Just to remind you that alternative narratives are possible and the smallest acts of personal change are revolutionary. This is from the great feminist cartoonist Jacky Fleming. www.jackyfleming.co.uk/

The smallest acts of personal change are revolutionary.

Thanks for that; it's just what I needed to read. I think I'm going to use that sentiment as my motto for next year.

heldinadream · 26/12/2021 08:23

Cheers ohfook have a good year and I wish you courage in those small acts. And bigger ones if you like!

Grin I like that
Apocalyptichorsewoman · 26/12/2021 08:37

I love her cartoons!

Holly60 · 26/12/2021 08:38

Something about this makes me feel uncomfortable. It doesn’t feel very feminist. Why does the fact that she couldn’t be bothered to cook mean there is no food? Why is it assumed it was her responsibility? Why is she wearing ‘sexy’ clothes?

It’s like we are laughing at the unconventional woman. ‘Look how out there she is! She couldn’t be bothered to cook AND she is dressed sexily! Can you IMAGINE?!’

Lime37 · 26/12/2021 08:40

I don’t get it. Why would she host and then not be bothered. It dosnt feel feminist. It feels rude

FrancescaContini · 26/12/2021 08:45

Well, it made me Grin

It’s feminist because the expectation was the woman should do all the cooking, and if she doesn’t then nobody else will get off their arses and do it.
Mybalconyiscracking · 26/12/2021 08:47

My DH cooked everything, I was all set to prep the veg and he’d already done it. Quietly and without fuss!

Peas252 · 26/12/2021 08:53

It looks like a single woman has invited 2 couples for a meal, and then not cooked. It's not revolutionary or feminist, it's ridiculous.

slashlover · 26/12/2021 08:58

But half of the people sitting at the table are women.

Porcupineintherough · 26/12/2021 09:05

Why would you invite people to dinner and not cook? Surely the revolutionary thing to do would be not to invite them at all?

Yeah, I like a lot of her work but this one doesnt do it for me. It would make more sense if she was saying that to her husband and children.

limitedperiodonly · 26/12/2021 09:12

Has she got any better ones?

inheritancetrack · 26/12/2021 09:16

That's me this year!

Agreed.
IsolaPribby · 26/12/2021 09:18

It's just not funny 😐

araiwa · 26/12/2021 09:18

Are all feminist cartoons this witty?

It's fucking awful in so many ways

Philandbill · 26/12/2021 09:19

Thank you @heldinadream I have been amused by her work since I was a student. Her birth cartoons are very funny.

MsWalterMitty · 26/12/2021 09:22

More than half the people in the card are women! I agree with others… it’s nothing to do with feminism

Bettysnow · 26/12/2021 10:08

Im of the mindset that if you don't want to do something then don't do it and if you do then do it.
If i couldn't be bothered cooking they would have known about it long before they were sat at a dinner table.
Not sure i understand why the woman left it so late to say anything? I mean why take a stand at the last minute? She should have made herself clear at the outset if she believed anyone was assuming she was chief cook

RonniePickering · 26/12/2021 10:18

It's a bit shit.

Polkadotties · 26/12/2021 10:22

Not funny.

FrancescaContini · 26/12/2021 10:24

@RonniePickering

It's a bit shit.
Are you able to articulate why?
ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 26/12/2021 10:26

It would have been obvious to the guests that nothing was cooking long before they sat down at the table.

oopsyoudiditagain · 26/12/2021 10:27

I laughed!

I also love this quote👆🏼
It’s so true!
