Watching dream home makeovers (never seen it before) and they were using wallpaper that costs £185 per roll!! Confused
Do people spend this much on wallpaper? Aibu to think it could be spent on something else? Obviously each to their own and it's your money spend it on what you like but wow I had no idea this was a thing Blush

not if you are Boris and Carrie

balalake · 16/02/2022 19:42

Lord Irvine (Lord Chancellor in the late 90s) I think spent more.

Hoardasurass · 16/02/2022 19:45

The only people who would pay that much per roll has more money than sense

BoodleBug51 · 16/02/2022 19:50

I've just bought a roll of this as we've got a half landing that I wanted to make into a feature wall.........

So yes it is a thing Grin

LunaTheCat · 16/02/2022 19:53

Oh I love Timorous Beasties!

Libertynan · 16/02/2022 19:55

No because I am shit at measuring and matching the patterns so would waste lots of it

This made me laugh because it's exactly my first thought
Gowithme · 16/02/2022 19:58

ChaosMoon · 16/02/2022 20:03

Highest I've gone is £120 but I'd go higher for the right paper, in the right scheme.

I think the money we spent on wallpapers (all walks in the kitchen, bedroom and downstairs loo, ceiling in the living room) was 100% worth it and I love them every all over again every time I walk into a different room.

LollyLol · 16/02/2022 20:06

I don't mean to be rude, but the wallpaper at Timorous beasties had better look an awful lot better in real life than it does online.

I hope, if I stray to far from the aisle of B&Q with the low-toxicity paint, someone will haul me away. Fancy expensive wallpaper, ugh!

MasterBeth · 16/02/2022 20:06

Depends what you’re doing, doesn’t it.

If you spending tens of thousands on, say, a new extension, two or three rolls of frighteningly expensive wallpaper may not be crazy.

If you’re doing up the spare room with cheap carpet and a trip to IKEA, not so much.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 16/02/2022 20:06

We’ve gone to a similar price but it was just for one wall which took three ‘rolls’…it would have cost a fortune for 4 walls!!!

LBOCS2 · 16/02/2022 20:07

I have House of Hackney wallpaper in our sitting room and downstairs loo, which I love. Usual price is between £125-185 a roll but I got it at a sample sale so I did not spend that sort of money on it!

Woah! BOLD patterns! Presumably you are only purchasing it for a feature wall so won’t need that much?

EmmaStone · 16/02/2022 20:16

I paid about £100 roll for papering our downstairs loo. We only needed 2 rolls, and we didn't need to do any other decoration. The room was transformed.

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/02/2022 20:17

Friends of mine paid just shy of £70k for hand painted paper for their bedroom and their hall/stairs/landing......thats more than my house cost!

CharacterForming · 16/02/2022 20:17

@balalake

Lord Irvine (Lord Chancellor in the late 90s) I think spent more.
That was a hand printed bespoke replica of the Pugin original though. Those rooms are an actual historic masterpiece open to visitors, not my sitting room in a Clapham terrace.

I take the point of people who say that four hundred quid on an eye catching feature wall as the finishing touch to a fifty grand extension suddenly seems more reasonable in context. Not what I'd choose but then other people might blanch at the bill for my sofa fabric.

Eek! What happens if they move will they peel it off?
StoneofDestiny · 16/02/2022 20:21

Yes love the timorous beasties stuff.
We bought a house that had super expensive wallpaper in 3 rooms - eye watering money. However, none was to my taste and the colours not for me. I got it all stripped off.

titchy · 16/02/2022 20:21

This is why people have feature walls Wink

grey12 · 16/02/2022 20:25

Depends, once saw one in a programme that was gorgeous! They did an amazing feature wall

Kenworthington · 16/02/2022 20:27

My friends house is papered top to bottom (every single room, inc the utility), in House of hackney wallpapers. It’s incredible, in a very maximalist way, but, I should imagine, eye wateringly costy. I couldn’t risk going off ut!

yoyo1234 · 16/02/2022 20:28

Timorous Beasties is art work, worth the price. I would love to able to afford to wallpaper freely (okay get professional painters/decorators round so I don't muck up).

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/02/2022 20:34

@Penvelopey No idea! Mind you, to put it into perspective they are rich enough to own a 7 bedroom Georgian detached place in chelsea on a big plot so its not the same as a 3 up/2 down terrace like my place!
