Please help me a friend said she would like to go to the cinema as part of her birthday and I am the only one that is available that day. How am I going to get through this worst nightmare I really hate the thought of it. Any suggestions should I go to sleep or nip to the loo every 5 minutes

Is going to the cinema a euphemism for something, because I’m not really getting the issue.

AuntyJanet · 12/02/2022 16:31

I hate the cinema. The seats are uncomfortable (even the "premium") ones and most of the time the film bores me by about half way through and I'm just willing it to end.

That said, I would suck it up for a friend for 3ish hours. Maybe a nice meal to look forward to afterwards?

SmellinOfTroy · 12/02/2022 16:36

er what?

girlmom21 · 12/02/2022 16:51

I used to hate the cinema. It send my anxiety crazy because of my triggers.

Now I go alone to the baby cinema clubs (I obviously have a baby) and really enjoy it.

betwixtlives · 12/02/2022 16:51

wtf

southlondoner02 · 12/02/2022 16:53

Have you missed out that she wants to see a horror film and you scare easily OP?

WonderfulYou · 12/02/2022 16:54

Huh?! Confused

If you don’t want to go just say no.

Opus17 · 12/02/2022 16:59

🤔

LottyD32 · 12/02/2022 17:00

Another 'what's wrong with the cinema'? Confused

Queenkarm · 12/02/2022 17:02

The noise it is always so loud and I cannot always follow the plot I have to rewind several times when watching a film at home. I did say it was lighthearted of course I will not keep nipping to the loo. But I like the idea of fainting at the cost or hitting the bar first lol

What is it you don't like about the cinema? I would love that as a birthday activity! It's fine if it's not your preference, but I wouldn't assume everyone finds it a trial. Since others can't make it, why not suggest going for lunch/nice tea and cake cafe trip on the day and helpfully suggest the cinema trip another day when the others can make it, and you can skip that part?

how did you expect anyone here to know that you find the noise too loud and can’t concentrate Confused
Stressedout1009 · 12/02/2022 17:09

I hate the cinema too op. I find it so mindless sitting there, feels like I could be doing a million other things with my time. But for a friend whose birthday
it is, I would do it.

EmmaH2022 · 12/02/2022 17:13

It sounds like you should have just said no

But in terms of noise...I actually wore earplugs the last time I took mum to the cinema and could hear the film no problem!
Some places do tend to be louder than others.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 12/02/2022 17:14

You may prefer the autism friendly screenings if they do them at your local cinema.

Wonnle · 12/02/2022 17:22

Simple , don't go !

sanbeiji · 12/02/2022 17:22

Produce a positive LFT. Problem solved.

ApolloandDaphne · 12/02/2022 17:30

What are you going to see?

NeedAHoliday2021 · 12/02/2022 17:30

What film is it? I can’t remember ever rewinding a film because I’m not following the plot, you must be a nightmare to watch films with. Just buy a drink and popcorn and then sit and eat drink through the films enjoying the pretty colours in front of you.

ThePlumVan · 12/02/2022 17:30

Offer to go to a nice pub or wine bar instead - be kind to your friend on her BD, it’s horrible being let down like this and she’s probably already feeling a bit shit.

Leftbutcameback · 12/02/2022 17:34

Have every sympathy with you about the noise - far far too loud. Suggest you avoid the adds and trailers and go and see something fun and short!

Qwill · 12/02/2022 17:37

Oh yes, definitely get up every 5mins. Why not take something really smelly and noisy to eat? Maybe talk loudly throughout the whole film or take a call on your phone. Your friend will be overwhelmed with gratitude that you are making such an effort to enjoy her birthday for a couple of hours.

SomeOwlsCoo · 12/02/2022 17:44

I'm not surprised you can't follow the story I you go to the toilet every 5 mins Grin

Seriously though. What films do you watch that are so complex you can't follow?
I agree about the volume though.

T00Ts · 12/02/2022 17:47

Well, I’m sorry you seem to struggle to follow plots of films and wee a lot, but I love the cinema. Especially now they make them nice and cold. A big loud film and lots of sweet popcorn and coke all to myself. Very enjoyable.
