Product/service idea: Salad rental.

You phone the salad rental depot nearest you and they pop round with a lovely bowl of salad for your party. The guests see the healthy vegetables and rainbow of pretty colours sitting among your tasty beige buffet and judge you to be a good and worthwhile person. Then after the party has finished the salad rental van comes back and packs up the uneaten salad so it can be taken to the next party.

Could maybe rent out pineapples as well for when you have visitors.

Any investors?

Excellent idea apart from re -packaging the fingered, unwanted salad at full price or in fact, any price!Envy not envy!

LegallyBlende · 26/03/2022 22:20

Great idea. Do you do a healthy option for school lunches too? Can be returned after 1st break.

(I actually love salad)

Mindtheears · 26/03/2022 22:26

You’d have to make sure it wasn’t a massive salad though - if there was a Mumsnetter at the party, they’d be all over it. As long as it was kept to a moderate size then your assets should be safe.

JennyForeigner · 26/03/2022 22:33

Careful - I've read about what mumsnetters do with pineapple.

Wendyer · 26/03/2022 22:44

Two thoughts:

  1. How do you stop the lettuce going limp? You don’t want to lose money constantly having to buy new lettuce.
  1. Invest in some slugs to make the salad experience more real.
Wendyer · 26/03/2022 22:46

Could charge extra for the slugs too. Say a fiver per slug?

AuntieStella · 26/03/2022 22:48

Will there be a special MN discount for ordering the Massive?

PonyPatter44 · 26/03/2022 22:50

I am very interested in your product. Please take my money.

No, but you will be salad shamed in AIBU.
Mysterian · 26/03/2022 22:52

Put the code "saladdodgerMN" into the discount box.

We would use lettuce picked for it's ability to stay erect for a long time. It would also get fluffed between missions.

Fruit bowl management too, to manage the absolute love of fruit X one week and then collect the decaying mass of the same fruit the next?

Wendyer · 26/03/2022 23:04

Are you planning to charge per hour? Or per size of rented salad?

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 26/03/2022 23:06

This thread is EXACTLY what I need tonight Grin

My son’s school has been using a service similar to this for years. Lunch often doesn’t have any vegetables because “there is a salad bar on the side and they can just help themselves”. I imagine a single lettuce leaf and half a cherry tomato sitting there for half a term. If other nearby schools do lunch at a slightly different time, the half cherry tom can even service two schools for a term!!

I'm in! I've got a child's birthday party tomorrow and have spent a fortune on carrot sticks.

I reckon we need to go strategic. All these responses about someone actually touching the salad - I suggest ring-fencing the goods (red pepper etc) with radicchio. No one ever eats radicchio voluntarily.

How about a holographic salad?
SarahAndQuack · 26/03/2022 23:15

Holographic salad might be the plastic salad of salad rentals, though?

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 26/03/2022 23:16

But it'll be pretty and untouchable?

And you could just update the ingredients with the touch of a button

0blio · 26/03/2022 23:18

Don't forget bananas for the fruit bowl and lunch boxes. On hire to take to work and school then brought back at the end of the day.

ClariceQuiff · 26/03/2022 23:25

Looking forward to seeing you on Dragons' Den, OP. Steven Bartlett would be your go-to Dragon - your salads would be extremely Instagrammable. But you might get a nod from Deborah 'Plant Based' Meaden, as long as no eggs or cheese creep into the salads.

crackofdoom · 26/03/2022 23:29

What about branching out into vegetable kebabs for BBQs ?

Thewindwhispers · 26/03/2022 23:31

Did you know the Victorians really did rent pineapples to show guests how posh they were… Pineapple returned uneaten and off to next party… Have a google

midlifecrash · 26/03/2022 23:34

Fruit bowls with those hard plums and pears that are brought with lunchtime sandwiches for meetings and then taken away again. I think they might be genetically modified to be as inorganic and stable as possible. (I would drink the tomato juice though).

crackofdoom · 26/03/2022 23:35

Pink wafer biscuits? Biscuit

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 26/03/2022 23:38

If someone hires pink wafer biscuits for a party I'm at, no way will there be any left to return to said hire company
