Next sale … is it worth it?

Brighton5555 · 26/12/2021 17:54

Looked online and not that great but many years ago I lined up in a car park at 4am and it was worth it for the next sale …

Am looking to buy quite a lot of kids clothes and one is on near my home at 6am tomorrow… for the regular next shoppers these days is it worth getting up and going or not ? Thanks

I did my Next Sale shopping on line last Tuesday, there wasn't particularly loads then and I wouldn't be getting out of bed at that time to go shopping for things that may not even be available!

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2021 18:02

The last time I went in store to the Next sale (not at 4am I CBA with that) there were a couple of women (customers) with bin liners, just scooping up anything and everything and buying it. Confused
The place looked like a jumble sale and there was stuff that I'd never seen before.

I do like Next but I prefer to browse online and if it's in the sale, bonus.

DeepaBeesKit · 26/12/2021 18:05

I worked (via an agency) for a warehouse years ago tagging clothes for next sale.

Loads of it is essentially produced for the sale. Deliberately low cost etc, stocked in a handful of branches at an inflated "RRP" then piled high for the sale.

Bananarama21 · 26/12/2021 18:09

It's complete tat also ethically immoral company that force staff to mark up sale items latr christmas eve and cut their Christmas day short so shoppers would wait at daft o'clock for a cheap bargain. Atleast they had the sense to close for today.

StoneofDestiny · 26/12/2021 18:13

Not a chance I'd ever queue up at 4 am for anything. The Next sale has been on line for days anyway!

It's the staff that suffer in the end.

purpledagger · 26/12/2021 18:19

I haven't been for years now, but I used to go when my children were pre-schoolers, as I liked the clothes and they lasted well for us.

In my part of the UK, the weather is pretty mild and there is no forecast of rain, so I'd go, as it I didn't find it a hardship to get up that early. My children are tweens now and they don't have much in the sale in their sizes, so I don't bother.

Deepabeeskit I thought it was the case that some clothes were made for the sale. I remember seeing some clothes in the sale that just didn't look like Next and I'd never seen them in store.

RandomDent · 26/12/2021 18:20

The Next sale is an absolute triumph of marketing over substance. It’s just a sale of old (or not so old, as @DeepaBeesKit has said) stock, as is every sale. But they create a buzz by the 4am starts and “VIP online access”, making it seem like it’s in demand.

MiniCooperLover · 26/12/2021 18:22

No, it's all the shit they haven't sold through the earlier part of the year

ellie21 · 26/12/2021 18:22

The VIP sale last week was terrible. Loads of Summer stuff noone wanted then, let alone now.

MrsDThomas · 26/12/2021 18:23

Next sale is full of the shite people don’t buy during the year. It doesn’t make it anymore appealing giving it away at half price.

pluggee · 26/12/2021 18:26

I went once with an Aunt when I was about 15 in the 90s, that put me off for life!

pluggee · 26/12/2021 18:27

It was rammed, hot, noisy & I wouldn't want any of it for free so can't imagine it's changed much.

CorrBlimeyGG · 26/12/2021 18:30

I wouldn't go to a store sale. Most of the decent stuff will have gone in the VIP sale last week. I got a few branded bits at very good discounts.

(VIP is everyone who has a credit account, so not VIP at all.)

lololololollll · 26/12/2021 18:31

Good god, no

Roselilly36 · 26/12/2021 18:35

I wouldn’t bother with it personally, many years ago I went and thought the sale items were not what I had seen in store, I think they just buy in so called sale items.

Nat6999 · 26/12/2021 18:38

I've bought loads in Next sales over the years, curtains & bedding are my favourites, I have bought several sets for ds when he was younger, the best were digger & tractor duvet cover & curtains, I paid maybe £10 for each set. I got some premium curtains for my bedroom for less than £20. I always saved enough money for the summer sale as it was usually before we went on holiday so I could buy most of my holiday clothes in the sale.

feelsobadfeltsogood · 26/12/2021 18:38

Not a chance would I be going it's absolute junk and it's so cheap anyway it's hardly designer stuff barely worth it

DockOTheBay · 26/12/2021 18:39

I only use the online store to buy frugi as I find its actually decent quality and the sale prices are reasonable. I wouldn't bother with next clothes otherwise. They don't stock frugi in store, only online, so I wouldn't bother going to the store sale.

AngelinaFibres · 26/12/2021 18:41

When I was skint I used to look forward to sales like Next after Christmas. Used to look at things they had before Christmas so I could try to get them in the sale. Always seemed to be stuff I had never seen before.Havent bothered for years. Would certainly never queue up in the early hours to get in.

bigbluebus · 26/12/2021 18:45

@Bananarama21 I don't think "sense" had anything to do with it. I strongly suspect that the Sunday trading laws meant that they couldn't open long enough to make it worth their while so instead they spouted the 'staying closed to give our staff a longer break as they've all worked so hard in the last 12 months' line. It will have been a purely commercial decision.
TurquoiseDress · 26/12/2021 18:46

There is quite frankly nothing that would get me out of bed and in a queue at 6am on Boxing Day

Certainly not the Next sale!

Maybe it was good over a decade or so ago? (that's the last time I recall buying anything from there!)

TurquoiseDress · 26/12/2021 18:47

Ok I'm now tempted to look at the Next website to check out what I've been missing!

ChrissyPlummer · 26/12/2021 18:50

God no! It’s not even that expensive in the first place. I remember the Harrods sale when I was little, people used to queue for that and it was probably worth it. But a £100 coat reduced to £40? I’ve no idea how they convinced folk to start queuing at that time in the morning.

Name99 · 26/12/2021 18:52

I buy maybe 1 or 2 items from next a year, no credit account and they spam me with messages about my VIP slot, so no you don't need a credit account
Years ago it used to be half decent but next in general has gone downhill anyway

PinkiOcelot · 26/12/2021 18:52

Next sale is normally full of shitty stuff that they drag out for the sale. Definitely not worth getting out of bed at stupid o’clock for.
