To wish iPhone wasn't so hard to switch on?!

The whole switching on and off, having to press Vol up then Vol down then the actual switching off button is quite hard to press down and you have to hold it down really hard - it must be hard for people with arthritic issues in hand as I find it hard enough

Why can't they just have an easy on off button that is smooth and easy to press on??

I've had iPhones for over 10 years and I've NEVER had to put the volume up and down to switch on/off.

I just press and hold the on off switch for a few seconds. A little longer to switch back on

Hereforthelaughs2020 · 31/01/2022 10:40

Same! In the gym this morning and was playing up, so tried to turn off and on again… nightmare!

Lilifer · 31/01/2022 10:40

Don't you find the on off button really hard to hold down though??

I don’t think many people actually ever turn off their iPhones. I don’t think I ever have in all my years of owning one.

This. I’ve never used the volume buttons. I don’t need to apply as much pressure on the switch button either if I’m using my left hand - thumb just above the buttons, open palm across the back of the phone, use second finger for the on/off switch. Easy.
Lilifer · 31/01/2022 10:42

I've an iPhone 11 and instructions are to press and hold Vol button and side button until slider appears but even that is hard because the damn buttons are hard to press down on!

Just press shut down from the menu if it's so difficult for you.

allthingsnaice · 31/01/2022 10:43

It's fairly easy on my phone to hold down - if you take it out of its case. Did you have a case on when you did this? Just wondering as obviously they're designed to make it harder to hold down the buttons.

BHX3000 · 31/01/2022 10:43

No, it’s really easy. Do you have a particularly thick or hard protective case? I can see why that would be a bit more challenging.
Lilifer · 31/01/2022 10:43

I DO have a case - maybe that's why?? 🤔

Why do you need to switch it off? You can put it on silent or use airplane mode.

MrsTimRiggins · 31/01/2022 10:46

Do you need to turn it on and off? Could you not simply put it on aeroplane mode when you’d usually turn it off?

itwasntaparty · 31/01/2022 10:47

I don't think I've ever turned mine off, just tried and it was very easy.

karlakourt · 31/01/2022 10:47

It's designed to not be switched off though

SantaHat · 31/01/2022 10:50

I still don’t really understand why you’re turning it off so frequently, especially if it’s so hard. But if you must, surely just turn it off via the menu option?

cheekychaplin · 31/01/2022 10:52

Why are you switching it off though

PineappleTart · 31/01/2022 10:53

Amazed at all these people saying they never have to switch off. The standard for any iphone glitches is to do a soft reset which is where you use the volume buttons. Used to be that you just held down the power button

user1471481356 · 31/01/2022 10:57

I turn my phone off all the time and I’ve never found it hard. I don’t have to press the volume buttons? Just hold the on/off button for a few seconds. It’s definitely not hard to press and I have a cover on my phone.

BHX3000 · 31/01/2022 10:57

I switch mine off at least weekly, but I have an old iPhone 7 right now, which just freezes if you don’t restart it regularly.

SoupDragon · 31/01/2022 11:01

@Lilifer

Don't you find the on off button really hard to hold down though??
I did but I agree with a PP that it's probably my case causing the problem.

Which phone do you have? Mine is a 12 and you have to hold the power button plus a volume button to turn it off. It's ridiculous really. I keep taking bloody screenshots by mistake. If you press and hold the power button it just launches Siri.
WhatICallMyUsername · 31/01/2022 11:07

I have an iPhone X and have to press the on/off button and the volume up button simultaneously to turn it off. I had to do it yesterday as Virgin decided I needed a new sim Hmm

Freshprincess · 31/01/2022 11:07

I had to google how to switch off my iPhone 11 because they changed it. I don’t find it that hard, tbf but i suppose that some people might find it hard with arthritis as you have to press two things at the same time.

CovidCorvid · 31/01/2022 11:07

I have no idea how to turn it off so not had this problem. I find taking screenshots a nightmare though. It’s 50/50 whether it does it or turns the screen off. Buttons are so fiddly

Orangeon · 31/01/2022 11:07

Why would you need to switch it off? 🤷🏽
