To think January and February are weird months?

I've just gone to the supermarket and it's virtually empty, and it's got me thinking.

Does anyone else just find January and February weird?
Christmas and New Year is over so there's not much to look forward to for those who celebrate. The majority of people are skint, everywhere is so quiet, it's absolutely freezing and gets dark early. Idk I feel so bleh!

Am I the only one who finds it really eerie?

Yes definitely. I hate Jan and Feb. I start to feel happier in March, sometimes late Feb if it's nice weather which sometimes happens!

I hate dark evenings. I like evenings where it's light until nearly 10pm and summer mornings!

ThesecondLEM · 04/01/2022 19:35

It's shit. No money, dark evenings and bloody cold. It's all so meh I agree.

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 04/01/2022 19:36

Pre Covid we always used to go on holiday somewhere sunny in late January/early February was restorative and nice to have something to look forward to

FuzzyPuffling · 04/01/2022 19:38

I have a birthday in January. I hate it.

Everyone is really miserable and talks about it as you do...hence making it especially grotty for me.

SometimesMaybe · 04/01/2022 19:39

I think lots of people hate them but we have four birthdays (me, Dh and 2 DC) within 7 weeks so we spend a lot of time celebrating and doing fun days out at the weekends. They are quite expensive months though!

BooksAndGin · 04/01/2022 19:40

I hate them. It's depressing. Feel happier usually end of February/March time.

ashorterday · 04/01/2022 19:40

I hate it. Even worse this year because normally we would book a holiday to break up the monotony of it!

frazzledasarock · 04/01/2022 19:41

I have a birthday in January too, right before payday.

I once bonded with a BA air crew member over the birthday as hers was on the same day… she gave us an upgrade over it 😆😆😆

refraction · 04/01/2022 19:41

I don't mind Feb its a short month to pay fay and look forward to half term with the kids and mmm pancake day.

refraction · 04/01/2022 19:42

Pay day

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/01/2022 19:43

It’s improved a lot since my Ds was born in Feb as there’s a highlight at the end of it! (Some people would call it an expense but I’m a glass half full person!)

Also this year we’re going away for Feb half term as we seem to have got a different half term from many and got a good price! Just down to our local area as opposed to where we’re going (different U.K. nation) I think.

I think having something to look forward to really helps

That is brilliant!

My brother has a Jan birthday and so ive grown up with the knowledge that this sucks! (He didn’t used to shut up about it Grin )

Guacamole001 · 04/01/2022 19:46

This year we are going away end of May to Barcelona. It is giving me a focus. Unless there is another variant!

Twizbe · 04/01/2022 19:48

My son's birthday is this month and DH and daughter's is in Feb.

Mine is in March so this time of year is all celebration for us.

SaigonSaigon · 04/01/2022 19:53

I agree January is shite and one to get through but I'm ok with February. The evenings are noticeably lighter, pancakes, half term and a short month. Then it's March!

CovidCorvid · 04/01/2022 19:55

They’re the worst months. Was only thinking today how many weeks to the end of Feb, counting them down.

chaosrabbitland · 04/01/2022 19:56

yes its shit , january slightly more so than feb ,

edwinbear · 04/01/2022 19:57

I don't mind January. I don't like the bit in between Christmas and NY where I sit on the sofa, drinking wine, eating cheese and feeling my stomach pressing deeper into my waistband by the minute.

Once NYE is out of the way, I quite enjoy dry Jan, eating better and getting back to the gym. I feel sluggish during the party season, but (unsurprisingly), once I start my Jan health kick, I sleep better, look better and lose the Christmas pounds. Plus I save loads as there is nothing to do or buy, and nobody wants to go out. It's a hibernation period, before emerging out of my cocoon in the spring!

Tal45 · 04/01/2022 19:57

Jan and Feb are just shit. At least Feb is short though. March was awful last year but at least there's light at the end of the tunnel.

grooveonthemove · 04/01/2022 19:57

I don't understand January and February - more daylight but it's colder! I live abroad and we still have a winter here albeit shorter and milder than the UK (and most of Europe).

I'm closer to the equator and feel conned out of long, summer nights but at this time of year I appreciate early sunrises at 6.30am and luscious sunsets at 5pm.

stripyleopardsleep · 04/01/2022 19:59

I quite like January. I love autumn and Xmas but I find all the mental load quite overwhelming by the end of it so I find January quite calming and restorative. Little to no thinking or doing bar going to work and more fresh air, exercise and better eating.

I'm well aware I sound like a boring tit though.

And I get properly bored by February 🤣

chipshopElvis · 04/01/2022 19:59

Jan birthday here so I have something to look forward to! I like Feb, flowers are starting to appear, its nice and short, half term and everyone has usually stopped banging on about their diets by then!

Hugoslavia · 04/01/2022 20:05

Yes, it is a grotty depressing time of the year. I think there should be another festival at the end of January to look forward to. Something involving lots of colour and flowers.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/01/2022 20:21

I was in the supermarket too today and it was dead! Could be Covid related as well.

January and February are my most hated months.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/01/2022 20:21

Although this January is already a vast improvement on last January!
