That it wasn't funny 20 yrs ago and it still isn't funny now?

We play pool. Dh thinks it hilarious to make a stupid fart sound when I bend over and it winds me up no end. It wasn't funny in the pub 20 years ago, juvenile in the extreme, and it isn't funny 20 years layer at home. Like who is he trying to impress and get a laugh from? He knows it pisses me off then sulks when I pull him up on it, saying I have hated that joke since we met, knock it off? Just crass.

@TuscanApothecary

I think its funny sorry OP, I'm also pinching that joke as I also have a 16yr old boys humour like *@Mackmama*

Can't you see it as an endearing annoying habit and not let it wind you up. He probably does it more because it gets to you. Join in and start doing it back and he'll soon get bored.

I just find humour like that puerile and irritating. Not offensive, just childish and unfunny.
ShittyFingers · 19/02/2022 23:23

@eldora I said we both found it funny, not just DH - I found it funnier than he did to be fair but he still manages to raise a smile. I’ll let him know he’s to have no opinion on it 😂

DropYourSword · 19/02/2022 23:41

Buy an air horn.

Don't let him know.

Next time he bends over to take a shot...you know what to do!

I’m so sorry had to tell my husband (he plays pool) and we both laughed don’t know why , I’m laughing out loud with it …but I get you on something you find annoying I would expect him to stop when it’s no longer funny . I’m no help sorry I’m still laughing .

Alexandra83190 · 19/02/2022 23:43

If you are playing against him, he is doing it to put you off your game. If you are playing doubles and he's on your side, he is afraid you are a better player and will show him up in front of the opposition, so makes a "joke" to knock you off your stride.

It's actually not a joke at all.
I bet he doesn't do it to anyone else, like another man for example - out in a pub against a serious pool player - he would get cracked. It's disrespectful.

Definitely do this! GrinGrinGrin
spotcheck · 20/02/2022 00:12

Right. This is what you do.

Get his phone... Change the ringtone for your calls to a giant squelchy fart sound.

Make sure he has his phone in his back pocket. When he bends over to grab a can of baked beans.....

spotcheck · 20/02/2022 00:13

( even better if you do that in Tesco)

Theunamedcat · 20/02/2022 00:39

It's been 20 years why hasn't he got a new joke

Jewel52 · 20/02/2022 01:04

Think this is the kind of joke that you either appreciate or don’t as you see from your replies. I hate slapstick humour so it’d also do my head in Angry

TheMoth · 20/02/2022 01:05

I would ltb over this. I can forgive a lot, but not a shit sense of humour.

Feedingthebirds1 · 20/02/2022 01:28

@ShittyFingers

I think it’s funny 😂 so does DH (I’ve just read your post to him, gave us both a good laugh)
Good for you. Maybe it is if it's only once or twice, or when you're just reading about it. Every time you play for 20 years is just tedious.
Namechangenumber23 · 20/02/2022 01:38

As he obviously finds it so hilarious try playing this when he walks around anywhere and everywhere.

TuscanApothecary · 20/02/2022 03:13

No offense taken @RampantIvy some of us get to love south Park, poo jokes, the Office type of humour and some don't.

But I do have sympathy for listening to it for 20 years OP, I really like the airhorn idea Grin

LemonViolet · 20/02/2022 07:28

@CrypticCode

Well, we have now established that apparently he didn't know it annoyed me and has said he won't do it anymore Hmm I've only told him literally every time we play. We'll see.
Ah, he’s playing the “I didn’t realise” card is he? My DP “doesn’t realise” a lot as well, or he used to before I started calling him out on it every time he used it, and saying maybe he needed to go to the GP about his memory issues and hearing loss Grin. It’s quite something that your DP “hasn’t realised” in 20 years though.

Can people not see it isn’t about whether the joke is funny or not - that’s a subjective thing - it’s about him not listening to her when she says she dislikes him doing it to her.

Also, I think it’s a brilliant thing to spend your money on during lockdown! And surely you can still stick a board on it and use it as a dining table if need be Smile

notanothertakeaway · 20/02/2022 07:34

It doesn't matter if other people would find it amusing. OP doesn't, and her DH persists in doing it

I would treat it like a toddler tantrum / actions have consequences. Tell him that if he does it again, you'll put your cue down and walk away from the game. And then do it. Every single time. No need for big drama and arguments. Just go and read a book

The novelty of the joke will wear off when (1) he has no audience and (2) he's playing pool on his own

PolkaSpace · 20/02/2022 07:52

He's a nasty shit

What else have you been telling him for 20 years that he either hasn't heard or thinks you don't mean?
CrypticCode · 20/02/2022 11:19

@LemonViolet it comes with a table cover Smile

Thanks everyone for your thoughts!
