That it wasn't funny 20 yrs ago and it still isn't funny now?

We play pool. Dh thinks it hilarious to make a stupid fart sound when I bend over and it winds me up no end. It wasn't funny in the pub 20 years ago, juvenile in the extreme, and it isn't funny 20 years layer at home. Like who is he trying to impress and get a laugh from? He knows it pisses me off then sulks when I pull him up on it, saying I have hated that joke since we met, knock it off? Just crass.

The idiot probably thinks you secretly love it

Luckyelephant1 · 19/02/2022 21:40

Is he doing it to you in front of other people, in which case that's quite mean.

If it's just the two of you then YABU. Lighten up a little or do the same to him but much louder. I personally would find it quite funny but me and DH do silly things like that anyway.

1000yellowdaisies · 19/02/2022 21:41

I had an ex who would thrust behind me whenever i bent over in his vicinity and find himself absolutely hilarious. It was so stupid. YANBU anyone would find that so so annoying and childlike especially as youve said you don't find it funny after all these years.

He’s not listening to you. YANBU.

Btw not the point but you have a pool table at home? Cool!

StormTreader · 19/02/2022 21:56

The first time he does it, put the pool cue down and leave. That's it for pool for at least an hour.
The only way they learn is to take their toys away.

CrypticCode · 19/02/2022 22:02

Glad I am not the only one who would find it annoying. I think it's worse as I have said SO many times that it isn't funny. And yes, it's that he just isn't listening.

I get it if you and your partner are into those sorts of jokes, but I have never found toilet humour funny and he knows that.

@LemonViolet we met playing pool, the teens play pool so instead of a holiday during lockdowns we converted the dining room we never used and got one. It was kind of a splurge but has meaning for us, iyswim?

He sounds like a child

DrSbaitso · 19/02/2022 22:05

Maybe funny once, 20 years ago. Definitely not any more. He's been told enough and you don't need to justify it. You don't like it, that's all that matters. Tell him if he does it again you're putting down the cue and leaving the game, and do it.

Sloth66 · 19/02/2022 22:07

How old is he? Sounds about 14.

Mackmama · 19/02/2022 22:07

I think it sounds quite funny but I do have the sense of humour of a 16 year old boy. I’ll use that one if you don’t mind OP!

Sunnytwobridges · 19/02/2022 22:08

Ugh this sounds like my ex. He is a very juvenile sense of humor which was so unattractive. That would puss me off too

eldora · 19/02/2022 22:09

Get a fart app and do it to him. I BET he won’t like it.

EllaB22 · 19/02/2022 22:09

Ah I am with you OP that would annoy me no end! Just not listening to you.

Dillydollydingdong · 19/02/2022 22:10

Sounds like it's time to threaten dumping the pool table and turning the room into something else

LizzieSiddal · 19/02/2022 22:13

He’s doing it deliberately because he knows it annoys you and it probably puts you off your game.
Invest in a massive bell and ding it every time he bends over to take a shot. Alternatively blow a raspberry or laugh historically.

He sounds like a knob tbh.

CrypticCode · 19/02/2022 22:19

Nothing can put me off my game...I still can't play at any decent level Grin

TuscanApothecary · 19/02/2022 22:19

I think its funny sorry OP, I'm also pinching that joke as I also have a 16yr old boys humour like @Mackmama

Can't you see it as an endearing annoying habit and not let it wind you up. He probably does it more because it gets to you. Join in and start doing it back and he'll soon get bored.

NaiceHamAndHugs · 19/02/2022 22:21

LEAVE THE BASTARD IMMEDIATELY

Wulfenite · 19/02/2022 22:25

Honestly if he kept doing it after being repeatedly told it pisses you off I wouldn't be able to "lighten up" about it and don't think you should have to either. I think that could be quite belittling if done repeatedly against your wishes.

DrSbaitso · 19/02/2022 22:27

But it's not endearing. Doubtless he thinks it is, but the person who decides whether it's endearing is the person to whom the joker is trying to endear himself. If you do something and it doesn't endear you to your target, then it is not endearing.

And why should it be? At best, it's just a joke, but it's a joke at OP's expense so she's the one gets to decide if it's hurtful or upsetting or not. 20 years of being told she hates it hasn't stopped the tool, so why would he suddenly give up if she starts encouraging it?

He knows she hates it and doesn't care. He hasn't stopped in 20 years so really the only thing OP can do is refuse to be involved in any situation where he does it. That means not playing with him. Which is sad, but as I teach my five year old: if you're horrible to your playmates, and they don't find you funny and endearing even if you think they should, they won't play with you.

WonderfulYou · 19/02/2022 22:28

YABU
Honestly it’s not that big of a deal.
Just ignore it.

Chances are he knows it irritates you which is why he’s been doing it for 20 years.
I laughed when I read your OP because it’s such a silly thing to get wound up about and so I wonder if he thinks the same.

I can see a joke getting boring after 20 years but I would try just not acknowledging it and see if he gets bored.

Heytheredemons · 19/02/2022 22:29

Everytime he does it, actually fart at him, see how he likes that.

He'll soon stop as men seem to get highly embarrassed as female farts

WinterBaby131 · 19/02/2022 22:34

Hes a tit
