That the Cannabis Industry produces a non-smelly Hybrid ASAP

Never mind the pros and cons of cannabis use and it's legality, etc - the greatest complaint really is The Smell of it. I like a spliff and on a sunny day off in my back garden I'd love nothing more than to enjoy it with a spliff. But I can't. Even if it was legal, most of my neighbours could well not like it, and like a bonfire lit when your washing is out, would probably get upset.

YANBU. One set of neighbours appear to be funding private school education for their dealer’s children, they smoke so much. Not too bad in the winter, but come summer I’ve got a choice between a headache or heatstroke from having the windows shut.

Selfish fuckers.

Mossstitch · 03/03/2022 16:53

Well it doesn't stop my neighbours🤧 unfortunately!! I was actually in sports direct earlier in the week and getting strong wafts of it, no idea where from but as someone who has never tried it (no judgement I like my wine🍷😉) I find it a particularly gross smell that makes me feel nauseous🤢

TheHateIsNotGood · 03/03/2022 17:01

Exactly. The last thing many cannabis smokers want to do is piss off their neighbours; just relax quietly, often much quieter than using Prosecco as a 'relaxant'. But it's 'smelly' so can't.

Use a weed vape, available from approx £30 on Amazon. No smell (and you can use the residue in cooking.)

Rickrollme · 03/03/2022 17:10

Hope you have a thick skin OP, everyone on MN thinks cannabis is the devil and will ruin your life but it is of course fine to have a few glasses of wine every night and more on weekends.

TheHateIsNotGood · 03/03/2022 17:11

AND...anti-social people will be that way irrespective of their cannabis usage. So, if all the Anti-Social types who also smoked Cannabis smoked a non-smelly hybrid, then heir anti-social behaviour would be easier to highlight.

Or, like bonfires and BBQs, maybe some local areas could consider By-laws governing acceptable seasons and/or times for smoking a spliff in your own back yard.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 03/03/2022 17:15

I quite like smelling it on people, I know who to avoid then

Especially when I'm interviewing Smile

Those who use it or have friends/family who do.... pls don't think we can't smell it on you. It seems to cling

VeryQuaintIrene · 03/03/2022 17:19

Yes, I completely agree with you. It's foul and one of my least favourite smells.

WorraLiberty · 03/03/2022 17:22

YANBU OP

I'm surprised they haven't managed this yet. If anything, it would make it less detectable by police.

BridgesofMadisonfan · 03/03/2022 17:23

I'd love to try weed but it stinks!

I can smell it when a car goes past with a weed smoker in it.

I don't remember it smelling this strong when I was younger?

OneTC · 03/03/2022 17:23

It's interesting how much your attitude and association to something like flavour or scent determines whether you like it or not

I love the smell personally, and the flavour, without them I'd be less inclined to have it. Vaping is the pre existing way to get almost what you're after though

GeidiPrimes · 03/03/2022 17:24

I'd recommend a vape too. I love my pax

TheHateIsNotGood · 03/03/2022 17:26

Yep, I gotta thick skin, at least where Cannabis is concerned. The first argument I can shoot down is the Gateway Drug one. I'm 59.

After decades of pressure groups and watching the reams of evidence mounting, I have little appetite for adding to the fucking obvious.

Whilst I'm still fully capable, all I want to do is enjoy a spliff on a sunny day in my back yard/garden in peace and without pissing anyone else off.

Easiest solution would be if the Industry produced a non-smelly version so I can lie back in my hammock with a book and a spliff; feeling very, very content.

Cannabis is well known to cause mental health issues, particularly in young men.

More to the point, alcohol isnt illegal and currently cannabis is. Ergo, no one should be using it FULL STOP. Unless its medically prescribed obviously (and medical cannabis isnt smoked herbal roll ups)

But OP, actually I agree with you. I work in an ASB team for a housing association and a vast majority of our complaints is the smell causing a nuisance and distress to neighbours. It's such a sickly, sweet, sticky smell that causes headaches and nausea. A non smelling cannabis would be a game changer.

That said, drug dealers are scum and those who allow their criminal activities and abuse of the vulnerable by purchasing cannabis, should hang their heads in shame.

TheUser420 · 03/03/2022 17:29

The only cannabis industry in the UK is the government approved British Sugar/GW Pharma outfit. And they have no incentive to reduce the smell.

US based cannabis industry also has no incentive.

For consumption, vaping keeps the whiff down. Or of course there is the edibles route. And growers really should be carbon filtered to the nines.

That said, the spread of smells is quite amazing. From coffee to pineapple.

Onionpatch · 03/03/2022 17:32

Please develop this!

The stench of canabis is really anti social. It makes me feel sick and gives me a headache.

I dont drink alcohol and I dont take drugs myself but I recognise others do and would like the impact on me to be less. I reckon id hardly notice canabis users if it didnt smell.

nuffinimlazyatthemoment · 03/03/2022 17:34

Nobody is going to call the police or complain for an occasional joint smoked in the back garden, unless you're downplaying how often you smoke it. We had a full on cannabis farm (an entire empty house given over to the stuff) near us that you could smell five streets away in the scorching hot summer of 2018. It reeked and the police didn't bother with it til it had matured and they'd fucked off and left it empty again.

Agrudge · 03/03/2022 17:47

As someone who isnt a drug user. I agree with what your saying the ,get rid of the smell and most complaints wouldnt happen.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 03/03/2022 17:50

Pax 3 vape, game changer, the vapour disappears with hardly a trace and its very economical. Combine with edibles for a deeper body relaxation.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 03/03/2022 17:53

I visited a few cannabis shops in California around Big Sur, and funnily the vast majority of the clientele were elderly women. It definitely has health benefits as you age, unlike alcohol.

TheHateIsNotGood · 03/03/2022 17:53

The various strands of the different debates surrounding the arguments on the legal/illegal debate are coming out.

Even though I am on and have been on the Legalize Cannabis side of the argument for decades (very quietly as I like my uninhibited freedoms) I fully appreciate that the existing research on Cannabis Use and its Adverse Effects on the Mental Health of Young Men appears to be very compelling in its findings.

However, this Research needs to be teased apart, as most Social Research does. None of it accounts for the parallel usage of other drugs such as Ecstasy, nor the 'volumes' of Cannabis consumed nor the cultural conditions (eg: Dance Culture) prevalent during the time periods during which most of the research evidence was obtained.

Anecdotally, the only young men with Mental Health problems that have been associated with Cannabis Use that I've ever known were simultaneously consuming vast quantities of other illegal substances too.

But as these substances didn't smell, lets blame the Cannabis instead.

LieNoMore · 03/03/2022 17:56

Yes I agree, have never smoked the stuff but have no issues with those that do but that smell is something else. Makes me feel sick. Nothing worse than smelling it from someone in the supermarket.

There’s someone in our street who smokes it outdoors in the summer and you can smell it all over the street (have still to figure out where it’s coming from)

Also there’s a road in our town near some industrial units where you can smell weed as you drive down (windows closed) its bad, I’m starting to think there’s a grow factory in there.

I had to go to the next town over last week and walked down the main high street…again could smell it walking down the street. Thought it was the guy in front of me but he turned off and could still smell it further down.
They found a grow factory in a disused building in that same area a couple of years ago….suspect another one has been set up.

It’s vile!

Peachy7 · 03/03/2022 17:59

OP have you tried hash rather than weed? Doesn't seem to smell, but a lot of people don't like it

TheHateIsNotGood · 03/03/2022 18:11

Lienomore haha, weed smells travel and stick where the wind takes it. There's a bloke down the road that has a spliff out of his window and the smell collects outside my front door. Even though I smoke I can smell it, and it's not mine.

Actually stinkiness is not a sign of good quality but many think it is so the Industry has produced this. So, produce the non-stinky instead.

Making home-grown legal would help, fgs we are a nation of gardeners after all. I'd be happy to experiment with a few hybrids to reduce the smell if I didn't risk losing my clean record, house and everything I have in doing so.

Vineyards don't tend to traffick children and lock them into houses to tend their crops. Do what you like to your own body but the social harm caused by drugs is global and buying drugs is supporting all sorts of other crimes.
