Horrified at 7month old in pizza express with screen

I went for lunch today at pizza express, there was a couple giving their ?7month old a bottle with a screen propped up with something Disney to watch. They then plopped baby into high chair and put something else on during whole time at the stable. How can people be so stupid! The baby was looking around elsewhere for something more interesting.
Am I being unreasonable?

How do you know that not the only thing that will keep the child entertained while they get an hour or less to have some lunch. Get over yourself!
Floydthebarber · 22/01/2022 15:02
Horrified.
Foldinthecheese · 22/01/2022 15:03
This won’t go well, but I agree.
Sockpile · 22/01/2022 15:03
I thinks that’s really sad, babies get so much just from watching the world around them.
HeadToToesNo · 22/01/2022 15:03
You do you. You've got no idea what's going on for other people. I'm no fan of screens, especially at such a young age, but I think you ought to focus on shit that actually impacts your life.
AllThingsServeTheBeam · 22/01/2022 15:03
Horrified? Get a fucking grip
Sirzy · 22/01/2022 15:03
Parents do what is needed to allow them to eat. Shocking how dare they try to eat a meal while it’s hot!
It’s a long time since DS was that age but if I remember rightly they tend to be pretty quick, and very loud, to tell you if they aren’t happy!
Foldinthecheese · 22/01/2022 15:03
Although, horrified is a bit hyperbolic. I would just think it was a bit sad.
MadeinSW3 · 22/01/2022 15:04
I’ve never seen a child so young with a screen, just shake a toy! The baby looked calm and was smiling when looking away from screen !
bigbeachedwales · 22/01/2022 15:04
@MadeinSW3
I'd have been horrified too. I always used to prop a Shakespeare play up in front of my DCs when they were little.
(Get over yourself with your self righteous judgey-ness)

Keep your beak out. Maybe the mum finally got a few minutes peace to enjoy a meal and adult conversation after a relentless 7 months of a baby crying.
Hugasauras · 22/01/2022 15:06
Can't say I'd care. It's 45 mins out of their day. You've no idea what they do the other 23 hours.
bluechilli47 · 22/01/2022 15:06
You shouldn't judge. You've know idea what's been going on. Might have been the only peace they could get.
Hoppinggreen · 22/01/2022 15:06
I probably wouldn’t have been horrified but I would think it was a shame and it’s not something I would have done.
BobHadBitchTits · 22/01/2022 15:07
I'm genuinely more horrified by your writing.
FourTeaFallOut · 22/01/2022 15:07
Horrified? Is there any need to be so dramatic? I was waiting for the bit when they finished their meal and chucked the baby in the pizza oven.
MrPoppysParka · 22/01/2022 15:07
What an oddly specific age to ascribe to a child you don’t know.
Sleepdeprived42long · 22/01/2022 15:07
Until you’ve walked a mile in someone else’s shoes, it’s probably best not to judge. You have no idea what went on that hour, day, week or month before you saw this.
In my experience though, a screen would probably keep an uninterested 7 month old occupied for about 5 mins max anyway so it’s unlikely to have any long term damage
EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad · 22/01/2022 15:07
@Sockpile
The baby wasn’t forced to watch the screen. Op said The baby was looking around.
TheSnowyOwl · 22/01/2022 15:07
I expect you would have complained if the baby cried as well. Some parents can never win with the judgemental, easily horrified, people around them.
IKeptYouLikeAnOath · 22/01/2022 15:08
There's a thread on here about what MN has taught you over the years, and more than one person said it made them really paranoid and anxious in their parenting, because they hadn't realised before how people are judging everything you do.
So...yeah.
Teddybar · 22/01/2022 15:08
I agree but it won't be popular on here.
saveforthat · 22/01/2022 15:08
I agree with you op but you will get lots of people piling in telling you not to judge. I see this a lot in restaurants and agree it looks sad. I hope they did not have the sound blasting out.
newbathroom · 22/01/2022 15:08
Is this is all you have to be concerned about I envy you
Frazzled2207 · 22/01/2022 15:08
I was horrified by this kind of thing before I had kids myself. Now I’ve come to the conclusion that every parent is trying their best and not to judge.
