To feel he loves his dog

More than me. Been together 8 months and close for over a year. He got his dog just before we met when he was in a bad place. He says the dog saved him. He had a couple of dogs with his ex He never stops showing photos of to me too.

I love his dog. He's great. But my boyfriend seems to be so focused on the dog it's like I don't exist. He uploads his photos onto Facebook. He shares memes about dogs being better than humans. It sleeps in the bed with us. In the morning He gives him cuddles and kisses. Asks him how he slept. He play fights him and rolls about with him. He rarely comes to me for a snog or hug.

I sometimes think is this Normal. Or is he just detached from human emotions?

Dogs are better than humans. It does sound as though he isn't ready for a relationship yet though.

To me it’s ok, but if you’re feeling jealous or that it’s not right, you should move on.

My husband is the same. Unless you have four paws and a tail, you don't get a look in.

My social media is full of photos of my dog and the cats

I don't feel the need to put DH on there at all. There are a few photos of our wedding but that's it. Luckily, he doesn't feel the need to compete against a dog for my attention as I'm pretty sure he'd lose

Do you ever go to him for a hug or a snog?

Oh, and our dog sleeps in the bed, is allowed on the sofa and has even been known to sit shot-gun in the car while one of us sits in the back

"I love my dog more than my wife." Really? Because that's utterly sad. So if one had to go, you'd keep the dog and ditch your wife. Does she know that? If not, you really need to tell her and let her decide if she wants to stay in that relationship.

The love for a dog is uncomplicated and deep. They love you back without reservations. So, yeah, I love my dog like crazy.

But I love dp more.

I think you are unreasonable to be jealous of his dog and it shows a lovely side to him.

You're jealous of a dog? You've got family, friends, workmates, neighbours, I expect. The dog has only got your bloke.

I adore my cat and put photos of him on Facebook. I cuddle him, talk to him, ensure that he's warm enough. I don't love my husband and family any less.

Newsflash: different people like different things, and that's fine. Just because you don't like something, that doesn't mean it's 'not normal'.

OP, the issue here is not that he loves his dog more than you. The issue is that he likes dogs more than you like dogs, and that is potentially going to be a problem.

Plenty of people would not see your boyfriend's attachment to his dog as a problem at all. I'd find it incredibly endearing, personally. But you and he are clearly not on the same page when it comes to what it means to be a dog owner. Neither of you is right or wrong, but I suspect you are just incompatible long-term if you're uncomfortable with the bond he has with his pet.

Our dog hugs dh when he returns home, I do not because I am busy. She can't do all the stuff I do though so he'll always love me more, might like the dog better though which is fine.

Pretty sure I loved my cat more than DH for the first couple years.

They're about equal standing now. Cat farts less.

My dogs are dogs but are still my babies and definitely part of the family.

They’re smelly, dirty, they get in the way, the disproportionately expensive for what they are, they tie you down and stop you going and doing where you want and they usually come with deluded entitled pet owners.

I was fully in support of your partner (having a dog that i genuinely think kept me alive through an incredibly traumatic time) but then i read he 'asks how he slept' and laughed out loud. Incredible. I loved it.

You’ve only been together a short while. He probably DOES love his dog more than you. What exactly does he mean when he says the dog saved his life though? I take it he was in a bad way mentally beforehand, but I’m wondering if the reason for this was because of a woman?

So he loves his dog a lot. He is compassionate and that’s the best feature in a man. I don’t know you but you might be quiet an attention seeker so it won’t work out with this man so move on

I don't see any problem here. He sounds like an animal lover. It's fact that dogs can prove extremely therapeutic to humans, particularly when going through emotional turmoil. Hence the feeling that the dog"saved" him.

I too love my dog more than most people. He is consistently ecstatic to see me, relentlessly loyal and he loves me more than he loves himself. How could you not? "Man's best friend" and all that.
