Taking phone in the shower

Panda86 · 06/03/2022 12:54

My partner is constantly glued to his phone, so much so, he takes it with him even when he goes for a shower. Is this normal behaviour? Should I be worried? It’s kept on silent too so never makes a sound when messages/calls come through. There’s clearly something he doesn’t want me to see on there or am I being paranoid and maybe this is just how people are with phones?

@RampantIvy

Some of you must take really long showers to not be able to go without listening to music for 5 minutes.
My showers are about 15/20 minutes. I also use the shower to decompress after the day so I enjoy listening to music and just shutting the world out whilst I'm in there.
Moonshine5 · 06/03/2022 13:36

I suspect I will get it now but I'm putting it out there.....I don't know how healthy it is to keep phones with you 24/7.
I come in peace and wish you all wellSmile

Ah, I prefer a bath to relax. Ours is a really good power shower and probably used more water in 20 minutes than running a bath.

secretsqizzle · 06/03/2022 13:41

I think a very very large proportion of us are addicted to our phones. I cannot remember the last time I just watched a tv program exclusively - without phone fiddling at the same time. It's like some fucking comfort blanket !
Yes mine come to the loo and bath with me. It's in the bathroom when I shower but I wouldn't be able to hear anything over the water . .. I'm nearly 60 and definitely not having an affair. (Except with my phone !)

LadyDanburysCane · 06/03/2022 13:50

I’m sitting here on Mumsnet while DH is outside sorting the shed. My ‘phone is in the kitchen and DH’s ‘phone is on the coffee table in front of me.

Neither of us take our phones everywhere and we can both read each other’s notifications (he knows my passwords but his is a work provided phone with fancy security).

So, yes, I would consider it odd if DH took his phone into the shower and vice versa. I probably wouldn’t actually notice though….

Disneyblueeyes · 06/03/2022 13:58

Why bother? How long do people go in the shower for? I'm in and out in 5-10 minutes, even if I wash my hair.

Jvg33 · 06/03/2022 14:08

He has become obsessed.

Booboo24 · 06/03/2022 14:12

Is this a change or has he always done it? I take mine with me, usually because I listen to music or am mid conversation! I also use it to see the tme in the morning so I'm not late! It sits on the windowsill. I'm not up to anything, but then I've always done this ....

bellac11 · 06/03/2022 14:17

A shower is only a couple of minutes surely? Not enough time to listen to something in any great detail

Anyway my phone is always on silent and I ask my partner to do the same, cant stand the thing or the noises they make

PinkNails1 · 06/03/2022 14:19

I think it’s fine if you’re in the bath, but very weird in the shower! Can people really not pause for a few minutes whilst they wash themselves??

Mine goes everywhere with me

LibbyL92 · 06/03/2022 14:28

I’m completely glued to my phone.
It comes everywhere with me. Even the bathroom.
(I hate to say it)

It’s always on silent as well.
I hate the noises it makes.

I have absolutely nothing to hide from my bf. I’m always scrolling mumsnet/news/social media.

Totally innocent

bellac11 · 06/03/2022 14:30

This certainly does highlight the need people have developed for constant stimulation. No wonder we have MH epidemics.

toomuchlaundry · 06/03/2022 14:32

Some people seem addicted to their phones, and I thought I was bad!

Don’t phones get damp in a bathroom even if they are not actually in the shower?

danplam · 06/03/2022 14:36

I take my phone into the bathroom with me. Read the news and emails while brushing teeth, waiting for moisturiser to sink in etc. Mine is always on silent too, I hate being disturbed by the noise of notifications.

GeraltsLastWish · 06/03/2022 14:36

I would like to point out that your phones have two cameras and microphones. Which like Laptop camaras, can be hacked.

LovelyRita1 · 06/03/2022 14:37

I take mine everywhere too. Probably not the best in terms of health and 'switching off', but nothing dodgy afoot in my case

toomuchlaundry · 06/03/2022 14:37

I hope people don’t answer the phone whilst using the toilet!

Do you really just shower and then leave the room instantly and do things that mean you can't listen to a podcast? I shower, then dry myself off, moisturise, clean my teeth, brush my hair, put on deodorant etc - I'm in the bathroom for longer than just the time it takes to actually shower. Then I carry on listening while I get dressed etc until I need to be around the other people in my house again - usually at least ten minutes or so, so why not listen to something than do it in silence?
junglejane66 · 06/03/2022 14:41

@TigerLilyTail

I always have my phone with me. I just put it on the stool in the bathroom when I take a shower. I'm really boring and have nothing to hide.
I just put it on the stool Envy

Generally people are using it for music etc or so they know if a call comes though, they usually aren’t actively texting or on the phone, cos you know, they are in the shower.😂
bellac11 · 06/03/2022 14:43

Yes I shower, dry off, go back in the bedroom to put deodorant on, then deal with my hair, get dressed, go downstairs, have breakfast/cup of tea, then clean my teeth then out the door

Hugasauras · 06/03/2022 14:46

I always take mine in. Bathroom is the only chance I get for some peace and quiet sometimes to doom scroll Grin
