Do any of you have a pet that you actually just can't fucking stand?

My cat. Approx 11 years old and counting! Wink I've had him for a decade. A part of me does love him, but he's a knob and lessens my quality of life rather than add anything to it. He's so whiney and food obsessed and I am seldom able to sleep the whole night through because of him.
When he departs I shall be sad, but I won't miss him, and there will be relief in a way.
He has a wonderful life here with us, and I won't give him away, because he's old and is our responsibility.
Have you ever had a love/hate relationship with a family pet?

I have never entirely chosen my cats. I have had one stray, two rescues and two who came with the house. Once it occurred to me that choosing an animal was a bit like going to a slave market I haven't been able to shake the thought.
My current two are litter mates who came with the house; they are pretty ok compared to many of the others one here. However, they are banned from my bedroom, after leaving four dead bodies under the bed in two days. And I really wish they would not get into random moods and fight each other.

Scianel · 09/02/2022 06:55

@mycatisannoying a picture or two would not go amiss Wink

Cats Getting pregnant! Easy solution to that and yes they can be arseholes but I so love them. Those ears and sweet little noses oh everything about them is so wrong but its so right. I love being punched in the face first thing in the morning when I just can't get up. I love standing on that escaped rock hard litter in my bare feet. The tiled kitchen floor is so easy to clean but she prefers to up chuck on my cream bedroom carpet. Furniture is scrap. Hair on everything I own. It all pales into insignificance because I loves her and she loves me, it's only stuff.

@SoosanCarter

My tortoise. He’s a Sex Beast. He lives in a sectioned off part of the garden because he will race over and start trying to mate anyone’s shoes. Bashes my feet and it hurts! Chases the cats and the dog, who is scared of him. I love him, and wouldn’t rehome him because it’s hard to find good homes for tortoises, and I couldn’t inflict him on anyone else!
I'm howling at the sex pest tortoise 🐢
PossiblyDreaming · 09/02/2022 07:38

I had a tortoise as a child that used to spend its days shagging an old lawnmower. We ended up having to wrap the lawnmower in an old blanket as every time he shagged it it sounded like someone was ringing a bell.

Namechangerextraordinaire1 · 09/02/2022 08:17

Today I learned tortoises are horny little buggers

I don't hate my cat, exactly but he is incredibly irritating and scratches the carpet to fuckery when he is shut out of a room, but I have to shut him out sometimes as if he is in he jumps all over me and scratches me and I hate it. Not just the usual few mins while he gets comfy, but he will stand on me and cleat at me for 30 plus minutes and it hurts

lemongrasstea · 09/02/2022 08:35

Kurt Zouma, apparently. But he kicks it round the kitchen on video, rather than what the rest of us do, which is put up with our (secretly dear) moggies and mutts.. :(

Poor thing. He must be living a miserable life. Have you tried speaking to a zoo or a tortpise club, they might have some ideas for making his life a bit better. (Another good reason for getting cats and dogs neutered also)
plipplops · 09/02/2022 08:46

We had the most awful hamster, she was fucking vile and lived for nearly two years just to spite us. Would bite everyone that went near her so you couldn’t touch her at all, slept all day so not entertaining, just a pain in the ass to clean every week. Most stupid, pointless pet ever.

Would you have posted a picture of a dead cat?

mycatisannoying · 09/02/2022 09:57

Maybe if I hated him that much, my phone wouldn't have had these photos (not as many as my dog, but still a fair few!) or I wouldn't think he was the handsomest cat in the world ...

Still annoying as fuck though Grin

@plipplops erm hamsters are nocturnal? And if mine wakes up in the day if he smells food. The cage must be very small if you need to clean every week. And hamsters can be toilet trained, mine is toilet trained and can use a hamster toilet. A hamster cage needs to be at least 100 by 50 cm or for a female more likely 120 cm by 50 cm (as they are more active).

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/02/2022 09:59

No. One or two of the relatives, though.

mycatisannoying · 09/02/2022 10:00

This one makes me laugh. He'd taken over the poor dog's bed!

And my armchair! Grin

I have 5 cats (know idea how I allowed it to happen). They are all so different personality wise. 1 big ginger boy who is absolutely lovely and doesn’t even mind when my 6 year old makes him dress up and play babies with him. 2 girls, one very loving and loves fuss, the other like a little doll, very delicate and can hardly hear her purr but she is very sweet. Then the final 2: one young male who is like a seagull, steals food from your plate, purr sounds like a helicopter, constantly climbing up my curtains and eating everything he shouldn’t then throwing up. My older girl is Jackel and Hyde. She rubs your legs constantly for food but if you don’t do it immediately (dry food already available at all times which she loves) she bites or scratches. If you dare try to stroke her too long attacks you and then immediately goes back to rubbing against you. They are messy, loud, won’t sleep unless on me (multiple pictures OH has taken of me napping with 4 on me including my head), only oldest girl refuses to come near the bed when I get on. Wake me up constantly, one bites my eyelashes in my sleep or pulls on my bottom lip to look inside my mouth to let me know she wants food at 2am, leaving me with very sore lips). Love them all though, even though they drive me up all the wall. Oldest is 3 so have a fair few years of this to look forward to!

Maddiemademe · 09/02/2022 10:12

Also big ginger boy obsessed with me and hits my DP if they try and touch me and steals seats to be next to me.

LuckyAmy1986 · 09/02/2022 10:25

I fucking HATE cats in general but omg that video Angry what the hell???? That’s absolutely disgusting. It seems like the whole family is in on it as well not just him? The person (child?) laughing filming it. They all seem to find it funny. Outrageous. Makes me sicj

SprintingAtlas · 09/02/2022 10:45

I knew when I clicked on this that it would be about a cat! Grin

Now I love cats, but unlike dogs that you can train, you really don't know what type of cat you're going to get. Some are adorable cuddle bunches and others are just total arseholes who are only in it for the free food and lodgings.

My old cat was very needy and in her final years I didn't have a full night's sleep for about 5 years (I likened it to having a permanent newborn) but I did adore her.

It's clear from the pictures you've posted that your cat clearly loves his home (giving you the most generous gift of a dead mouse and stretching out on your scented armchair) but I agree they can be a pain in the arse unless they're really cute and cuddly!

Even more depressingly the person filming was his adult brother.

Poor cat. He claimed it was an isolated incident but I don’t believe that for a minute. Clearly a family who weren’t surprised by this behaviour. Animals need to be removed.

Apparently he is the ambassador for a large cat charity. Hopefully they have dropped him.

mycatisannoying · 09/02/2022 12:03

I have heard about that video, but wouldn't be able to watch it.
Another brainless moron of a football player, who will no doubt be above the law.

@Mellowyellow222 absolutely vile. And agree no way was that an isolated incident

JonSnowIsALoser · 09/02/2022 12:21

Regarding a Sex Beast tortoise mentioned upthread, they all are! The males want to be at it all the time. A male will bump the females (or anything tortoise-shaped) really aggressively with his shell until he gets what he wants - so one male needs to be housed with multiple females, otherwise the lady tortoise gets no peace and gets dangerously exhausted. And the makes are really, really LOUD during sex - just go on You Tube and search for "mating tortoises". It's hilarious, proper sex face and all.

I have two young tortoises - got them from a reputable breeder recommended by the Tortoise Protection Society (don't get them from pet shops as it encourages smuggling!). I pray they are not male and female - but you can't tell until they are about 2 years old. They are very sweet.

Sinthie · 09/02/2022 12:38

Our dog pukes on the floor, has peed on the rugs so much that I’ve thrown at least 4 away over the years. She also stinks, even shortly after bathing. But we love her.
