A man's face is appearing on my Skype call

Hello everyone
I am posting here for traffic. I call my mum on Skype quite often. Occasionally when my mother hangs up, a man's face appears on her screen for a very brief moment. It is like she can see his profile picture. It is very creepy and I am wondering if anyone else has had the same thing happen to them or could provide an explanation for it.

When I close conversations the last picture shared very very briefly flashes on the screen. Could it be that?

IcyWinterWonderland · 05/03/2022 20:16

@LaChatte Nope definitely not that

Does she call other people on Skype, is it only happening after calling you? Has she managed to take a screenshot and send it to you so you can see what she means? What does the man look like?

Sheeeeeysh · 05/03/2022 20:31

Oh that's creepy!

AnxiousHeffalump · 05/03/2022 20:32

Oh that’s weird, like someone is listening in.

LaTangerina · 05/03/2022 20:49

Definitely screenshot! How strange.

Linguini · 05/03/2022 20:50

You'll need to screenshot or photograph the image next time and ask your mum if she recognises the face

Lottle · 05/03/2022 20:51

This sounds horrible! In case it's too fast to screenshot, you can get screen recorder software. Maybe your mum would recognise him? Could it be her desk top background or something?! Unlikely!

KindlyKanga · 05/03/2022 20:57

Terrifying

whenohwhen101 · 05/03/2022 20:59

I've heard someone else say this. Not sure what it could be. Could it possibly be someone hacking into Skype?

Jedsnewstar · 05/03/2022 21:00

Is it her own reflection? Maybe she needs a shave. Grin

I’m sorry to your mum for my appalling behaviour I couldn’t resist.

She only calls me. I have never actually seen the man, she just tells me what the photo is like. I have asked her to take a screenshot, but she says the photo is only there for a couple of seconds and she can not be quick enough to take a screenshot.

I was also worried it might be a hacker, but then why would a hacker show his face?

Tell her to take a screen recording towards the end of the call so she can capture it on video.

--and then show us—

@whenohwhen101 oh that's interesting. Did they say what the photo looked like?

Definitely download some free screen recorder software. Could you do a mock Skype call when you next see her face to face so you can see her device?

Imagine having the skills required for hacking encrypted calls, but you waste that on hacking into a mother and daughter's Skype conversation just so you can flash up an image of yourself/a random man for a brief second after the call has finished. I don't think that's what's happening here.
whenohwhen101 · 05/03/2022 21:09

They just said it was the same man's face. Looked like he was maybe in his 30's. A still image of him.
Maybe them showing their face is an accident?
Really strange.

That is a good suggestion but sadly I might not see her for a while as we live in different countries. I will keep your suggestion in mind though

@whenohwhen101 It's always the same man with my call too and same photo according to my mum

Can you face time her at the same time as skyping but with the phone screen facing the Skype so you can see for yourself?

CircleofWillis · 05/03/2022 21:12

Get her to video it on her phone. She can start the recording before you end the call.

TwoShades1 · 05/03/2022 21:14

Is there someone that can be with her when you call and can film her phone to record the image? That might be easier than her trying to do a screen shot herself or using a screen record software depending on how tech savvy she is.

DontLookBackInAnger1 · 05/03/2022 21:15

Do you live near by? If so, can you meet with her, call her when next to her and hang up and see if the face is there?

Is it always the same face/facial expression etc? I wonder if it's a glitch and the same image is appearing. Rather than someone continually logging in to watch your mum
