Dashed about yesterday doing the Christmas shopping and bought these by accident. I don't often drink but when I do I want a proper G&T!! So hard to tell the difference unless you're looking for it so now it's a dry Christmas for me Sad

OP posts:

Who are these people who say it was obvious? These people, tell the truth, for every item you put in your weekly shop, do you read the whole label? Or do you spot the item by its familiar packaging and throw it in the trolley?

Thought so.

MorningStarling · 25/12/2021 12:36

YANBU to be pissed off by this. Alcohol-free drinks should not be in the same aisle as the proper alcoholic versions. One, it's confusing, two, it forces recovering alcoholics to venture down the booze aisle to get their substitute drink.

It's frustrating the manufacturers try to trick people with the labelling. I've not fucked up with alcohol-free shite yet, but have inadvertently bought low fat cheese and Coke Zero instead of the real stuff.

Oblomov21 · 25/12/2021 12:54

"How on earth did you miss that?"

I think the opposite. I think it's really poor labelling. So like the original, too close to the original, I think it could be very very easy to pick up the wrong one.

But it's a completely different label.

You don't have to scrutinize the small print to spot that it's different to ordinary Gordon's.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 25/12/2021 12:58

Oh the horror!!!!

Tittyfilarious81 · 25/12/2021 12:59

Xmas Shock I didn't even know you could get alcohol free gin Blush

Of course I check what I'm buying. I never want low fat or sugar free so read what I'm picking up. I check yogurts, jams etc. Other goods I may not be so particular about so wouldnt look to closely.
I couldn't give 2 hoots if I oocked up alcohol free gin. In fact I was impressed with the alcohol free range in Morrisons when I went in this week.

ThinWomansBrain · 25/12/2021 13:01

add some high alcohol hand sanitizer? Xmas Grin

Haveyoubrushedyourteethtoday · 25/12/2021 13:03

Well it should be in the cordial aisle then! Yanbu!,,

icedcoffees · 25/12/2021 13:03

Hmm, it is pretty obvious it's alcohol free by the label.

But I would go out to the corner shop/petrol station if its' open and buy some proper stuff Grin

BringBackThinEyebrows · 25/12/2021 13:05

Easy mistake to make. I don't carefully check labels of products when I believe I've picked up an item that I'm already familiar with.

PartyPrawnRingGames · 25/12/2021 13:05

Lol at alcohol free gin and P. Not Grigio. I feel like it goes with a Tofurkey dinner and some sugar free chocolate truffles for a very middling Christmas party. At least you won't have a hangover on Boxing day Xmas Grin

FitAt50 · 25/12/2021 13:06

We almost did the same and thought they were on special offer 😂

MajesticWhine · 25/12/2021 13:10

That is a fucking disaster.
I would be straight onto Deliveroo or Getir

OliveHenry · 25/12/2021 13:14

I've tried it. Doesn't taste much like gin at all to me, just weirdly synthetic. Would rather have just the tonic!

Cheerbear24 · 25/12/2021 13:18

Oh dear, 2 bottles as well Xmas Sad !!
It is pretty obvious though (runs and hides)

AKAanothername · 25/12/2021 13:28

Have you got any vodka? If so, add a measure of vodka to the fake gin and it might just be ok.

Notjustanymum · 25/12/2021 14:35

It’s the best non-alcoholic gin there is, OP. Try it with ice, tonic and a slice of lemon and it’s great - the only thing missing is the hangover!

RedToothBrush · 25/12/2021 15:30

Going to say something controversial.

I quite like alcohol free gin...

notacooldad · 25/12/2021 15:32

Nothing controversial about that. I cant get over the dramatic posts just because it's an alcohol free drink. I'd just shrug and have it with my tonic anyway. No big deal for me.

Faretheewellmyfairyfay · 25/12/2021 15:45

Poor you. It's very easy to see the shape and colour of the bottle and not notice the writing.

WeAllHaveWings · 25/12/2021 17:12

Not sure what else they could have done and still keep the branding, it is different enough to notice it is not the normal bottle - silver cap and blue instead of white and black, blue strip and labels instead of normal black and a HUGE 0% label at the front . What else do you want them to do to it?

TonTonMacoute · 25/12/2021 17:44

@NumaNumaYay

YANBU - there should be a hyphen in 'alcohol-free' otherwise it is saying the alcohol is free.

The 0.0% does sort of imply there's no alcohol, though.... Grin

Wrong!

It only has a hyphen if it comes before the noun.

Oh no, the gin I have bought is alcohol free.

I have bought alcohol-free gin by mistake.

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 25/12/2021 18:08

They've put a massive great sparkly badge on thr front with 0.0% and Alcohol Free. Not sure what more could they have done to draw your attention to the fact it was no alcohol 🤔

No booze at Christmas is very sad but I don't think you can blame anyone else.

FedUp79 · 25/12/2021 18:09

I can relate to this - bought some AF IPA a month or so ago. Totally pointless.
