A man's face is appearing on my Skype call

Hello everyone
I am posting here for traffic. I call my mum on Skype quite often. Occasionally when my mother hangs up, a man's face appears on her screen for a very brief moment. It is like she can see his profile picture. It is very creepy and I am wondering if anyone else has had the same thing happen to them or could provide an explanation for it.

@TwoShades1

Is there someone that can be with her when you call and can film her phone to record the image? That might be easier than her trying to do a screen shot herself or using a screen record software depending on how tech savvy she is.
Yes, another member of my family could film the end of the call on their phone. I will ask my mum to get someone to film it. It's just so strange

@DontLookBackInAnger1

Do you live near by? If so, can you meet with her, call her when next to her and hang up and see if the face is there?

Is it always the same face/facial expression etc? I wonder if it's a glitch and the same image is appearing. Rather than someone continually logging in to watch your mum

Sadly, we live in different countries. It is always the same photograph of the same man almost like a profile picture.

I agree it's strange, although extremely unlikely it is someone spying on your Skype calls. I think it's likely some kind of glitch but hard to know what without seeing exactly what's going on. Hopefully if someone can record it you can get to the bottom of it.

Is it possible someone set up her Skype for her and used his own profile pic to do it?or that her phone was second hand/reconditioned/a demonstration model ?

Creepy Shock

The iPad that she calls me on was brand new. I think she set up Skype herself, but I will ask her.

If it's an app on a tablet, could it be an ad that is popping up?

Chocolattay · 05/03/2022 21:38

This is very bizarre. I wouldn’t necessarily say somebody is listening in though. You’d think the last thing they’d want to do is show their face.

I’m thinking one of you has accidentally changed some kind of setting to show this picture. Maybe it’s a default image or something

EveningOverRooftops · 05/03/2022 21:44

Ok this is easy to do. Tell your mother to set up screen recording then give her a quick call (less than 2 mins) and see if she can send you the video. So at least you can share what she is seeing on her device.

Imperfectp3rf3ction · 05/03/2022 22:01

Are you sure it's not like a general advert or something ?

I'm really not sure because I have never seen the image. Do adverts flash up at the end of Skype calls?

Why cant you just film it on your phone while you are on skype

Winterlove · 05/03/2022 22:16

This is so creepy!

Grapeflavour · 05/03/2022 22:30

Is your mother using someone else's account? Or is she using a username that might have been someone else's in the past? Eg. a common username. Weird glitches like that can happen.

SometimesRavenSometimesParrot · 05/03/2022 22:43

Does it happen every time? What about when she Skypes someone else?

Zonder · 05/03/2022 23:23

It appears on her mum's iPad, not the OPs.

Is there a reason why you mum couldn't use her own phone to just video the call ending?

CaMePlaitPas · 06/03/2022 06:36

Are you sure it's not her/your profile picture? Sounds like a mistake. Very much doubt it's a hacker.

@mummybearsolo

Can anybody clarify some rules of a non molestation order. I have the order against my ex so obviously we cannot communicate with each other but wondering if I can message his family. I was quite close with his mum and sister and would really like to send them photographs and messages of our new baby or even for them to come and meet her. I believe my ex has told them they are not allowed to contact me but surely the order is only against him? I just feel really sad that his mum has not seen her grandchildren. We are also going through the courts for his child access (even though I have never stopped him) so it's all a bit of a mess.

Could you use something like TeamViewer (free) to log onto her PC and use her Skype to place a call to your PC?

It sounds complicated but it isn't really.

FourChimneys · 06/03/2022 07:47

Could you just switch to Zoom instead?
