Do any of you have a pet that you actually just can't fucking stand?

My cat. Approx 11 years old and counting! Wink I've had him for a decade. A part of me does love him, but he's a knob and lessens my quality of life rather than add anything to it. He's so whiney and food obsessed and I am seldom able to sleep the whole night through because of him.
When he departs I shall be sad, but I won't miss him, and there will be relief in a way.
He has a wonderful life here with us, and I won't give him away, because he's old and is our responsibility.
Have you ever had a love/hate relationship with a family pet?

Yes, my cat was a knob too!
Im not sure how many years it was before she slept through the night, but the baby only took 2 months yet there I was getting up every night for a cat!

Want2beme · 07/02/2022 00:13

He's not that old. He could live another 10 years. I've had 2 that lived to 20Grin. I've got 3 and understand how restricting life can be with them. As long as you give him a good life. He's not a knob, he's just a characterful cat!

toastfiend · 07/02/2022 00:15

Yes, my dog.

In actuality, I adore her. She had a spinal stroke a few years ago and was completely paralysed for a while. I honestly thought we were going to lose her and I was completely devastated. She's fine now, mildly wonky but otherwise you'd never know anything had happened.

Day to day, though, she drives me up the bloody wall. She bays and howls whenever she's excited (and she's extremely excitable) and it's such a fucking awful noise that someone genuinely came rushing over thinking she'd been hit by a car and seriously injured when we were out walking a few weeks ago. She steals food constantly (she once ate a coriander plant when we'd moved everything else out of her reach), she's randomly destructive, she's banned from most of my dog-friendly friends' houses basically because the force of her personality is just too much, she took an age to housetrain and her antics have cost me around £10k in vet bills in the past 6 years. My other dog, by contrast, is an angel (and he's a breed that's meant to be stubborn and hard to train!) 🤷‍♀️

I will be very, very sad when she dies because she is a loving, protective dog who we all adore, my toddler especially, but aspects of my life will be a lot less stressful and easier to manage without her around.

BobHadBitchTits · 07/02/2022 00:15

One of my husbands cats was an absolute bitch. A right nasty little fucker.

I did cry when we had to have her put down, though.

FelicityBeedle · 07/02/2022 00:16

My bloody fish, I wish I could pass them along to someone else but DP considers that the same as giving up any other pet for adoption and NOT OK. They take up so much room and so much effort

gwenneh · 07/02/2022 00:19

We have two perfectly normal cats and one that is an absolute goblin.
I love him and can't stand him at the same time!

purpleme12 · 07/02/2022 00:21

No I have never felt like that
Poor cat

NeverDropYourMooncup · 07/02/2022 00:21

Have you had his thyroid function tested recently?

Pumpkinstace · 07/02/2022 00:22

Yes, Sir Bastard Bum (Sebastian)

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 07/02/2022 00:27

Yes, my dickhead of a cat. She seems to either be eating random plastics, scratching glass, scratching the good furniture or trying to trip me up.
The cat home definitely saw me coming when I adopted her and looking back they were incredibly pushy.
She's just too much. Sometimes she can be lovely though, but it's rare.

@FelicityBeedle What kind of fish do you have? I had tropical for years and besides dropping in food and lights on/off daily, it was just an hour weekly for a tank clean. (Out of interest, not disbelieving you)
MrsEricBana · 07/02/2022 00:28

I was just about to say thyroid issues too. When our old cat had hyperthyroidism he whined for food all day even when he'd just been fed (and no I didn't hate him though it was hard caring for him)

Envoitrevisage · 07/02/2022 00:33

One of my dogs. Her temperament is sharp, and I don’t trust her. I love her, and I hate her. I wouldn’t rehome her, she would hate it and it would be too much of a risk. But I don’t like living with her either.

Treesuphooray · 07/02/2022 00:35

Our twat of a cat!
We’ve had him and his sister for about 7 years. He’s an absolute pain and has got much worse over the last couple of years. Likes to poo outside the back door, constantly shouting for food (he eats and eats if allowed) gets mud everywhere, will sit on anything he can find (jumpers, bags, hats), shouts and wakes everyone up. Always always under someone’s feet. His sister is a love, entertains herself happily, pops in and out for food, has her quiet sleeping place.

Seriously, if anyone wants a cat, he’s yours!

Dreading him With the new baby in a few weeks as there will be more stuff for him to try and sit on, someone else for him to wake up.

FelicityBeedle · 07/02/2022 00:36

@ouch321
It’s a 360L tropical tank, it’s the weekly water change and clean that kills me. And I get anxious worrying the tank will burst for no good reason so don’t get pleasure from watching them anymore

Ylvamoon · 07/02/2022 00:39

One of my dogs, also known as diva dog. The bloody thing only sleeps on the bed at night or sofa duringt he day. You lock it in the kitchen, it howls, you look it in the utility room with the other dogs, it howls, not having acess to the whole house when going out for a few hours, yep you guessed it: dog howls!
And don't get me started on the food, as dog food is clearly well beneath her. Or the "revenge pee" if I shut the door in her face!
But then, she is 12 now and somehow she has evaded all attempts of training, professional and otherwise. So we have just given in, but are super strict with the other dogs in the household...
Generally I wish we wouldn't have fallen for the I am a super cute puppy trick when we got her. (Was my first pup, had a string of gratefull rescues before. )

SoosanCarter · 07/02/2022 00:42

My tortoise. He’s a Sex Beast. He lives in a sectioned off part of the garden because he will race over and start trying to mate anyone’s shoes. Bashes my feet and it hurts! Chases the cats and the dog, who is scared of him.
I love him, and wouldn’t rehome him because it’s hard to find good homes for tortoises, and I couldn’t inflict him on anyone else!

JaceLancs · 07/02/2022 01:03

Yes although hate is far too strong!
We have 2 Dcats
Older cat belonged to DD who has moved out and cannot take as her DP is allergic but Dcat hates females anyway!
Dcat loves DS and he lives here and adores Dcat
However Dcat hates me and regularly swipes me, bites me and gives me evils
Also hates and torments Dcat 2 who I am g besotted with
We all work round it though!
DS it hoping to move out fairly soon and I have asked him to take said cat but he doesn’t want the responsibility

JaceLancs · 07/02/2022 01:03

my husbands dog is a complete bellend. He was only young when we met, totally harassed my old dog, liked to w**k until he was neutered, jumped everywhere on everything, didnt listen, eats shit-literally makes himself ill by eating random rubbish/rotting fungi/any faeces, rolled in fresh human poop on our holiday, steals food right in front of you from kids hands, doesnt listen/obey despite thorough training, obsessively chases/eats white paper and his crowning achievement was setting our house on fire whilst trying to steal food.

I loathed him for years, waiting for him to mature. Or die. Gradually I've come to love him. For all his fuckwittery he;s the kindest, most honest, goofiest dog I've ever met. Not a bad bone in his body. Not a brain cell either. I like him enough that we recently rescued a dog of the same breed as him. He's taken her under his wing and is teaching her how to dog.
Since the fire he is locked safely in a XL crate when home alone and has a pet cam on him.

Monopolyiscrap · 07/02/2022 01:08

My parents cat. I used to love all cats before they got that cat. They got it from the rescue, and it had already been taken by a family and then returned. It was mean, would randomly jump out at you, loved attacking feet, would attack you when you loved it off the sofa so you could sit down. It was a bastard. My mum adored it and the cat adored her - although it still randomly attacked her sometimes. I was secretly glad when it died.

Molly70 · 07/02/2022 01:12

Can’t you just leave a bowl of dry food out so he can eat without bothering you in the night? I volunteer for a cat rescue and all the cats get access to dry food 24/7 without issue.

Cornishqween · 07/02/2022 01:23

This little sod - we have a love/hate relationship. He spends every moment asking for food, sometimes he'll eat a full bowl then immediately start whining for more!
Not at all cuddly, will allow me to pick him up but leans his whole body away from you constantly Grin
Rips my settees, dining chairs and carpet to shreds despite having 3 scratching posts to choose from.
Does love a cuddle with ddog when they're left home alone though so that's quite sweet.
He's not even 1 yet so no idea if this will improve as he gets older
