Purely posting here for traffic.

At about which BMI would you consider yourself or others to be 'slim'?

OP posts:
LIZS · 04/02/2022 11:18

Under 20

CharacterForming · 04/02/2022 11:19

Depends on age and height and peer group but under 23.

Lavender24 · 04/02/2022 11:21

I think BMI is a very poor indicator of a person's body fat and what they actually look like. But if I had to pick a number I'd say under 21.

rainyskylight · 04/02/2022 11:23

19-20

usernotfound0000 · 04/02/2022 11:24

I think it really depends. Mine is 24 and I'm a size 10 and think I'm quite slim. Personally if I got to the weight required to have a BMI iof 20, I would look ill.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 04/02/2022 11:26

I would say within the healthy range is slim. At BMI 25 I am a size 10. I'm currently BMI 28 and a size 14.

Cam2020 · 04/02/2022 11:26

It depends on their build, surely? The lower scale is for people with a small frame, mid range for medium frames and the upper scale for larger frames?

Yes.
BottleOfSun · 04/02/2022 11:29

Honestly I think bmi is rubbish, it’s a outdated way to judge. Some people genuinely weigh more than they look due to body proportions.
Ive been down to the lower portion of the “healthy” bmi and I looked really skeletal.

TheLeadbetterLife · 04/02/2022 11:31

It's entirely dependent on build. I look slim at around 23, but I have a large frame and my fat is evenly distributed. Someone smaller might have too much abdominal fat with a BMI of 23. My abdominal fat gets disproportionate upwards of 25.

Definitely. I'm BMI 24 and a size 14. I'm within the healthy range but literally no one would call me slim! Healthy yes but not slim. I'm 5 ft 10.
Dixiechickonhols · 04/02/2022 11:36

Depends on build. At 22-23 I’m a 10/12 and feel slim.

purplesequins · 04/02/2022 11:39

I'm usually described as slim.
tall, middle of 'healthy bmi

I never really thought about it like that but this is spot on. I'm only 4'11 and feel really uncomfortable above 19-20.
changewwible · 04/02/2022 11:42

Completely depends on body shape and type I think.

Mine is 24, I'm a size 12 and quite chunky.

My friend is a 23 and she's slim and willowy.

shangelawasrobbed · 04/02/2022 11:43

It depends on the person. I'm 5'8" and look healthy anywhere between BMI 19-24 (any higher and I start looking a bit chubby), but if say I look slim/think anywhere below BMI 21.5.

PurpleDaisies · 04/02/2022 11:43

How do you know what someone else’s bmi is?

Slim is based on what you look like, not what you weigh.

shangelawasrobbed · 04/02/2022 11:44

Slim/thin, not think - sorry.

Ponoka7 · 04/02/2022 11:47

For most people it's under 25. It then depends on build and body fat percentage. It's body fat percentage that matters more than BMI once you are in the healthy weight range.

Definitely. Ten years back I had a brilliant PT. I lost zero weight (I was already in the healthy range) but went down two dress sizes and looked the best I have in my life.
lastqueenofscotland · 04/02/2022 11:50

Depends on build. I’m tall but with a small frame. With a BMI of above 23 I look quite chubby. Mine is about 20 atm and I’m slim but not “skinny” by any stretch!

BillyAndTheSillies · 04/02/2022 11:54

At 21, which is where it is now I feel slim. I'm a size 6/8.
I would look emaciated any smaller. But this is unusual for me, I went from a BMI of 40 after having bariatric surgery but have maintained the weight I am for 6 months so far with minimal effort so my body must feel comfortable here.

Svara · 04/02/2022 12:16

Varies by build and how much muscle you have but in general 18.5 to 22.

SartresSoul · 04/02/2022 12:20

Mine was 22 when I was at my slimmest and I was absolutely tiny. It isn’t a very good indicator because everyone has a different body type. People who have an athletic shape tend to always look slim compared to someone who is an hourglass like me or a pear shape.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 04/02/2022 12:21

BMI is a bullshit racist concept.
