

MushMonster · 29/03/2022 18:57

I think you are quite miserable to be honest.

bungaloid · 29/03/2022 19:02

I consider myself extraordinarily miserable, but this is low even for me.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 29/03/2022 19:05

Well, the OP hasn't been back... Just dropped the Cake Bomb and then naffed off!

TheChosenTwo · 29/03/2022 19:14

@HELLITHURT I’m going to PM you a photo of the pink Grin

TheChosenTwo · 29/03/2022 19:15

Oh no, you can’t pm photos Sad

Topseyt · 29/03/2022 19:17

It's a nice thing to do, surely!

Yes, I'm afraid you do sound very much like a misery guts. Nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to eat it. Have some if you want to, don't if you don't want to. Stop the contempt though for someone trying to do something nice for the team.

HeckyPeck · 29/03/2022 19:17

YABU

I love free cake 🍰

bagsforlife20 · 29/03/2022 19:17

@Hugasauras

Some people just like to bake. I worked with a lovely lady who just really enjoyed baking but lived alone, so it gave her pleasure to bring stuff in to work and we all enjoyed it too. Don't think she was 'tryhard' in any way, she just wanted her bakes to go to a good home 🤷‍♀️
This is so sweet
gogohm · 29/03/2022 19:27

No, some people bake as a hobby and get pleasure from sharing them, most colleagues are very appreciative! Better the baker bringing in cakes than the keen cyclist retelling their ride blow by blow every other day!

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 29/03/2022 19:29

Maybe I'm just miserable

Yeah, definitely this. Grief.

emmylousings · 29/03/2022 21:33

One of the things I like about WFH, is not having to eat cake at all. Hate the stuff.

bumblingbovine49 · 29/03/2022 21:42

@Chely

Nobody wants to eat cakes alone, bring others one and feel like less of a fat fucker 🤣
Exactly. If I bring in cake, it is because I want some but it somehow feels wrong to bring in cake only for me to eat. Something about cake makes it better to eat with other people for some reason
Makeitsoso · 29/03/2022 21:47

Really common in my workplace. It’s not one person and they are people who like to bake. I’m very happy to eat them and don’t feel it’s ‘try hard’

oprahfan · 29/03/2022 22:49

Very common in my workplace OP.

Cake is very well received indeed by most colleagues.
It doesn’t have anything to do with ‘trying too hard’. We have colleagues who just find pleasure in making something delicious. One colleague lives on her own, family grown up, etc and loves to bake the latest trend or something new.
The boss even makes cakes.
Cake is the answer to a lot of things, believe me. And a cup of tea cries out for a piece of cake to go with it.
You come across as judgmental. Yup. And miserable. Try cake. It might put a smile on your face!
Made Chelsea buns today……..

Clockstooforward · 29/03/2022 22:52

I regularly take treats into work..the staff work really hard and are not appreciated by management! I do it for them ,not for myself!

lap90 · 29/03/2022 22:55

Yeah i think it's you being miserable tbh.

Loopytiles · 29/03/2022 22:57

I have an eating disorder. Office cakes etc stopping was a massive silver lining during covid times.

youkiddingme · 29/03/2022 23:08

Fancy taking cakes to work. Bastards.

Don't be such a grumpy arse!
