To hope my DS eyes will stay blue?

I have blue eyes & DH brown eyes. Both of our other DC have my DHs lovely brown eyes. This is our third baby and he's 4 months old now & still has blue eyes. Don't get me wrong it doesn't matter but I'd love for him to have my eyes.
Every-time I get excited my MIL reminds me that they will change to brown 🙄
What are the chances that they'll turn brown?

If your husband has a recessive blue allele then he could have blue eyes.

SummaLuvin · 31/12/2021 18:21

confused, I don't understand what you might be unreasonable about here?

TheSnowyOwl · 31/12/2021 18:23

I have dark brown eyes, DH has blue eyes. All four of our children have blue eyes.

LadyCathdeBourgh · 31/12/2021 18:23

Neither DH or me have blue eyes but our first DC has. They also have blonde hair but we're both dark haired. So it is possible 🤞

PGSTesting123 · 31/12/2021 18:23

My comment isn't to you OP but your post has reminded me of something.

I'm Indian, I've met many other Indians that get really excited their child is going to have blue or grey eyesHmm

In the past most have been very upset when I tell them the eyes will most likely be brown and that all babies have blur to grey eyes for the first few weeks.
It never goes down well.
Depressing that their own traditional most likely eye colour disappoints them.

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 31/12/2021 18:26

I have blue eyes everyone in my biological family on mum and dad's side have blue eyes, so it would feel odd to be related to someone who didn't. DS has DHs exact face (it gets commented on a lot) but he has my blue eyes and he still has them at 3 so I don't think they're going anywhere! It's like my genetic link to him, he also has my curly blondish hair with a tinge of red but that might change as he gets older, DH has very dark hair and eyes but was blonder as a child.

sunflowerroses · 31/12/2021 18:27

How blue are they? My eldest's started to go brown at around 7 months but they were always a steel/darker blue colour. My youngest's were bright blue very early and I never thought they were likely to change and they didn't. They both have gorgeous eyes!

inheritancetrack · 31/12/2021 18:28

I have blue eyes, all my family have blue eyes on mum and dads side. Dh has hazel eyes, and all DC have the same colour. I am a bit upset all my sisters, nieces, nephews etc, have blue eyes and my kids are the only ones not to. I love my blue eyes, I think blue eyes are beautiful. Shallow I know but it's how I feel

KiloWhat · 31/12/2021 18:29

Yes YABU especially if it doesn't matter to you

rbdash · 31/12/2021 18:31

I have dark brown eyes, DH has brown eyes, DC was born with blue eyes and after about a year they changed to green and 3 years later they are still green. We are both dark haired but DC is blonde.

Xmasiscancelledagain · 31/12/2021 18:32

It's strange how it all works isn't it? I always assumed my kids would have my dark hair and dark eyes. DS1 is ginger with blue eyes and DS2 is blond with brown eyes. Both DS had brown eyes when they were born though.

Gertie75 · 31/12/2021 18:32

My Mum has brown eyes, my Dad had light blue/green and both my brother and I have dark green eyes.
I love brown eyes.

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 31/12/2021 18:34

My family all have blue eyes & blonde hair and DH family have brown eyes and black hair.

Dd has always had beautiful brown eyes, they are gorgeous! And dark brown hair.

DS was born with very blue eyes but now they are just starting to look a bit flecked with greeny-brown so overall look hazel. He was born blonde but now has brown hair too. He is 2 years & 7 months.

I do sometimes have a flicker of sadness that they are both the spitting image of DH and don’t resemble my side at all. But they are both so gorgeous that it passes very quickly

Bigfathairyones · 31/12/2021 18:35

I could work out pretty quickly which of my 3 were going to keep the blue. The one who's are now green just looked a bit 'off' blue and sure enough, they changed. The other two were blue at birth and then kept getting bluer in the first couple of months. Can you see a difference with your 3rd?

AuntyMabelandPippin · 31/12/2021 18:35

I have blue eyes, DH has brown. I have four DC. The oldest three all have brown/hazel eyes, which turned before they were three months old.

The youngest has my blue eyes. One out of four's not bad. Grin

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 31/12/2021 18:38

My youngest was born was her fathers gorgeous grey eyes and black hair.

She was blonde with brown eyes by her first birthday!

danyD29 · 31/12/2021 18:39

Thanks everyone. I guess it's just a waiting game. Just posted on here as my MIL makes me feel like the worst mother in the world when I get a little excited. Don't get me wrong he'll still be beautiful no matter the colour but there's just 1% of me wishing they'd stay blue.
My other 2 were born with brown eyes from day one & my baby has had dark blue eyes since birth. They look blue in the sunlight but blue greyish any other time

Dh has dark brown eyes, and jet black hair, I have dark blonde hair & blue eyes

1 x dc is a carbon copy of me blonde hair and big blue eyes

1 x dc is a carbon copy of dh dark brown eyes and dark hair.

It’s not always guaranteed that your baby eyes will change to brown. I’m sure I read somewhere if a babies eye colour doesn’t change by 6 months ish it says the same this may be utter rubbish tho

Policyschmolicy · 31/12/2021 18:40

I was expecting DC2 to have brown eyes like DH and DC1, but his eyes have stayed a blue/grey, so it’s possible.

FluffyPinkSocks · 31/12/2021 18:44

Both ds’s have hazel eyes, dd has dark brown, my 2 other dds were both blue but turned brown at about 2.5/3 years. Actually thought one had heterochromia as she had one blue eye and one brown eye for about 6 months but she’s brown now. Dh is dark brown and I’m blue eyed.

SazCat · 31/12/2021 18:45

My DD1 has brown eyes same as me, did from birth. DD2 is 8 months and still has her Dad's lovely bright blue eyes. I do hope they stay that way, it's kinda nice for one of them to each share our eye colour!

ShortColdandGrey · 31/12/2021 18:45

My DH has brown eyes and I have green eyes, both of us have brown hair. Our DD has blue eyes and blonde hair. I have been asked a few times if we are sure the hospital gave us the correct baby Grin

FruitToast · 31/12/2021 18:48

There is a chance they'll stay blue but you'll just have to see what happens. Eye colour is a complex inherited trait influenced by multiple genes and nowhere near as simple as Mendelian inheritance taught in GCSE biology!

Woeismethischristmas · 31/12/2021 18:50

My nephews eyes changed at over a year so lots of time for them to change but I have twins with blue eyes I have hazel and ex brown and assumed they would change but they never did.

I'd love one of my children to have brown eyes and both of our families are all blue eyes. I think it's just the appeal of something a bit different!
