To wish iPhone wasn't so hard to switch on?!

The whole switching on and off, having to press Vol up then Vol down then the actual switching off button is quite hard to press down and you have to hold it down really hard - it must be hard for people with arthritic issues in hand as I find it hard enough

Why can't they just have an easy on off button that is smooth and easy to press on??

My husband has Cerebral Palsy and he can turn his iPhone on and off fine, I'm now looking for mine to see if it's a faff.

I think it's the cover that's the problem

Those instructions with the volume button are for restarting. To turn off you only need to press and hold the one button until the swipe to turn off screen comes up.
I've just tried that on my iPhone 12 Mini. If I only hold the one button (on the right), it launches Siri. No matter how long I hold it. To switch it off, I do have to press and hold the up volume button and the right side button. With my iPhone 8, this was true, but it's not the case with newer iPhones.

No you don't. That brings up Siri.

I think it’s your cover. I have iPhone 11, with the official cover and the buttons are easy. Again hardly ever switch off, just use airplane mode if you need to be ‘off’.

Regarding repair, of course iPhone can be repaired. I recently had old iPhone 6s collected by UPS, taken to change battery for a new one, and returned within 3 days. Cost €30. Bargain imo for that service. Then gave to a friend.
My mother still uses my old iPhone 3g which is a good 10+ years old.
The cameras on the new ones are really good.

@grumpygiraffe
😂😂😂😂. Every time I use it it annoys me - it's easy to change but I keep forgetting

Miraloma · 31/01/2022 14:17

Any iPhone past the X needs the vol button pressed too. If you still have a 'home button' then it's just the side button

I just do settings - general - shut down, and then swipe it off, can’t be doing with pressing and holding buttons, that takes seconds

I agree! I think you can shut down from settings but starting it back up seems to take forever 😅
