Noisy DIY?

Is it acceptable at 10am on a Sunday morning? Don't have the best relationship with next door so don't know if I'm being unreasonable but it seems ridiculous to me that someone would be hammering the walls at 10 am on a Sunday morning?! OH also works nights though I know this isn't their problem.

What do you think?

I get why it's annoying, but 10am isn't an unsociable hour and it's not like they're doing DIY to piss you off....

I'd say 8am or even 9am on a Sunday is maybe unreasonable but not 10am

Shiningpath · 13/02/2022 10:13

Totally normal.

Brefugee · 13/02/2022 10:14

Thank goodness i live in a country with official quiet hours and this isn't allowed.

GirlInACountrySong · 13/02/2022 10:16

Sounds like they are putting up a few shelves/wall mounted items

Won't go on for too long

10am isn't early!

Rabbitheadlights · 13/02/2022 10:22

Happy to accept I'm being unreasonable. I just wouldn't dream of making such noise before lunchtime on a Sunday.

Chely · 13/02/2022 10:25

Our kids make more noise before 10am so yes I would be fine with it.

Rabbitheadlights · 13/02/2022 10:31

@Chely more noise than hammering walls? Really? Mine don't and would be in trouble if they did.

I can currently hear next door noisily sawing and banging. I can live with it at this time of the day, so I’ll have to say YABU.

I do sometimes wonder how next door can have any DIY left to do. They are always at it!

Chely · 13/02/2022 10:40

We have 6 of them so yeah they can get noisy when they are playing.

londonrach · 13/02/2022 10:42

Perfect ok from 10am..DH waited till then before doing the shelves in our kitchen

TeaRex49 · 13/02/2022 10:43

10am is perfectly normal and ok. Most people only have weekends off, if they waited until after lunch time to make noise they’d never get anything done.

gillybean2 · 13/02/2022 10:46

Your local council will confirm the hours for noisy building work (check their website). It’s 10am on a Sunday here. I know because my neighbour woke the whole street at 7am one Sunday and tried to convince me it was allowed when I complained.

Rabbitheadlights · 13/02/2022 10:47

Thanks all, accepted ... Maybe I won't be so hard on the kids making noise from now on.

DiddyHeck · 13/02/2022 10:48

10am is absolutely fine.

Inspectorslack · 13/02/2022 10:49

10am I would consider ok. Not before that On a Sunday and not before 9 on a Saturday.

RitaFires · 13/02/2022 10:50

On Sundays I try and wait until closer to lunch time but I don't necessarily expect other people to do that. I understand that people sometimes have a limited window to get stuff done and I'd rather hear them early than at night.

That said, I had an awful neighbour who made DIY noises at any time of day and when he put his house up for sale I had a look at the pictures online. I have no idea what he was doing all that time because there were very little changes to his house, from all the noise I endured I was expecting a lot more.

Ifailed · 13/02/2022 10:54

I don't understand the relevance of Sunday, it's not like we all traipse off to church anymore?

YouBoggleMyMind · 13/02/2022 10:55

My neighbour was drilling at 8:15 this morning... I feel your pain. Supposedly 10am - 2pm is acceptable DIY hours on a Sunday.

Inspectorslack · 13/02/2022 10:55

It’s one day if the week I can get a lie in. My life is structured that way due to Sunday trading rules.

Hence I like to be able to lie on if I can

torquewench · 13/02/2022 10:55

My arsehole neighbours have been building their massive extension since August. Planning permission specifically states no audible works to be carried out on Sundays. Someone's been hammering away on their driveway since 8am. And the gobshite's just now opened and slammed his van's sliding door 18 times in succession for no apparent reason. Fuckers.

Rabbitheadlights · 13/02/2022 10:58

i think my judgement is probably clouded by the fact that OH has only been asleep for a couple of hours and our house is naturally quieter through the day to accommodate that.

I know! It's a normal working day for many of us

My days off are often midweek.... when come 8am the streets come alive with shrieking school kids!

Rabbitheadlights · 13/02/2022 11:01

@youbogglemymind you have my sympathies

@torquewench .... I agree they are fuckers!

Some of us do and for most it’s a day off work.

GirlInACountrySong · 13/02/2022 11:10

Not a day off for most at all

Retail
Entertainment
Emergency services
Care/nhs staff

Just another day
