My DC asked for a Colin Caterpillar cake for their birthday, carefully brought it home but it's broken in 2 😱
I'm crap at any type of artsy, bakery stuff, what can I do ?
Your help would be much appreciated !!

If you have icing sugar make some icing and stick it back together, or jam

SoupDragon · 15/03/2022 09:38

How badly is is broken?

JemimaTiggywinkle · 15/03/2022 09:39

Shove it back together and hope they don’t notice!
Or melt some chocolate and drizzle it over to try and hide the crack?

AddictedToOlives · 15/03/2022 09:39

Make him a ‘bandage’ with a wide ribbon?

ForgotwhatIcameinherefor · 15/03/2022 09:39

Glue with melted chocolate
Tie a ribbon round it

SoupDragon · 15/03/2022 09:39

Looking at the photo on Ocado, I would buy some smarties and some milk chocolate. Push the two parts together, melt the chocolate and use it to cover the break. Make similar "decorations" with the smarties along the unbroken bits.

EvilPea · 15/03/2022 09:40

Is it a clean break?
It’s only chocolate topped. So a hot knife might melt and smooth it together.
Or melt some more chocolate and use it as glue

I would go back and exchange it
WellThatsATurnipForTheBooks · 15/03/2022 09:41

Glue together with melted chocolate and give him a "belt" of Smarties to hide the join

katscamel · 15/03/2022 09:41

Tie a ribbon round it? Or strawberry laces

JemimaTiggywinkle · 15/03/2022 09:47

Hope it goes well. If not, please provide before and after pictures for our amusement!

PoAhOh · 15/03/2022 09:50

I did think about taking it back but I don't think I've the nerve 😕
It's a messy break, chocolate chipped off but completely severed in the middle.
Thank you so much for all of your ideas I completely panicked.
I'll buy chocolate, smarties & ribbon to see what I can do.
Unfortunately my DC notices everything but they'll be upset for me worrying about it !

You can buy just the faces, clean chop and you’ve got two

Glittertwins · 15/03/2022 09:55

It's a new type - Hospital Colin??

TheOrigRights · 15/03/2022 09:59

Leave it for a bit, I'm sure it'll grow into two perfect Colins Grin

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 15/03/2022 10:05

Got any toy carnivorous dinosaurs?

oakleaffy · 15/03/2022 10:07

Great idea!
KeyWorker · 15/03/2022 10:09

I’d melt some chocolate and then add some sprinkles/smarties to the top.

MajesticElephant · 15/03/2022 10:10

Leave it broken and fill hole with overflowing ‘guts’ (smarties)

oakleaffy · 15/03/2022 10:11

Hahah! I remember as a child being told that a worm chopped in two turns to two worms.

Only the section with the head lives on. {Not that this applies to Two Colins}

As a child, Mum made me the most amazing ''Carousel'' birthday cake with plastic horses on, equating to the number of guests.

One of the horses got burned by the candle flame, and had a melted section on his hind leg.

I was told I'd have to have the imperfect one, as the ''Birthday girl''

I did feel a bit aggrieved , but accepted the melted horse.

But your DC sounds a really sweet child.

Hillarious · 15/03/2022 10:16

Buy another one and eat the broken one yourself to calm the nerves!

RocketPanda · 15/03/2022 10:19

Wouldn't have happened with a Cuthbert.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/03/2022 10:34

Butter icing - soft butter and icing sugar, with some cocoa powder if you want it chocolatey - to stick it together.

One tablespoon of butter and 2 of icing sugar should be enough. Use block butter, not spreadable - block will be stiffer once cool.
Smarties on top to cover any visible join?
