Horrified at 7month old in pizza express with screen

MadeinSW3 · 22/01/2022 15:00

I went for lunch today at pizza express, there was a couple giving their ?7month old a bottle with a screen propped up with something Disney to watch. They then plopped baby into high chair and put something else on during whole time at the stable. How can people be so stupid! The baby was looking around elsewhere for something more interesting.

@EarlGreywithLemon

I completely agree OP. Yes, I do have a toddler, no, I don’t give her screens to watch, in restaurants or anywhere else.
Your choice. I'm sure people judge you when she gets bored and won't sit still or makes noise. If there's one thing you can't escape as a parent, it's judgement (including from other parents).
RiverSkater · 22/01/2022 17:21

You'll never know what kind of day / week/ month that family had so don't judge is my mantra!

BABAHOTEL · 22/01/2022 17:22
@BABAHOTEL sorry, I should have made myself clear: I’ve never parked her in front of a screen: not at 3 months, or 7 months, or at 8 months, or at 18 months. Not in a car, restaurant, at home, waiting room etc.
Doesn't in any way make you a better or good parent, lots of things make a good parent, OP saw one snippet of life.

It makes you a judgemental person, but certainly doesn't make me think "oh what a wonderful parent"

Momicrone · 22/01/2022 17:22

Well one could be judging in a positive light as well, I've seen some great families out, not a screen in sight

Redhotspicywine · 22/01/2022 17:22

@FOTTFSOFTFOASM

Say what you like - sticking a baby in front of a phone is crap parenting.
Agree 100%
Momicrone · 22/01/2022 17:23

They recommend not to give screens to under twos at the very least

Yumperwumpee · 22/01/2022 17:24

I should think judgy people are probably some of the least equipped to parent well. You need empathy in spades to be a good parent. As well as the critical thinking skills to realise seeing one or two hours of a stranger's life does not mean you know everything about them.

suzieruns · 22/01/2022 17:25

Clearly child abuse Hmm
I have no time for judging people, you haven't seen the rest of their day and they probably just wanted a break and a nice new out. I'm sure that child will turn out just fine.

Chely · 22/01/2022 17:25

🤣🤣🤣 get a grip

Bitofachinwag · 22/01/2022 17:26

@Thatsplentyjack

How do you know that not the only thing that will keep the child entertained while they get an hour or less to have some lunch. Get over yourself!
It wouldn't be the only thing that could keep the baby "entertained". People managed to keep their children occupied before screens were invented you know.

Yes it's sad, but for whatever reason they thought it was a good idea

tootyfruitypickle · 22/01/2022 17:27

Wish smart phones had existed when my dd was 7 months. Maybe I'd have got out for a meal occasionally!

Would much rather a baby sat with a screen than banging or shaking a bloody toy , god that drives me mental.

Chely · 22/01/2022 17:27

You do realise schools are heavy screen users these days, all kids are fooked

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 22/01/2022 17:27

OP: just shake a toy

The OP has solved parenting! Write a book about this 'just shake a toy' parenting technique, you'll make millions and all parents will bow down to your superior knowledge, OP

WTF475878237NC · 22/01/2022 17:27

I'm with you OP.

whenthedoveslie · 22/01/2022 17:28

I judge you more.

You are 3 kids in.

Perhaps they will soon realise that feeding kids pizza express is crap.

What is your excuse after 3?

Momicrone · 22/01/2022 17:28

Yes I'm sure the child will turn out just fine, never been any proven links between screens and mental health in kids Hmm

Sirzy · 22/01/2022 17:29

DS would have been banging the phone on the table instead!

Who exactly is "they"?

JugglingJanuary · 22/01/2022 17:29

Not the point if the thread I know, but those who do give their small ones screens like that, do you not worry about them getting broken??

ChateauxNeufDePoop · 22/01/2022 17:29

@MadeinSW3

I have three children, the waiter asked how old and we heard. I personally don’t like iPads at the table but if people need them for children then fine. There is no excuse for a 7 MONTH old looking at a screen!
I'll take things that didn't happen for $100 please....
Yumperwumpee · 22/01/2022 17:30

Yes maybe if all that 7 month old baby ever does is stare at a screen. You know literally nothing about these people other than that their baby was looking at a screen for a finite period in pizza express.

Are you deliberately being obtuse or are you just hard of thinking?

BiscuitLover3678 · 22/01/2022 17:30

That’s really sad. Such a young baby.

Blue4YOU · 22/01/2022 17:30

How would you know of the baby gas special needs?
Y daughter is physically and mentally disabled. At 7 months old she hyperventilated and cried (choking gasping crying) and vomited from stress in certain situations (still does). She doesn’t look especially disabled just to look at her and was always happy looking around in public places that were restaurants and so on (not in the car, not in a hospital, not in a shop). After 2 hours one evening returning from Great Ormond Street Hospital I was having panic attacks she was so bad. I got her my phone and she stopped (we now travel mostly by train).
You cannot tell what a child has been like before you happen to see them for half an hour.
Also - what should a “7 month old” baby be doing..? Joining in discussions about Boris Johnson’s downfall or what will happen in Ukraine?
At 7 months old a baby can do sweet FA remember! They are going to be completing suduko now, are they?

Bully for you. I totally used screens on occasion.

My kids are absolutely fine, and occasionally I got to have a nice meal in peace. Win fucking win in my book.
