McDonalds.

It's McDonalds. Not MacDonalds. Has always been McDonalds as far as I can tell. Everyone calls it McDonalds. Except on Mumsnet. Why? And AIBU for finding it absolutely infuriating? It is one of the biggest brands in the world and whether or not you eat there surely it's not that difficult so spell it correctly?

We call it Mickey D’s. I’m surprised not to have seen that one so far.

MintyGreenDream · 20/02/2022 20:22

It's maccy d's

mumda · 20/02/2022 20:38

But it's maccy dees.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 20/02/2022 20:38

I wonder why it's a 'Big Mac' rather than a 'Big Mc'?

maras2 · 20/02/2022 20:54

This way to Pedants Corner >>>>>>>

LetHimHaveIt · 20/02/2022 21:13

Given that it's a brand much more readily-identifiable by its 'M'/'Golden Arches' logo than its full name, I don't think you'd have to be a 'thicko' to misspell it 'MacDonald's', no 🙄 The popular nursery song happens to be 'Old MacDonald' but I wouldn't have a conniption fit if someone mistakenly thought it was the virtually identical (especially when spoken) 'Old McDonald'. That sort of thing isn't where I draw the 'thicko' line, weirdly. I know where is . . .

It's called a 'Big Mac' or 'Maccy D's' because it's expedient to insert a vowel for pronunciation and marketing reasons, obviously.

Possibly 'Mickey Ds' is a corruption of the 'Mc', which acknowledges the absence of an 'a'.

But actually, if you'd ask someone who'd never encountered the chain to supply a guess at the Scottish-sounding name of a burger restaurant whose biggest seller is the 'Big Mac', they'd surely be more likely to say 'MacDonald's' and not 'McDonald's'.

There. I think I've overthought that enough.

You beat me to it but added a missing comma (or semi-colon) after 'No' and missing full-stop after 'Corner'.

MintyFreshBreath · 20/02/2022 21:43

TAAT?

Classica · 20/02/2022 21:43

In Glasgow Asda is called...The Asda.

As though it's the Taj Mahal or something.

EvenPhilip · 20/02/2022 21:46

It wasn't about full stops and commas though.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 20/02/2022 21:49

@EvenPhilip

It wasn't about full stops and commas though.
Sorry, my mistake. Was it just about apostrophes then? Grin

Actually, as a Scottish person, if I hear a Mc/Mac name and would need to know the spelling, I’d ask is it Mac or Mc.

LetHimHaveIt · 20/02/2022 22:08

Cool. Not really what I said.

KneadingKitty · 20/02/2022 22:08

No. I hate Asdas etc in the same way.
