AIBU for feeling liked a failed feminist for shaving my fanjo? (Lighhearted)

Yes, after arguing for years about how it is a driven-by-porn fashion, and saying teenage girls needed healthy attitudes to their own pubic hair, I shaved mine off. To give it a try, for sex, entirely my own decision.
And I really like it. I haven't seen it since it was bald at 11. It looks all neat and friendly, like a small ham sandwich.
I've been arguing with myself about it all week. It's a bit bristly now but it still feels quite pleasant.
AIBU?

I identify so much with this! Though I've only fully shaved mine a handful of times and actually prefer it with hair (but ideally bare around the entry points lol). I also feel like a failed feminist every time I shave my legs. Weirdly, not when I do my armpits.

ComeOnSpringtime · 21/01/2022 20:54

It looks all neat and friendly

What kind of scary ass chewbacca did you have before?Grin

Hairy fanjos are also neat and friendly.

Theunamedcat · 21/01/2022 20:55

A ham sandwich?

I hope your partner isn't vegetarian...

Ballcactus · 21/01/2022 20:57

Feminism is about freedom of choice as much as embracing the yeti, carry on!

Giraffesandbottoms · 21/01/2022 20:59

I also wax down there as I just think it looks and feels a lot cleaner - I like a strip of hair so it’s not totally bald though. However when my 3 year old son has seen me shaving my legs and asked why I do it, it’s quite hard to explain really without feeling quite insane/misogynistic

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 21/01/2022 21:00

"a small ham sandwich"

Mine might look like that if it was unearthed. suspect it'd look like a small ham sandwich that got squished in the bottom of a schoolbag.

Last term.

Soubriquet · 21/01/2022 21:02

It’s your body therefore it’s your choice. 100% feminism

However, I don’t do it mainly because it itches like crazy when it starts to grow back

HelloFrostyMorning · 21/01/2022 21:02

YANBU to wanna shave it. I shave mine, because that's how I prefer it. Always found sex better with it too - especially oral.

Be prepared though @Dustyplumber for the 'why do you want to look like a pre-pubescent child?' comments... It won't take long!

Although why anyone thinks a grown woman in her 20s of 30s (or older) looks like a child, just because she has shaved her pubic hair off just baffles me. It shows where their mind naturally gravitates to, and says a lot more about them than you. So just ignore anyone who baits you with any comments like that...

HelloFrostyMorning · 21/01/2022 21:03

'20s OR 30s,' not '20s OF 30s' ...

When I first saw this thread title I misread it and thought it said

AIBU for feeling liked a failed middle class for shaving my fanjo? (Lighhearted)

Probably because I’ve just seen a thread about being middle class 😂 and I thought “what the hell is a middle class fanjo?”

My glasses are on now GrinBlush

Mine looks more like a pac man

Wagga Wagga Wagga wagga

pastypirate · 21/01/2022 21:05

I shave my fanjo. I couldn't give a crap about it's political connotations. Bodily autonomy!!

PonyPatter44 · 21/01/2022 21:07

I found it made everything a bit more sensitive, and hence sex was better.... I dont always shave but I trim very very short and I love the feeling!

@ComeOnSpringtime thank you form my first MN belly 😆
gobbledygoook · 21/01/2022 21:09

Has to be all gone for me!! It makes me feel fresh and cleaner (definitely a mental thing). I wish mine looked like a cute ham sandwich. I've never made direct eye contact with mine, but I assume it's probably more like a Smørrebrød.

Ponoka7 · 21/01/2022 21:10

"Yes, after arguing for years about how it is a driven-by-porn fashion, and saying teenage girls needed healthy attitudes to their own pubic hair, I shaved mine off. To give it a try, for sex, entirely my own decision."

Those of us who've shaved for decades (I'm in my 50's) have been told that we haven't made our own decisions and have been argued with, by people like you that we don't do it because we like it. It pisses me off when we have to defend ourselves and low and behold now those arguing with us are doing it.

If you read up on the history of shaving it was always done in sexually permissive cultures. We stopped shaving thanks to Victorian attitudes to sex. A shaved fanjo was a sign of sexual liberation.

Aderyn21 · 21/01/2022 21:13

Yabu cos it's going to itch like crazy when it grows back!

pastypirate · 21/01/2022 21:13

Sex definitely better without all that in the way!

Justananimalcrossing · 21/01/2022 21:13

I love it shaved but someone please share some wisdom how to stop that horrendous itching when it starts to grow back!

BasaltIsland · 21/01/2022 21:16

Feminism isn’t a religion - I don’t like this idea that doing or not doing something that feminism has identified as problematic makes you ‘good’ or ‘bad’. If you support women’s rights and you’re open to analysing things from a feminist perspective, you’re feminist. That’s it.

I’m not saying everything women do is great or feminist in itself. But it doesn’t doesn’t designate a woman as better or worse at being a feminist. Part of my feminism is absolutely recognising that I am influenced by the society around me.

NameChangeinHaste · 21/01/2022 21:16

YABU to feel like a failed feminist and for shaving not waxing!
Other than that you’re all good!

Snugglepumpkin · 21/01/2022 21:21

It's your body so it's up to you, but I don't get why you want to look like a child.

Isn't that a lot of work for something you'll have to do frequently if you shaved it?

ComeOnSpringtime · 21/01/2022 21:23

@ComeonSpringtime thank you form my first MN belly 😆

😅😅 Anytime. @Weenurse
