…why the fuck not?

Seriously. The number of twats tonight turning in and out of junctions with no signal.

Grrrr.

You're taught not to use them in advanced driving if no one is around to indicate to. Made my head hurt learning that.

TooBored1 · 25/02/2022 20:13

Sadly it seems not many round here have ever read the Highway Code, let alone the new rules.

Easy to forget
How? I literally don’t understand how you forget.

How? Surely it's automatic? MSM?
Creeeper · 25/02/2022 20:15

I was honestly going to post this very thread myself

Why are there so many people unable to indicate?! It’s always at the roundabouts near me where I’m waiting to get on and they decide to turn off at the exit I’m waiting for

JadeSeahorse · 25/02/2022 20:16

@TheSilveryTinsellyPussycat

I always indicate whether there's anyone around or not. There may be someone I haven't noticed, but I also think it is good practice to do it every time so I never have to think "shall I?"
This!

I do exactly the same but my DH is a nightmare.

According to him he only needs to indicate if someone else is there. Why not just flaming indicate??? Drives me nuts!
Thank God we're not in London.

Yeah. The lady in the Nissan deffo wasn’t an advanced driver. Neither was the man in the Range Rover.

How would you know that no one is around? You can’t always see pedestrians dressed in black, for example?
WetLookKnitwear · 25/02/2022 20:20

It’s not automatic for me.

Darbs76 · 25/02/2022 20:20

This happens on our school run every single day. I wouldn’t dream of not using indicators

Darbs76 · 25/02/2022 20:21

If it’s not automatic or you forget maybe you should consider hanging your keys up. It’s pretty essential

Borridge · 25/02/2022 20:22

It’s international. Looking at you Frankfurt drivers!

WetLookKnitwear · 25/02/2022 20:22

I rarely forget to be honest

WhoWants2Know · 25/02/2022 20:23

This week, it's because I'm in a borrowed car with the indicator and wiper levers on the wrong side. So I keep cleaning my windscreen at people.

hellithurt · 25/02/2022 20:25

@Merryoldgoat

I am calm. Just annoyed and frustrated.
You really don't sound calm..... and that's after the event(s).
JayAlfredPrufrock · 25/02/2022 20:25

Gives me the bloody rage.

And those saying don’t use them if no one is around, seriously? Should be an automatic response.

So many drivers don’t bother using them for pedestrians and horses. Grrr.

Babyvenusplant · 25/02/2022 20:26

So frustrating if you're sat at a roundabout waiting for a oncoming car to pass and then they take the exit before you 😡 They can clearly see you're waiting for them and still don't bother to indicate

Whitefire · 25/02/2022 20:28

Can I just post in defence of BMW'S.

There is a design feature fault that means the indicator stick doesn't actually move, it works by just touching it, if you don't do it quite right you only get the three quick flashes if anything. They also don't go off quite right. Thankfully I don't drive it often (despite it being mine) and I always use my indicator in the Audi.

StarsAndSugarlumps · 25/02/2022 20:29

Oh I don’t use them!

I don’t like the noise, and I don’t want to wear the bulbs out.

And I can use the electricity I’m saving from not using them to turn my radio up louder Smile

Also, if other people can tell what I am going to do then they might take advantage of it. Like, they might move into the lane I want to use before I can get there.

Plus, they are really complicated! I don’t understand why it is down for left and up for right? Shouldn’t it be left for left? Why would I want to indicate up?

But I do think they are great for when you just want to pop into a shop! Or if you need to stop somewhere to take a phone call? Then you can use them both at the same time by using the big red triangle button.

Merryoldgoat · 25/02/2022 20:29

When I changed cars I kept swishing instead of flashing the lights for a few days.

You make really good points actually. That sounds like a much better way to use them.
