Purely posting here for traffic.

At about which BMI would you consider yourself or others to be 'slim'?

Under about 19/20 for me would be slim

schmalex · 04/02/2022 12:36

I feel slim at the moment as I'm a size 8 and BMI 21.
When my BMI reaches 23/24 I'm not slim, but I have quite a small frame.

shouldistop · 04/02/2022 12:39

I look slim at bmi under 23, when my bmi was 20 I looked very thin.

peedawg · 04/02/2022 12:43

between 19 to 21 but slim is really just a healthy weight

MaryLennoxsScowl · 04/02/2022 12:46

When I was 18 and weighed 7 and a half stone my BMI was still 20 and my waist was 24 inches and I was really slim. I’d have to be seriously skinny to get below that.

GalactatingGoddess · 04/02/2022 13:04

I once got to 8s12 which was about 21 and I was skeletal. It was not suited to my frame at all. I've looked best and still slim but curvy size 10 about 24/25

DamnShesaSexyChick · 04/02/2022 13:07

For me it’s 19 or below

Cocomarine · 04/02/2022 13:09

I don’t feel slim unless I’m under BMI healthy range.

AmbushedByCake1 · 04/02/2022 13:10

For me it's 20-21.

About10thusername · 04/02/2022 13:18

I've met Olympic athletes who apparently have unhealthy high BMI levels. It's a load of tosh and has very little to do with how healthy or fit you are.

Chickydoo · 04/02/2022 13:25

I'm 5'7'
My BMI is 19.1
I am slim not skinny by any means.

Most people aren’t Olympic athletes though. I agree that it doesn’t measure fitness but for the most part, it does tell you if you’re higher risk for certain health issues.
Dixiechickonhols · 04/02/2022 13:30

Height helps I think and also perception of what is slim. I’d describe my teenage daughter as very slim at a 18 bmi size 4/6, xs in hollister. She’s tall though at 5ft 10.
I’m 5 ft 8 and don’t feel slim at top end healthy bmi 25 I feel slim 22/23 but it’s all relative.

YeOldeTrout · 04/02/2022 13:33

Hmmm...

Given the weird things MNers say about BMI I won't use those boundaries, but I'd discuss things like waist size on a nominal 5'6" tall woman age 20-45 yo.

to me, very subjective,

Thin = approaching underweight or actually underweight (Waist ≤ 25")

Slim = Lower side of healthy size but maybe not Thin (waist 25-28")

Stout or Plump = a little fat, or Not necessarily fat, but Could lose weight and still not be Slim (waist 29-31/32")

Fat : bigger than above

Lucimaya · 04/02/2022 13:34

My BMI used to be 19 and looking back at photos, I didn't realise at the time how ill and scrawny I was.

Now it's 24.7, I'm a size 8-10 and 5ft 8. Much healthier, but I do think BMI is outdated and not very relevant anymore.

There is 'slim' and ill looking. I definitely looked like the latter when it was anything under 23.

nicecoffeecup · 04/02/2022 13:39

As others have said, it also has to do with the body shape and muscle. I do sports and some running I'd think I'm slim range 22-24. However, I during lockdown my sports/exercise mostly stopped for 9 months, and while my BMI was still in that range I did not consider myself slim (muscle->fat).

Slim is a perception, and I think age is a factor too. I'm in my 50s, and considered slim, but not when I'd look at my DD and some of here friends!!

I look skinny at 19-20 (size 8, 5"9) and at 23 I am comfy size 12. So maybe 21/22 is slim.

thecatneuterer · 04/02/2022 13:58

For me personally, 20. Generally, probably around 22.

FlamingRoses · 04/02/2022 14:01

Mine is 24 I think and I would class myself as chubby. I guess 22.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 04/02/2022 14:05

I'm 5'4 with a tiny frame and feel right at BMI 20

Thatsplentyjack · 04/02/2022 14:05

Definitely. I'm BMI 24 and a size 14. I'm within the healthy range but literally no one would call me slim! Healthy yes but not slim. I'm 5 ft 10.

I'm the same height, size and bmi. To be slim I would need to be around bmi 22. Well that's what I'm aiming for at the moment.

Daley Thompson had a BMI of 25.71 , which is fine. If someone is in the overweight category you look at them and ask; peachy or porky.

Which athletes were you thinking of?

Natty13 · 04/02/2022 17:20

Mone is 24 or 25 and I'm a size 6 so my answer is no BMI, it depends on your build.

pictish · 04/02/2022 17:27

I’m average height and weigh 9st 2. I’m a BMI of 22 and generally wear an 8. I think most would describe me as slim. I don’t know if 22 is ‘good’ or not.
