Please help me a friend said she would like to go to the cinema as part of her birthday and I am the only one that is available that day. How am I going to get through this worst nightmare I really hate the thought of it. Any suggestions should I go to sleep or nip to the loo every 5 minutes

You really need to say why the cinema is such an anathema to you for this to make any sense.

Confused

Have you left out a major piece of the story OP?

You wouldn't really do that to a mate would you? If you can't bear the cinema, just don't go- suggest something else

They’ve left out almost all of it!
Shiningpath · 12/02/2022 16:02

Are you scared of the dark?

hopeishere · 12/02/2022 16:03

Don't keep nipping to the loo. Very irritating for anyone else in the cinema!!

I'm not a huge fan of the cinema but if there was a film a friend wanted to see I'd be happy to go. What's problem here?

Absolutely this. Why go if you're not going to enjoy yourself and if fact make the experience uncomfortable for your supposed friend at the very least. Either suggest a different day so other people can attend or say the cinema really isn't for you what about a X, Y or Z? Or unless you genuinely have a fear around the cinema just suck it up for a maximum for 3 hours (assuming a 2.5 hour movie plus adverts) for a friend.
suckingonchillidogs · 12/02/2022 16:06

Hit the bar before and try to pass out?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/02/2022 16:07

Don't be a dick. not to your friend and certainly not to the other people paying out for seats.

Tell them you've just had a medical appointment come through for that day.

Chikapu · 12/02/2022 16:08

Buy a bag of Maltesers and a tiny coke at the concession stand, when they ask you for £27.50 faint and have to be carried outside. Take your time coming round and it'll be pointless going back in.

MiddleClassProblem · 12/02/2022 16:09

What is it that you hate?

LubaLuca · 12/02/2022 16:09

What's your problem with the cinema?

ladydimitrescu · 12/02/2022 16:09

Why don't you want to go? You'd be better not going than being rude and sleeping or going to the toilet constantly. Not only rude to your friend but irritating as hell to the other people who have paid to see the film.

NoneOfYour32Potatoes · 12/02/2022 16:10

Are you cinema phobic?

Figgygal · 12/02/2022 16:10

Eh?

That’s the only way I can fathom this one out too Confused
sparepantsandtoothbrush · 12/02/2022 16:21

My OH would be the same as you OP. People pleaser so would go as it's a friend's birthday and what they want to do. But he wouldn't enjoy it! People eating, slurping, whispering and him not being in control of the volume of being able to pause it when he needs the loo are all contributors!

He would probably go with the falling asleep option

cuno · 12/02/2022 16:27

I love going to the cinema... haven't been in ages, mind. But if I knew my friend didn't like it, then I would rather know so we can plan something else. No biggie, can go to the cinema with someone else.

stitchmaker85 · 12/02/2022 16:28

What's so bad about it? Apart from the extortionate cost I love the cinema.
Please don't get up for the loo lots of times you'll ruin it for everyone else (and your friend!)

LouLou198 · 12/02/2022 16:29

I would love that!! Even if it's not your thing, can you not just suck it up for a couple of hours for the benefit of your friend?
