To expect an exchange or refund?

I bought a new TV online from Currys, picked it up, sound was dreadful, took it back and exchanged it in store for another one that had good online reviews. Took that one home, picture quality is awful. Took it back in again to try one final exchange and was told I couldn't as goods have to be faulty to return, and the first time was different as I'd bought online rather than in store.
So I'm stuck with a TV of rubbish quality. Do I not have any rights in this situation?

Contact head office and raise hell.

@Wexone

If its not fit for purpose then you are fully entitled to a repair replacement or refund under consumer law. Go back into the shop and stand your ground. Also write to the head office with a letter of complaint. Ring consumer advice aswell
Although the retailer gets to chose if its a repair, replacement or refund

I meant picture settings not sound settings!

I think that's what annoyed the manager, he said you can't just keep buying and exchanging tvs. Which I don't usually do, in fact I never buy anything new! This was meant to be a treat for us!
How dare he? You can if they don't work.

I will try a different currys first and say it's faulty.

I came home and cried at the injustice of being dismissed by a youngster who will never understand how hard it is to save £200 as a single parent!

Not if the product is rejected within the first 30 days.

OP, contact Samsung product support. They'll go through various checks with you, and if they agree that it is faulty, they'll issue a return code for you to give to the retailer.

DGRossetti · 19/01/2022 16:39

Curry’s policy is that you can only return if unopened (if purchased in store).

I'd be much more interested in what consumer law says, to be honest.

Forrandomposts · 19/01/2022 16:45

OP given how hard it is to save that and what it treat it was for you, why on earth aren't you checking the tvs out before you buy them?!

Cuddlemequick · 19/01/2022 16:46

I was looking at online reviews. I've never bought a TV before so didn't even think about asking to view in store.

Lesson learned though

CorrBlimeyGG · 19/01/2022 16:48

It doesn't matter if you viewed it in store or not. The TV is not fit for purpose.

If you look at Amazon there are hundreds of reviews for this TV. They don't describe the problem you're having.

JeffThePilot · 19/01/2022 16:49

If they’ve got one in store on display and it looks the same, that’ll weaken your argument that it’s a fault.

Wexone · 19/01/2022 16:49

Yes the shop can decide to offer which one, she has got her replacement it still not working so they can now offer a repair or refund. please do not contact the manufacturer, your contract is with curry's they need to sort this for you.

JeffThePilot · 19/01/2022 16:50

So it might be worth going back to the store and having a look to compare.

Eskarina1 · 19/01/2022 16:52

You can ring the Trading Standards advice line, they'll tell you exactly where you stand and the words to use to make Currys behave.

They may have improved but Currys used to be notorious for trying to wriggle out of replacing faulty goods.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 19/01/2022 16:54

I have 7 Samsung Tvs, Samsung Washer, Samsung Fridge freezer, numerous Samsung phones and tablets in the house. I buy Samsung because they are good quality. If there is a problem with the screen then it really is faulty or you need to adjust the screen display settings.

Contact Currys customer support online, they are usually very helpful.

HasaDigaEebowai · 19/01/2022 17:00

Is it faulty though? Isn’t the op just saying the picture quality isn’t wonderful?

Evanesco · 19/01/2022 17:01

I'd ring the curry's customer support number / online chat if they have it, and if not I'd go to Samsung directly

positivevibesonly22 · 19/01/2022 17:02

Yep go back and say it's faulty. Say it randomly switches off. They're not going to test it in the shop.

positivevibesonly22 · 19/01/2022 17:03

I got a Samsung and returned it a couple of years ago. The picture quality was terrible. Any black element to the picture flickered. I will not have another Samsung now and they used to be good. Panasonic every time for me now. Had this last one a few years and it is superb.

Croissantly · 19/01/2022 17:05

@Cuddlemequick

It's a Samsung t4300.
I have that TV and the picture quality is excellent, if yours isn't then it sounds like it is faulty and their diagnostic test will pick up on this. Phone their customer service line, they are usually pretty good and sometimes have more flexibility than staff members in store.
Roselilly36 · 19/01/2022 17:13

That’s not great customer service, I know there are different legislation for items purchased online than in store, but if you didn’t get to see the tv working in store how would you know if it was suitable quality? The manager seems unreasonable to me, contact head office by phone hopefully they will sort it out for you.

Cuddlemequick · 19/01/2022 17:14

What's the best thing to say without lying? Is the flickering and blurring actually a fault?
