To hope my DS eyes will stay blue?

I have blue eyes & DH brown eyes. Both of our other DC have my DHs lovely brown eyes. This is our third baby and he's 4 months old now & still has blue eyes. Don't get me wrong it doesn't matter but I'd love for him to have my eyes.
Every-time I get excited my MIL reminds me that they will change to brown 🙄
What are the chances that they'll turn brown?

I have green eyes, DH has grey blue eyes.

DS1 has dark deep brown eyes and DS2 has bright blue eyes

Neither of them look like me haha

foxgoosefinch · 31/12/2021 18:54

DD was born with blue eyes - mine are blue and her father’s are brown, like all his family’s. A few years later DD’s have changed to a really startling green! I have relatives with green eyes so I guess there’s genetic precedent on my side. The colour change was gradual though, between the ages of about 3-6.

rainyskylight · 31/12/2021 18:54

If the eyes haven’t changed at all yet and your partner has a recessive gene then they will likely stay blue.

All my family have blue eyes, both sides. DH has brown, but his mum has blue. By three months I firmly believed they would stay blue as they hadn’t changed a bit. She’s 13mo now and still as blue as when she was born.

Hesma · 31/12/2021 18:56

I have blue eyes, exh has brown eyes. Our 2DDs have green eyes and blue eyes

WakeUpLockie · 31/12/2021 18:56

Blue’s the most common in this country isn’t it? I and both my kids have blue. Nephew has the most amazing dark brown. All beautiful!

Snorkmaidenn · 31/12/2021 18:57

I have hazel eyes and my husband had bright blue eyes.
I had 4 children, all born with navy blue eyes.
Their eyes all turned brown around 2 years of age.
If your baby's eyes are similar to your other children's, then you can probably be sure they will change also. Flowers

LondonQueen · 31/12/2021 18:58

My DS is the only one in the family (other than me) to have blue eyes, they're beautiful 😍

WhiteCatmas · 31/12/2021 18:59

OP, do either of your DH’s parents have blue eyes? If so then it’s possible your child will have blue eyes. Otherwise it’s unlikely.

DramaAlpaca · 31/12/2021 19:01

I have hazel eyes, but I think I must carry the recessive gene for blue eyes because all four of my grandparents had blue eyes.

DH's are green, but again there are blue eyes in his family.

So I was surprised when DS1 had blue eyes, and actually really pleased as I was hoping they'd stay blue. They darkened a little after six months and settled down as grey/blue with a gold centre.

DS2's eyes are a curious and very beautiful mix of brown, blue and gold.

DS3 has eyes like DS1 but more blue/grey than grey/blue.

Some of their cousins have a parent with blue eyes, but of all the cousins in both sides of the family my two, who don't have a blue eyed parent, are the only ones who've inherited blue eyes. Which just goes to show how complicated the genetics of eye colour are.

Yes. His dads eyes are blue

I have dark brown eyes, husband has blue eyes, DS1 is blue eyed and DS2 brown eyed. It’s pot luck depending on your genes.

Mangofandangoo · 31/12/2021 19:08

My DH has blue eyes like his dad, his mums are dark brown

Twizbe · 31/12/2021 19:09

I have blue eyes and DH has brown, both our kids have my blue eyes. I honestly didn't think it was possible but there they are. Oldest is almost 5 and youngest almost 3, my guess is that they will stay this way now.

CaptainPovey · 31/12/2021 19:18

My mum had blue eyes, my dad had hazel eyes, my siblings have/had brown eyes

I have green eyes

Disneyvillain · 31/12/2021 19:23

If your DH has blue eyes in his family then possibly yes. I have grey-blue, DH has dark brown but his dad had blue. DD’s eyes were also blue for about 8 years then changed to green.

dailingping · 31/12/2021 19:30

Dint they'll change now. They'll probably stay blue? My daughters eyes changed within weeks

dailingping · 31/12/2021 19:30

Doubt*

ForPingsSake · 31/12/2021 19:35

DH and I both have blue eyes but 2/3 of our children have hazel eyes! They didn't change until they were 6 or 7 years old. I was really surprised but evidently, it is possible. The genetics of eye colour is far more complex than we are led to believe in school science lessons.

ottermadness · 31/12/2021 19:50

My DDs stayed blue. Dad brown, mum Hazel.

OnlyAFleshWound · 31/12/2021 19:55

@inheritancetrack

I have blue eyes, all my family have blue eyes on mum and dads side. Dh has hazel eyes, and all DC have the same colour. I am a bit upset all my sisters, nieces, nephews etc, have blue eyes and my kids are the only ones not to. I love my blue eyes, I think blue eyes are beautiful. Shallow I know but it's how I feel
This is grim and depressing. W
OnlyAFleshWound · 31/12/2021 19:55

What a horrible way to think about your own children

BiscuitLover3678 · 31/12/2021 19:57

As a brown eyed person, these comments used to really upset me when I was a child. Yes variety is interesting but honestly I know find dark eyes gorgeous. Blue eyes have become quite common ;)

BiscuitLover3678 · 31/12/2021 19:59

I remember seeing a thread on here maybe a year or so ago about this. The poster was very annoyed because blue eyes were constantly seen as beautiful and preferred. So grim. Such horrible standards of beauty.

AthenaPopodopolous · 31/12/2021 20:00

I think it’s likely his eyes will stay blue now.

HerculesMulligan · 31/12/2021 20:02

I also have brown hair and blue eyes, OP, and so does my 2.5yo daughter, even though DH and DS have brown eyes.
