You phone the salad rental depot nearest you and they pop round with a lovely bowl of salad for your party. The guests see the healthy vegetables and rainbow of pretty colours sitting among your tasty beige buffet and judge you to be a good and worthwhile person. Then after the party has finished the salad rental van comes back and packs up the uneaten salad so it can be taken to the next party.

Could maybe rent out pineapples as well for when you have visitors.

Any investors?

Back in the late 80s I worked for a family based contract catering company.
They had an (elderly) Uncle who had been out in Singapore for years, and had recently returned.
According to him it was common practice in the 60s & 70s for the 5 star hotels to produce fabulous buffets and serve them at 7/8pm to the hotel guests. Then there would be a back door auction of said buffet leftovers. The winner would then take the leftover buffet remains to his 3 & 4 star hotel customers who would serve them at 9/10pm.
This selling on of food would continue until the dregs were sold in the very early hours to the really dodgy establishments of Singapore.
(think strip clubs and card dens).
Not sure if it's true, but it was a good story.
Maybe the rental salad business could employ similar tactics to ensure it was shifted before it was past its best before end?

Fernandina The stunt book collection is genius. The literary equivalent of the boomerang banana are all the books by Noam Chomsky and Yanis Varoufakis that have sat on my bedside table for literally years, while I dive into Jilly Cooper for the tenth time- definitely the sausage roll of my personal library 😆

A local Italian wine bar would deep fry the uneaten cooked vegetables from lunch (they came in separate serving dishes, I don't think they actually scooped them off the diners' plates) and serve them as free bar snacks in the evening. It was very popular.

How about some salad sealed in jelly? More resilient, less likely to be touched, and an interesting talking point at the party (behind your back Grin)

Brilliant idea

And for children’s parties as already mentioned

Maybe add some vegetable smoothies too spinach and chard, carrot and okra, beetroot and mushroom

Many years ago I came up with the idea of Wedding Guest Rental. Every wedding I've ever been to included at least one male guest wearing a kilt, and I was beginning to suspect that it was in fact always the same man. If you can make money from the idea, you're very welcome to it!

MermaidEyes · 27/03/2022 13:44

magpiecomplex what a great idea! You could go to town with wedding rentals. Rented mother in laws for when the bride doesn't want to put up with her own, rented cake for when you don't want to feed the greedy family you haven't seen for 20 years and are only turning up for the free food...OP, this business of yours is going to be booming! Remember us all when you become rich and famous!

I think this rental service may already exist, and is possibly called Picka-Pickled-Pict

Magpiecomplex · 27/03/2022 16:37

I love it!

Stunt Pineapple and Rent-a-Salad are now up there with Penis Beaker and Naice Ham. Nice one OP 👌👌

Wendyer · 27/03/2022 17:51

My only concern here is that the rented salad is vulnerable once out of our hands. We need to ensure it’s integrity - for instance, what if it came back with condiments added?

Mysterian · 27/03/2022 20:14

How about a camera on the salad bowl? That'll keep the croutons off.

Each salad would need an inventory so you can count the items in and out. Any missing or broken items to be replaced or paid for. The never ending salad!
