To expect an exchange or refund?

I bought a new TV online from Currys, picked it up, sound was dreadful, took it back and exchanged it in store for another one that had good online reviews. Took that one home, picture quality is awful. Took it back in again to try one final exchange and was told I couldn't as goods have to be faulty to return, and the first time was different as I'd bought online rather than in store.
So I'm stuck with a TV of rubbish quality. Do I not have any rights in this situation?

Curry’s policy is that you can only return if unopened (if purchased in store).

Is the picture quality so poor that it’s faulty?

Cuddlemequick · 19/01/2022 16:00

Apparently it's not faulty it just has a blur to it, the manager even said he knew what I meant as he has the same TV.

Then it's not suitable for use?
Cuddlemequick · 19/01/2022 16:03

This is what I said. He said his hands are tied and there's nothing he can do as it's not technically faulty.

Go back and say its faulty.

Porfre · 19/01/2022 16:05

Did you buy with a credit card?

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 19/01/2022 16:05

Did you see the picture quality of the TV when you were in Currys?

Flocon · 19/01/2022 16:05

His hands aren't tied. He's just worried about his stores sales figures. Can you tweet them?

pansypotter123 · 19/01/2022 16:06

How blurry is blurry? Does it prevent you seeing the picture properly? If so it's faulty. What make is it? Post it here so we can see if this is a common fault/issue?

Cuddlemequick · 19/01/2022 16:07

I said it is faulty, he said he would run it through a machine that detects faults if I returned today.
I didn't pay by credit card. I didn't see the picture quality in currys.

Return it online I think you can get it picked up. The picture is blurry. It doesnt matter if " his TV " is the same. Personally I think that's a lie.

And if you cant get it returned complain as the item is not fit for purpose.

MorningStarling · 19/01/2022 16:10

You've probably already tried this but have you tried changing the picture settings? Modern TVs have various picture modes, film mode, sports mode, game mode and so on. If you watch something on the wrong mode it can mess up the picture, for example watching a football match on film mode the picture may seem jerky, and watching a 1940s film on the wrong mode might make it look like Eastenders.

Cuddlemequick · 19/01/2022 16:11

I can't return online because I bought in store.
Who do I complain to?
I'm particularly sore because I'm a single parent and I saved up for this and my kids were excited, and he was so dismissive and sent me away as if I can afford to go home with something that's not very good.

I had something similar once.

Bought a lawnmower from argos.
But it wouldn't cut the grass
So tried to return it. And they asked of it was faulty. Obviously it worked but dodnt cut my grass. So I stupidly said no.
And they said they couldn't return it cos I'd used it.

I promptly drove to the next argos a few miles away. And returned it. And when they asked if it was faulty- I said yes.

Cuddlemequick · 19/01/2022 16:12

I have played around with sound settings yes.
It's also not very responsive to the remote, which my kids will get frustrated with.
I don't want this TV!

I think there are a number of things you can do, first and foremost I would complain in writing to their head office, email is great as it’s fully recorded. The Twitter thing would be worth setting up purely to complain to be honest, a lot of people get quick results complaining by that means! If all else fails you can go even farther about it as it sounds not fit for purpose but I would imagine by going above the manager, you will be looked after. So annoying though.

Wexone · 19/01/2022 16:19

If its not fit for purpose then you are fully entitled to a repair replacement or refund under consumer law. Go back into the shop and stand your ground. Also write to the head office with a letter of complaint. Ring consumer advice aswell

Rodion · 19/01/2022 16:20

I'd try the returning to a different store thing. Don't say about the other manager, just explain there's something wrong with the screen as the picture isn't in focus and that the remote only works occasionally, despite new batteries (assuming you didn't use dud batteries!).

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 19/01/2022 16:21

Before you go extreme on somehting like a card chargeback, have a play with the TVs settings, most TV's now have different modes now for different content, and sometimes the default mode is utter crap.

Have a look for settings with names like Motion Blur or BFI(Black Frame Insertion) Motionflow etc.

Cuddlemequick · 19/01/2022 16:25

I will try another currys. On my receipt it says exchanged so they can see I've already taken one tv back.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 19/01/2022 16:25

I have played around with sound settings yes.

But the picture is blurry, so it's the picture/image settings you need to fiddle around with.

Cuddlemequick · 19/01/2022 16:27

I think that's what annoyed the manager, he said you can't just keep buying and exchanging tvs. Which I don't usually do, in fact I never buy anything new! This was meant to be a treat for us!
