Hairdresser smoking during appointment

I go to my hairdresser's house for my appointment and get a cut and blow dry in her kitchen. Kitchen has the back door to outside. Hairdresser smokes and so does her partner. Partner not there all the time but when he is he often sits at the dining table smoking. Hairdresser sometimes smokes during appointment but when she does she opens the back door. AIBU to think that you shouldn't smoke when you run your business from your home and have clients in getting a service? My sister thinks I should get over it as I'm choosing to go to the hairdresser's house and it's her home and she can do what she wants.

So:
IABU - hairdresser can do what she wants in her own home despite having clients in at the time
IANBU - hairdresser should treat kitchen as a place of work during appointment times and not smoke or allow her partner to smoke

As above - find a new hairdresser. If she's so unprofessional she can't treat her workplace and her clients with respect, I wouldn't want her anywhere near my hair!

Not sure which way to vote. I agree with you that it’s unprofessional, I’d find it a dealbreaker, and I’d think it will cost her clients. But it is her home, all you can do is not go back if you don’t like it.

YANBU - It's not very professional but your Sister is right in that it's her house so she can do what she wants, you're only option is to look for a new hairdresser

I'm imagining she has one of those big overhead hair dryers on wheels and maybe a tabard!

Pretty sure that if her home is classed as her place of work, then smoking inside it would be illegal?

I imagine though that telling her that probably isn't going to change anything, so yeah you're going to have to suck it up or go somewhere else.

I remember years ago when smoking was allowed indoors the person having her hair done next to me in the hairdressers was smoking and I came out stinking of smoke. Disgusting. I'm surprised she thinks this is acceptable.

Does she wash her hands after having a smoke between touching your hair? Seriously gross if she doesn't. And no I wouldn't want to come out of a service of any kind stinking of cigarettes. I assume you are paying for it? So it should be as professional as if it was in a salon.

Its her house, but yuk! Smelling of stale secondhand smoke after paying for a wash and blowdry seems daft. Find another hairdresser!

I'm not certain, but surely if her home is her place of work with paying customers then she's breaking the law.

I don't fancy getting cancer in exchange for a hair cut so I'd be going elsewhere.
