To ask where you got your colourful wedding dress?

I’m getting married this summer. Civil ceremony, then a seated three course meal, followed by a big, messy party. Maximalist colour scheme, lots of booze, hopefully general good times.

We’re not at all traditional, and I’d like a bright colourful showstopper of a dress. Has anyone bought anything similar recently? Where did you buy it? Any designers you would recommend?

Arinder Bhullar in Leicester. She has some beautiful designs in her shop window at the moment.

Do you want an actual wedding dress style, or just a bright beautiful dress? What's your general style?

Boho/hippy
Rockabilly
Elegant/clean lines
Art Deco/30's
..........

Indian Lehenga shops sell custom made and ready wedding dresses too. That’s why she recommended them. Lehenga is just one cultural dress. You can find wedding dresses of all varieties too. Probably the only places where you can get good wedding appropriate, coloured, items you can rewear.

The Curry Mile in Rusholme, Manchester. I wore a beautiful white sari with gold and silver detail then had it made into a more easily worn dress after the wedding.

AutomaticMoon · 08/02/2022 21:46

If there’s a white one you like the look of, you could dye it yourself, dip dye, gradient, etc

AutomaticMoon · 08/02/2022 21:47

OMG, so sorry for the super long link!

Just a beautiful, colourful dress. More red carpet evening gown than ‘wedding’, perhaps.

My style has been described as ‘glam hipster’, which isn’t much of a steer. Grin I’m thinking this sort of thing.

If you are not going for a traditional white dress, then basically anything goes.

Evening or ball dress style? Something like www.bombshellhq.com styles or vintage style www.collectiflondon.com/en/Womens-Fitted-Dresses/c-114.aspx?

I wonder from your user name if you would want anything reflecting an African heritage? You could get something amazing made to measure using wax print fabric, perhaps.

Sweetlikejollof · 08/02/2022 21:56

@AutomaticMoon That’s really lovely. A bit more weddingy than I had in mind, but thank you!

@Sweetlikejollof Oh I see, the needle and thread one I linked is not so wedding-y

@exexpat Excellent catch on the name! Yes to African heritage. There will be outfit changes afoot, so this is for the non traditional (as in, my traditional) outfit. If you see what I mean?

Okay, you’ve now made me spiral on needle and thread. I love this: www.needleandthread.com/products/genevieve-ruffle-gown-deep-red-fuchsia

Not sure if it’s ‘special’ enough for a wedding, but I might just buy it. For having. Smile

Net a porter or the Outnet - there's a one shoulder red dress on the Outnet at the moment that would be my number one choice if I were getting married!
