Please help me a friend said she would like to go to the cinema as part of her birthday and I am the only one that is available that day. How am I going to get through this worst nightmare I really hate the thought of it. Any suggestions should I go to sleep or nip to the loo every 5 minutes

Bizarre..

Take foam earplugs / pay attention / don’t go to the loo or get drunk bf hand, this is why you can’t follow the plot 💡

Hoppinggreen · 12/02/2022 17:50

You know how you struggle to follow film plots?
That’s how a lot of us feel about your posts

Lovemusic33 · 12/02/2022 17:59

I’m not a huge cinema fan unless it’s something that really interests me, pretty sure I have ADHD (not diagnosed) as I can’t sit through a whole film, like you OP I find it hard to follow and my attention span is pretty poor. My dd2 loves the cinema so I have to take her occasionally to see a film that I have no interest in, I find it noisy but I have learnt to enjoy it, mainly because I enjoy eating pop corn and sweets 😬.

I think if your friend wants to go for her birthday then you should go to make her happy, the same as me going to make dd happy. Get yourself some good snacks, pretend your taking it all in and just be there for your friend.

I hate really loud cinema sound too. You can buy part noise cancelling earbuds that reduce the sound without cancelling it

Leftbutcameback · 12/02/2022 18:25

I know this isn't the point of the thread but the level of the noise is just crappy - does anyone love it being that loud? Really?

FlasherMcGruff · 12/02/2022 18:30

You can go to autism friendly screenings which have the noise lowered. If you’d find that embarrassing, book it ‘by accident’. Otherwise, your options are really only to discreetly pop very light ear plugs in (you’ll still be able to hear it) or not go.

FlasherMcGruff · 12/02/2022 18:32

^ and before anyone accuses me of saying that I find autism embarrassing, I do not. I am referring to the OP finding it awkward and embarrassing to explain the reasons to a friend.

Queenkarm · 12/02/2022 18:55

I said it was lighthearted

You should be honest with her OP.
I know it's 'lighthearted', but there's no reason why she MUST see a film on her birthday. You're there for convenience as the 'only one available', not because she wants to celebrate with friends.

The only reason to go to the cinema with someone is to chat about the film after. You can't do that if you keep losing the plot, so why bother going anyway?

Last time i went it was to see James Bond and i ended up tearing up an old tissue i had in my bag and making myself a pair of ear plugs! ShockHmm Never had to do that before.

DH was all eye rolly next to me but by half way through he asked me to make him a pair ...

Way too bloody loud!

ShittyFingers · 13/02/2022 17:58

We don’t do light hearted around these parts OP … I’m afraid you must be hung, drawn and quartered immediately!

Ahem … so yeah I’m similar to you, I find the noise too much, bastards going backwards and forwards to toilets, people talking, packets rattling, phones flashing … I always feel like screaming “shut the fuck up everyone and watch the film!!!”

Maybe suggest something else? Say you have a bad back and won’t manage to sit that long
