Taking phone in the shower

Panda86 · 06/03/2022 12:54

My partner is constantly glued to his phone, so much so, he takes it with him even when he goes for a shower. Is this normal behaviour? Should I be worried? It’s kept on silent too so never makes a sound when messages/calls come through. There’s clearly something he doesn’t want me to see on there or am I being paranoid and maybe this is just how people are with phones?

My phone is always with me and my partner always has his phone too. Both our phones are on silent when we are together as hate to be interrupted by a message or notification. Very normal in my opinion. Maybe you could just ask him what is so interesting on his phone?

Reddershoes · 06/03/2022 13:05

Possibly all normal. I listen to a podcast on my phone in the shower.

isthismylifenow · 06/03/2022 13:09

I listen to music while I'm in the shower. So not odd to me. But it's normal behaviour for me. I assume this isnt for him?

mynameiscalypso · 06/03/2022 13:11

I take mine in the bath/shower so I can read or listen to podcasts. My phone is always on silent too; I actually don't know anyone other than my mother who doesn't keep their phone on silent all the time unless they're specially waiting for something that they don't want to miss.

Bitofachinwag · 06/03/2022 13:11

I think it's common, but not normal.

RampantIvy · 06/03/2022 13:13

I never take my phone into the shower with me. It only takes minutes to shower, and I don't need to be available to everyone 24/7.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 06/03/2022 13:13

I listen to music on my phone when washing my hair, seems normal to me!

CounsellorTroi · 06/03/2022 13:14

I’m a bit Confused by these people who read/listen to podcasts in the shower. In the bath I could understand.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/03/2022 13:14

I quite often have an episode of something on the go / am Mumsnetting as I wander round the house so often set my shower away and then leave the phone on the bathroom windowsill as I shower.

Nothing to hide. Just probably a bit addicted to my phone.

Why?
Hiddenvoice · 06/03/2022 13:15

I take mine when I’m going for a bath but shower I just leave it charging- unless I’m expecting a call etc
My ex used to do it, I questioned him and was made to look crazy for noticing something so small. Turns out he was messaging someone else and didn’t want her messages to pop up when he wasn’t in the room.
Stupidly I would never have noticed if he had left his phone in the room when showering because he used to get loads of phone calls and texts for work so I’d have ignored it!
My dh leaves his phone everywhere, he only takes it with him if he’s listening to something m.

BarbaraofSeville · 06/03/2022 13:15

If he's taking his phone in the shower, he's in there too long and it's the cost you want to worry about now that the price has gone up so much.

Showers, especially electric, can make up a large proportion of your utility bill, so that's certainly an angle to look at.

It's really easy, I put my speaker on the windowsill, connect my phone and pop my podcast on Spotify. Not sure why that's difficult to comprehend?!
CounsellorTroi · 06/03/2022 13:18

@DysmalRadius reading in the shower? Doesn’t the phone get wet?

GeneLovesJezebel · 06/03/2022 13:18

I take mine to the loo and shower, for music and TikTok.

SomePosters · 06/03/2022 13:22

I’ve got nothing to hide and my phone comes to the shower with me

I like to listen to music while getting ready. It helps start my day on the right mood.

TigerLilyTail · 06/03/2022 13:22

I always have my phone with me. I just put it on the stool in the bathroom when I take a shower. I'm really boring and have nothing to hide.

DysmalRadius · 06/03/2022 13:23

You can get waterproof cases for phones but I really meant what was weird about listening to a podcast in the shower?

NewYearEveryYear · 06/03/2022 13:24

My phone is pretty.mucb always on silent.

And I take it to the bathroom / shower. Usual I take a pee (or, brave yourself, a poo) before I shower, so I like to mindlessly scroll for a whole. Then put it to one side for the actual showering.

RampantIvy · 06/03/2022 13:24

Some of you must take really long showers to not be able to go without listening to music for 5 minutes.

LightSpeeds · 06/03/2022 13:24

If he's constantly glued to it, does he ever pay you any attention... or talk to you? Do you trust him?

Kingharoldshairstyle · 06/03/2022 13:25

I also take mine in. I have a blue tooth speaker in there and often play music, but even if I don’t I take my phone into thr bathroom when I shower and just sit it on the vanity surface.

Why are you suspicious? Is he doing something else to cause it, or is it an issue of yours?

CounsellorTroi · 06/03/2022 13:25

I get it now. No nothing weird.

I was thinking this, on shower threads you get people saying a shower is quicker than a sink wash. It probably isn’t if you are listening to a podcast!
peboh · 06/03/2022 13:29

My phone is on silent at all times (apart from when I'm in bed incase of emergency)
I also have all my notifications muted (apart from text and phone calls) as I hate when my phone beeps, and I'm not in a rush to read WhatsApp, Facebook etc.
My phone comes everywhere with me, even in the bathroom where I listen to music/audiobook whilst showering.
None of those behaviours alone are suspicious, if it something you're partner has always done. Are there other behaviours that are making you worried?
