Next sale … is it worth it?

Looked online and not that great but many years ago I lined up in a car park at 4am and it was worth it for the next sale …

Am looking to buy quite a lot of kids clothes and one is on near my home at 6am tomorrow… for the regular next shoppers these days is it worth getting up and going or not ? Thanks

I wandered in today as I just wanted out of the house I forgot the sale was a thing. It was pretty empty of people and I bought a bag as a birthday gift half price. The shop was pretty empty though.

Confiscatedpopit · 26/12/2021 18:54

I always remember at our local Burtons (worked there very briefly) they had rails and rails of stuff in the back room (from burtons, Dorothy Perkins and top shop) that they wheeled out every January in each respective store. Looked ancient. Put me off sales a bit after that.

Alyssasbackrolls · 26/12/2021 18:57

I've not seen anything I must have on Next on a decade or more so no point trying to get owt for a few quid off when it's overpriced and bland to start with.

It's a shame as I would in the past click on for a naice top or something a bit ritzy for the kids.

Thewiseoneincognito · 26/12/2021 18:58

The NEXT sale is basically Primark quality clothes with NEXT RRP prices and labels at 50% discount. Truly don’t waste your time, it’s absolute garbage, you only have to see the types scouring the jumble sale style rails to realise it’s just trash.

EmmaWoodhousestreehouse · 26/12/2021 18:58

@TurquoiseDress

Ok I'm now tempted to look at the Next website to check out what I've been missing!
You’ve missed nothing. It’s absolute tat.
Alyssasbackrolls · 26/12/2021 19:02

And yes they totally bring out the store room that for the sale. No shortages of those tops with the open shoulders I imagine...

Sometimes123 · 26/12/2021 19:27

When I was a teenager (over 20 years ago) next had a really good reputation for quality and it used to be a brand you were proud to wear....its just cheap tat now. More expensive than primark, but the quality on par...or sometimes not as good! Been going downhill steadily for years!

Really? Next did a big announcement there would be no famous Boxing Day in store sale today

Absolute pot luck as to whether it's worth it or not each time. So you never know til you get there!!

rooarsome · 26/12/2021 19:43

I think they were open in Scotland and ROI today.
I've been disappointed the last few years. Online it looks like dull summer wear as well for the children, so will give it a miss

ToykotoLosAngeles · 26/12/2021 19:44

@bigbluebus Absolutely! Couple of the supermarkets making a big deal about not opening when really it was just because they couldn't do 9-7 or whatever they usually do.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 26/12/2021 20:08

I personally don’t understand why anyone would be at the shops at 6am unless it was ridiculously cheap guaranteed bargain that I wanted but not for so called half price rubbish. I’ve in the past had the odd nice thing from next and I’ve done the vip sale but even then sold out . I didn’t even bother reserving my online slot this year not worth it imo .

Starcaller · 26/12/2021 20:13

I looked at the 'VIP' sale and it was utter dross. Literally nothing I wanted to wear or that I would buy for DD.

Starcaller · 26/12/2021 20:14

And I don't have a credit account, just buy from them 5/6 times a year, and that apparently qualified me for it.

Olliesocks · 26/12/2021 20:20

How do you buy from them without a credit account?
Starcaller · 26/12/2021 20:24

You just pay normally via debit card or whatever.

Olliesocks · 26/12/2021 20:25

@Starcaller

I cant see where to do that? It just keeps saying I must sign up for one so I don’t bother.
Starcaller · 26/12/2021 20:28

Just on the checkout page there's an option to pay via card. I think it's under the credit option they try to push. I'm on my phone so not sure it'll look the same as on laptop etc.

HunterGatherer · 26/12/2021 20:31

Not a chance. I hate next. Boden had some nice kids bits though.

KeyLimePies · 26/12/2021 20:59

VIP is everyone who has a credit account, so not VIP at all.

I get VIP slots and I don’t have a credit account with them either. I don’t even buy much from them online.

The VIP slot is worthless anyway, there’s nothing I’ve wanted to buy in the last 4 years of Next sales. The In-store sale where I am also has gangs of people stuffing kids clothes into sacks as another OP pointed out. I think they sell them on.

TBH, I hate sales now and actively avoid them. I find rail after rail of sales clothes everywhere a bit depressing for some reason, probably cos I’m an old misery guts now Grin

Salamander76 · 26/12/2021 21:09

I have never - and will never - understand why people do this. Next is absolute shite.

Also, of all the things for which I'd risk catching covid, a 6am scrum at a crap high street shop is pretty near the bottom of the list!

Underthestairsbears · 26/12/2021 21:13

I used to buy lots of kids clothes, so can see why it's appealing. I don't think it's actually worth getting up for that early anymore. I think you'd probably be fine to go a bit later.

I'm no snob when it comes to clothes and you can get beautiful kids clothes at half price so it really was a no brainer for me when the kids were younger.

As for the VIP sale I must have had an ok slot because I got DS some nice branded t shirts and jeans and jumpers for me and DH. It only seems to look like summer stuff when all this season's stuff has been sold.

Softpebbles · 26/12/2021 21:15

I think regardless of the sale, trying to get what you want in the right size in next is near on impossible lately!

On that basis I certainly wouldn’t get up for the sale.

Cosywosy · 26/12/2021 21:23

I like it for toddler clothes and homeware particularly bedding that I wouldn't pay full price for.

I only buy online in the Next sale, wouldn't bother with the effort of going to a store.

londonrach · 26/12/2021 21:26

Haven't bothered for years with next sale
