AIBU to wear silly socks for the rest of my life?

Does anyone really look at other people's socks?

I have a drawer of socks which is over flowing. A friend gave me some space themed socks which are the ones I prefer to wear. I have loads of plain black socks which are a pain to pair as they're all slightly different even if they're black. I never wear them because it takes ages to find two. I'm very tempted to throw the lot and only buy easy to pair socks, cheerful, colourful socks from now on.

DH thinks I should follow his method, he only buys black or grey socks from the same brand so all of his grey socks match and all of his black socks match.

AIBU to wear silly socks for the rest of my life?

Silly socks all the way

Titsywoo · 27/01/2022 09:38

I just have one colour of socks to save hassle. DH and DS both wear mismatched socks every day and don't care (in fact they don't like wearing matching ones). I couldn't bear it myself but I have issues Grin

I got a Moshulu sale catalogue through the door and was baffled as to why they only sold socks singly rather than in pairs. Now I know wearing odd socks is a thing, that clears that up!

Silly socks are great though.

I have given up wearing matching socks. So have my children. We match colours, so patterns that look good together.

nettytree · 27/01/2022 09:46

Currently sitting in Costa wearing star wars socks. I think these are the only pair I own that currently match. Go for it.

Redbeanpasta · 27/01/2022 09:49

I only ever wear odd socks, for probably the last 15 years, stripes on one foot, dots on the other, different colours, fun ones etc. Yanbu, embrace the fun sock side!

PinkWaferBiscuit · 27/01/2022 09:49

My DH only wears funky socks think along the line of fried eggs, rubics cubes, assorted fruits/veg and my personal favourite rainbow sheep. Honestly life is way too short to wear boring black socks and it definitely makes pairing them after doing the laundry much more enjoyable.

Embrace the joy that is looking at your feet and seeing something that makes you smile. 😊😊😊

I'm 40 and I've always worn silly socks, the most sensible socks I own are a black pair with grey toes, they came in a multipack and I only got them because they are thermal! All my other socks are brightly coloured with stripes/spots/stars/ponies/bunnies/dogs/brussels sprouts etc on them! I hate boring plain socks!

HelloBunny · 27/01/2022 09:50

Thinking of upping my sock game, too. I like coloured socks, but got some really nice patterned Thought socks at Christmas & I love them! Gonna hit up TK Maxx & treat myself to a new sock wardrobe (or drawer?)

Life is too short for boring socks - cure toy have zebra socks on

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 27/01/2022 09:50

Currently not cure toy!

ShinyMe · 27/01/2022 09:51

Life is far too short to only wear boring socks (or clothes in general).

I had a colleague once who was very vocal about how women past the age of 12 should only ever wear black or white pants, black socks, plain tops, NO cartoon characters and nothing brightly coloured. She was insane (and very boring) and I took great delight in flaunting my dalek/pug/crocodile/neon polka dot socks at her on a daily basis.

Whelmed · 27/01/2022 09:52

Yanbu, I absolutely hate pairing black socks, none of them seem to match completely. Mine have a dash of colour and are easier to match. Same with DC socks, apart from the grey school ones.

TurningAroundAndSaying · 27/01/2022 09:52

No one cares about your socks, although I know people who wear odd socks on purpose because they think it makes them different and interesting. It just makes them annoying.

McScreamysGhostPants · 27/01/2022 09:52

Every six months I go to primark and buy 5x packs of themed socks and me and my daughter wear them randomly as odd pairs. Done this for years and I'm never going through the battle of pairing socks again. The men in the family (all late teens/young adults) get 5 packs of identical plain black. Again, no more worrying about pairs as they are all matched.

Go for the bright socks!

PickledLilly · 27/01/2022 09:53

Almost every pair of socks I own have dinosaurs on them. I’m 40. Silly socks all the way!

Gosh aren't you a peach and your post makes absolutely no sense as you obviously care about people's socks. Maybe go outside buy yourself some funky socks and see if you can also purchase a sense of humour.
TurningAroundAndSaying · 27/01/2022 09:56

Wearing Ker-Razy! socks very much does not mean you have a sense of humour. The opposite, usually.

RavenclawsRoar · 27/01/2022 09:57

Oh god we've done the same sock colour thing and it's nearly broken me. At least patterned pairs are obvious pairs - now we have every so slightly different shades of the same colour in slightly varying sizes. I'm going back to patterned!

StrawberryFever · 27/01/2022 09:57

Yabu to care about black socks being matched exactly - if you're in an environment where funky sticks are acceptable (and I can't think of many where they're not), then why on earth would it matter if you're wearing 'mismatched' black socks.

Of course it means you have a sense of humour and it shows you don't take yourself too seriously. For someone who claims no one notices other people's socks you seem to have very strong feelings on the matter. Hmm
TurningAroundAndSaying · 27/01/2022 09:57

And, as I explained, it's fine. Just don't wear odd ones and think it makes you eccentric.

TurningAroundAndSaying · 27/01/2022 09:58

Oh get knotted.

If noone cares about them (I agree, I only expect me to care about my socks!) why is it annoying? I wear odd socks because I like to, I don't think it makes me interesting, who's looking under my pants at my socks.
Ilovedthe70s · 27/01/2022 09:58

If I have a sock for each foot I’m happy, I have never noticed anyone else’s socks so assume they care as little about mine.
Two socks is a pair.
