Sorry, I don’t know how to insert a link

How is this even possible in this day and age?

I’ve just seen someone say it in yet another thread - they post about something, someone asks for a link, and they come back with this response.

God knows I am no tech whizz, but how can an adult in 2022 not know how to copy a link and paste it into their post…? Confused

Do they think it is something way more complicated than copy and paste, and if so, why?

Agree, you see it all the time and what really gets me is that they literally have google right there in front of them so they could find out.

StoneofDestiny · 14/01/2022 18:32

You are not alone

RussiasGreatestLoveMachine · 14/01/2022 18:44

Is it actually just a cover for out and out laziness?

Because I don’t actually believe anyone is that stupid doesn’t know how to insert a link.

Well there's C+p and then there's hiding it behind text, which is not as straightforward.

RussiasGreatestLoveMachine · 14/01/2022 18:58

Agreed, but it always seems to be people saying they don’t even know how to post a link.

It wasn’t as always as easy as cutting and pasting. You used to have to put a symbol either side like when you bold something. I’m very technologically adept and I sometimes struggled. Maybe people are the same, maybe they don’t know it’s changed now. Stop being such a judgemental bore.

HalloHello · 14/01/2022 19:03

I actually think it's worse that people ask for a link rather than just googling it.

Someone started a thread asking for advice on making baby bottles of formula and someone mentioned perfect prep. The OP quoted the post and asked what perfect prep was 🤦why not just Google it??

PuppyMonkey · 14/01/2022 19:07

Wait… you no longer have to put the double bracket around the link?Shock

Hoardasurass · 14/01/2022 19:10

I can't post links on my phone. I know in theory how to do it just can't get it to work on my phone. I have no problem with it on my tablet or laptop and I know lots of people with the same problem so either we're all daft/lazy or links don't work on some phones

Mind blown. I’ve still been dutifully putting the [[ round every link.Grin

My, aren't you nice.

Who weed on your avocado, OP?

AlbertBridge · 14/01/2022 19:17

I've seen people mention "clicky links" - an you me know what they are? I got the impression they were refer all links, like MN would get money from them... but as I type that, it sounds like bollcks.

QuelleSuprise · 14/01/2022 19:18

Are you ok op? 🤣

Yes, I have too. Thought it was mandatory.
ODFOx · 14/01/2022 19:20

Please. I have no idea how to cut and paste on this phone. My children despise me for typing with my forefinger instead of my thumb. I can Google and screenshot things but I can't highlight or copy and paste text so no, I can't do links on my phone on the app.
I would Google how to do it if it mattered or I needed it for anything but Mumsnet.

RussiasGreatestLoveMachine · 14/01/2022 19:27

OK so there is an explanation as to why people think it is more complicated than it actually is.

OP posts:
LondonQueen · 14/01/2022 19:29

I think a lot of people are lazy rather than stupid.

ODFOx · 14/01/2022 19:33

And in the time it took me to type that with my forefinger someone appears and says I'm lazy and thick!
Nice.

RussiasGreatestLoveMachine · 14/01/2022 19:35

On my phone - click on link, click again, up comes a few options, including copy and cut.

Click into MN comment box and click again - option to paste.

Not really all that different from copy and paste on any other device.

I was going to put ‘lighthearted’ in the OP somewhere, but figured that was stating the obvious, so didn’t. Obviously that did need spelling out for some, though. Wink

YANBU. I can't fathom how ANYbody who uses the internet, and who uses this site regularly doesn't know how to insert a link. I don't buy it. In 2022, how can a single person over the age of 5 not know how to do this? Confused You LITERALLY copy and paste it from another tab.

If you can use a computer, and you can use the internet/websites, you can copy and paste a link into your message. FGS! Hmm

I think people pretend to be obtuse for attention.

@HalloHello

Someone started a thread asking for advice on making baby bottles of formula and someone mentioned perfect prep. The OP quoted the post and asked what perfect prep was 🤦why not just Google it.

This annoys me too. And like when their 'AIBU' thread is (for example) 'what hotels are in the Broad Street Area in Birmingham?' FGS google it! Hmm

Remember there are people in here who haven't spent their entire lives with computers. I was well into secondary school before they started IT or rather computer studies at school, and it was only available to 30 boys.

My first office job was on dial up, and others later didn't even have computers.

I left school in 1977. I never touched a computer until the early noughties, but I can manage a link.

Testing to see if C+P without works!
