…why the fuck not?

Seriously. The number of twats tonight turning in and out of junctions with no signal.

Grrrr.

batfurger · 25/02/2022 19:31

They disturb my dog... he gets upland whines because he thinks we are nearly home...

The only time I don't use them is when there's no one to indicate to...

HangOnToYourself · 25/02/2022 19:35

I also hate those people who indicate after they have already started to pull out into your lane..like cheers it's called an indicator not an "I've already started to manoeuvre alert"

TimeToMakeACupofTea · 25/02/2022 19:36

I find it’s mainly on roundabouts, people tootling around with zero indication about where they’re going to get off.

Justleaveitblankthen · 25/02/2022 19:36

Oh, my pet peeve 🤬
Absolutely bloody infuriating - especially when the twats are taking a liberty changing lanes at the last minute in front of you! I get this all the time.
I have a horn and a dash cam (front and rear) and I'm not afraid to use them 😎

Usually because they are following the sat nav instead of the road IME. Then they suddenly pull off when they realise which is their exit
TooBored1 · 25/02/2022 19:38

Oh God yes. It's even worse if you are a pedestrian - apparently we don't need to know if the car is turning into the road we are crossing?

Georgieporgie29 · 25/02/2022 19:42

Oh I agree, and just because you think there’s no one around there could be a pedestrian wanting to cross or a car that wants to come out of a drive but is waiting for a gap. It’s infuriating and it’s getting worse!

Chely · 25/02/2022 19:43

Depends... if there's nobody around, nope.
If others would benefit from it then yes.

In the new Highway Code it doesn't matter as you automatically have right of way...

And remember, however pointless you think your life is, there are people who spend all day putting indicators onto BMWs.

Merryoldgoat · 25/02/2022 19:44

I’ve decided it’s the marker of a cunt.

And obviously it doesn’t matter if no one is around. I’m talking about rush hour in London.

inheritancetrack · 25/02/2022 19:46

It's really annoying. My instructor said, you paid for them so you might as well use them. He also said you know where you want to go, so don't keep other drivers in the dark. He got me passed first time 😀

inheritancetrack · 25/02/2022 19:47

Oh, you're in London. Say no more. You're stuffed

TheSilveryTinsellyPussycat · 25/02/2022 19:48

I always indicate whether there's anyone around or not. There may be someone I haven't noticed, but I also think it is good practice to do it every time so I never have to think "shall I?"

ginandbearit · 25/02/2022 19:50

Optional extras on BMW and Audis it seems ...telepathy and precognition came with my 13yr old Focus ..and working indicators ..

Yeahbutnotreally · 25/02/2022 19:50

I’m forever mouthing ‘fucking indicate’ at people coming off the roundabout where I’m waiting to get on. I hope they lip read so they make more of an effort next time.

I’d actually rather have no indication than those drivers who have their left indicator on constantly and just sail past multiple exists before finally deciding to get off.

The worst is when the car in front pretty much brakes to a halt and then flicks their indicator on at the last second as they then begin to pull into a side road.

katseyes7 · 25/02/2022 20:02

My driving instructor taught me to 'always use them, whether there's anybody else about or not, then you won't cause an accident' and l do.
Even if it's after midnight and there's not a soul or a car to be seen. It's just automatic to me now. I passed my test first time and l've been driving 30 years this year.
There are an awful lot of people on our roads who seem to think the rest of us are telepathic, though.

balalake · 25/02/2022 20:04

About 25% of those on the road should not have a licence, in my opinion. Some are for medical reasons, the OP has provided yet another reason to remove those who should be for their conduct on the road.

Merryoldgoat · 25/02/2022 20:06

And then THEY get indignant. Arseholes.

OP posts:
BlusteryLake · 25/02/2022 20:07

Related to this - how can people possibly fail to notice their indicator is still on after they have turned? It drives me insane when people are driving along signalling left or right but not actually moving. How do they not notice the noise?

hellithurt · 25/02/2022 20:08

But they make that awful ticking noise!

Calm down, angry drivers are the worst drivers. IMO.

Merryoldgoat · 25/02/2022 20:10

I am calm. Just annoyed and frustrated.

OP posts:
MaryBeardsShoes · 25/02/2022 20:10

And what about the people who don't indicate but flash their lights to tell you it's safe to go (ie before turning off at a roundabout) 🤣

Crackercrazy · 25/02/2022 20:12

I totally get you. This is a bug bear of mine too. I’ve encountered plenty of drivers (as a driver/cyclist/pedestrian) who don’t feel the need to, bloody frustrating.
