Horrified at 7month old in pizza express with screen

MadeinSW3 · 22/01/2022 15:00

I went for lunch today at pizza express, there was a couple giving their ?7month old a bottle with a screen propped up with something Disney to watch. They then plopped baby into high chair and put something else on during whole time at the stable. How can people be so stupid! The baby was looking around elsewhere for something more interesting.

@MissCrowley

This is something I did. And if people judged me I didn't give a shit. I had two kinds under 2. I was suffering with manic depression and bouts of psychosis. I also struggled with fibro shortly after giving birth to my DS and he didn't sleep for 3 months because he had a CMPA. If you're that arsed how about you entertain their baby. I'm sure they'd be glad of a few minutes peace.
ThanksThanksThanks

@WindyState

That’s not what’s happened though, is it? The OP hasn’t come out snd said “I’m an arsehole”. She’s stated an opinion thst you personally disagree with and are judging her for but don’t seem to understand the subjectivity behind whether or not her statement makes her an arsehole, so you hilariously think your judgment is somehow above hers.

BABAHOTEL · 22/01/2022 18:26

@Yumperwumpee

What?! There are plenty of fun and exciting books for that age bracket.

That a 7 month old will look at on their own? Seriously, mine just lobbed everything on the floor at that age.

Well you must be a shocking parent because mine ate them!!

Why would they need to look at it on their own? Have they taken themselves off to pizza express by themselves?!

WindyState · 22/01/2022 18:26
@bigbeachedwales ^I’d have been horrified too. I always used to prop a Shakespeare play up in front of my DCs when they were little^

What only propping up Shakespeare plays?!! My son was re-writing them and directing them at that age 😂
Shakespear? Pah. That's the Captain Underpants of the 17th century.

My kids are permitted to read the Odyssey. That's it.

I think in this instance most people's judgement is above the OP's.

Pipe down and stop digging.

Yumperwumpee · 22/01/2022 18:27

Presumably because the whole reason the parent put the screen in front of their child is so they could eat their meal in peace without having to read their child a book?

Nope, they have.

And yep, I do think my judgement of "you have no idea what was going in those people's lives so mind your own business" is above "Lol! Look at those shit parents".

Thehop · 22/01/2022 18:29

A girl I worked with posted a video to Facebook the other day of her 4 month old laughing at his favourite cartoon, in a jumperoo parked in front of the tv

Really really sad

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 22/01/2022 18:29

OP: "welcome to my thread in which I smugly congratulate myself on being such an all round superior person"

Artesia · 22/01/2022 18:29

@Perfect28

I think it's really sad the sheer quantity of people that think this is ok. Bottles shouldn't be propped as they are a choking hazard, parents should be holding if baby can't. Mealtimes are an ideal time to talk about food, textures, colours, generally bond with your baby. I wonder why so many choose to become parents if the prevailing view is that they are an inconvenience.
I did this once- dumped my child in a high chair in a cafe, shoved a phone in front of them and ignored them while I talked to my husband.

I'd just found out I had had a missed miscarriage and we needed to decide whether to let nature take its course or have a D&C. I wasn't really up for chatting about colours, textures or anything.

You have absolutely no idea about what's going on in other people's lives, so maybe you should save your judgment.

And to put your mind at rest, my son is not an inconvenience, he's very much loved, and we have a fabulous bond. But at that moment I had other priorities.

MN is hilarious. People think their opinions are right and totally shut down discussion on a chat forum, and then think it’s fine to tell someone to “pipe down”
But it’s ok because their opinion is correct 😆😆😆

alexdgr8 · 22/01/2022 18:30

what's wrong with that.
much better than screaming and ruining other people's experience.

SuitcaseOfWhine · 22/01/2022 18:31

Go read the news, then be horrified.

YABU.

grapewine · 22/01/2022 18:32

Do you know the meaning of that word? Get over it. As long as the volume wasn't too high up, I wouldn't have cared. At least the child wasn't screaming.

Antsgomarching · 22/01/2022 18:32

I would probably judge a little bit before I reminded myself of all the times one of us had to hold the baby while the other one ate and then switch. Having said that at 7 months DD didn’t give a shit about tv so would never have watched a screen so would have been pointless. It is a it sad though, if baby is happily sitting in a high chair just chat to them.

KurtWilde · 22/01/2022 18:33

Keep your judgement to yourself. Maybe they'd been up all bloody night with a baby who doesn't sleep/teething, fancied a treat and SHOCK HORROR let their baby watch a cartoon so they could eat in peace for a bit.

Cuddlemuffin · 22/01/2022 18:36

I think you are being extremely judgemental, as others say you have no idea about the other 23 hours of their day. Other diners may have been 'horrified' at a baby screaming throughout their meal and maybe the parents were trying to avoid that. Honestly just leave people alone and get on with your own life.

Blue4YOU · 22/01/2022 18:37

@Thehop
A 4 month old in a jumparoo?? Get to fuck!!! That’s a major issue. At 4 months old…?

In this instance, yup.
WindyState · 22/01/2022 18:38

Years ago I was in a Tesco when I found out my gran had died. I then, horror of horrors, slammed a freezer door shut with my foot after it swung open in front of me. The woman who dared to say "would you do that at home?" got a very dark look that day.

No, I wouldn't normally do that at home but that day I had a good fucking excuse.

Point being, strangers don't know what is going on in other peoples lives so maybe you just concentrate on your own life.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 22/01/2022 18:39

A freezer door and a baby watching a screen are not the same thing

Blue4YOU · 22/01/2022 18:40

Because the baby’s hip development is more in danger than a potential screen addiction

WindyState · 22/01/2022 18:40

@jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey

But you get the point.

Don't judge people based on tiny little glimpses into their lives.

Easy.

Livelovebehappy · 22/01/2022 18:41

Maybe the parents have spent the other 23 hours playing, feeding and calming their baby, and just for this hour they’re enjoying having a pizza and some adult conversation. Don’t understand why some people think they should be a performing parent 24/7. Maybe they do prop baby in front of an iPad 24/7, who knows, but you can’t judge if they’re strangers to you because you know nothing of their life.
